Last night's #21dsd potluck dinner! Pictures are always an afterthought ( I'm working on it!). Last night was my in-person person session 2 for my September detox group! We had a feast! . Plus it was good to hear about all their successes so far!! Only one more week to go ladies!
Brilliant post from @staraniseorganic - I've found myself explaining this concept a few times lately.
The simplest analogy I have heard for this is - 'Genetics loads the gun and environmental factors pull the trigger' - meaning that trigger need never be pulled on certain conditions deemed 'genetic' if those environmental factors are controlled. She is 100% correct, it is so empowering once you fully realise it.

Modern science tells us that the genes we inherent from our parents only account for a very small fraction of our health, and our health is largely influenced by a number of different lifestyle or environmental factors. Certainly we are all born with a health "bank account" of varying degrees (some of us more ahead of the 8 ball than others) but whether that health bank account increases or decreases over our lifetime is directly proportional to our investment or expenditure of it via lifestyle factors like nutrition, hydration, sleep, movement, breath, stress management, time spent in nature and connecting with others. These factors switch our genes on or off for better or for worse. They determine how tall, robust from illness, intelligent, and beautiful we become. When we consistently invest in these foundations of health, our health bank account soars like a profitable investment. When we make bad investment decisions on a daily basis, the bank account dwindles. And I went into the red in my 20s hitting rock bottom with a spectacular crash. The point is, we are in the drivers seat. We have, to a large degree, control over these environmental factors and hence control over our overall health (which we then pass onto our offspring). It's always a choice we make. We can maximise nutrient-density, we can minimise dietary and environmental toxins, we can decide to a large degree how much sleep, movement and exposure to sunshine we get, and we can learn techniques to manage our stress. That, to me, is a truly empowering notion.
#Whole30#SeptemberWhole30 Day23-Soup In A Jar using guidelines found on @whole30 IG a few days ago using @vitalproteins Bone Broth Collagen chicken flavor along with some 🍄, zoodles, green onions, red bell pepper, spinach and leftover roast, @primalpalate Adobo Seasoning for flavor along with some @tinstarfoods Cultured Ghee for flavor and healthy fat to aid in absorbing all the great vitamins and minerals 👍🏻
Lunch today!! Chicken salad (modified from the salmon salad recipe from the @21daysugardetox Guidebook) with @jilzcrackerz and a few apple slices. For the detox, we serve the salad on the apple slices but for #lifeafterthe21dsd I use Jilz crackers! What are you having for lunch 🍴?
Farmer's Market finds today! The mason jar is full of dry organic soup ingredients. How cool is that? Makes me want to make some jars of dry soup mix to have on hand for Fall! I've been looking forward to this Labneh and Hummus since last year. The Labneh on a cracker or pita with sliced cucumber and green olives is 👌 Definitely going to try to recreate these before next year! .
Simple lunch today with so many grill marks 😍 salmon + zucchini + roasted carrots + @silverfernbrand probiotics 👉🏼 I've tried all kinds of probiotics and so many different ways to improve my gut health, and I swear by this brand because they 100% guarantee the bacteria will actually make it to your gut 🙌🏼 hope everyone is having a great Saturday! #iChooseToBeWell
I love the colors and the fun attitude of macarons... they're so temperamental yet SO rewarding! These are vanilla (purple), mint chocolate chip (green), strawberry cheesecake (pink), strawberry (coral), mango (orange) and coffee (purple-brown)💋 #frenchmacarons#macgamestrong#wedding#pastrychef#macarons @seanguay @goodfriendevents
If you're new around here, you might not know that I L O V E sardines 🐟
They are a nutrient dense POWERHOUSE 👊
Here's the deal, you can't knock 'em until you try the beginner's recipe on my blog.
Today I have my sardines (recipe above) paired with my latest obsessions:
🍴 Simple Mills Rosemary Crackers
🍴Organic Girl Greens
🐟A lunch filled with Omega-3s, naturally occurring b-vitamins, and minerals (oh, my!) 🐟
Have you tried sardines yet?
We're going into the last week of the month which for me always means the end of the food budget and using up what I already have in the kitchen. We are needing some snacks this week so I threw together a very random collection of ingredients for these energy bites. I didn't measure anything but used the following ingredients: natural almond butter, dates, craisins, bone broth protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, chocolate chips, oatmeal, pecans, pepitas, pumpkin spice, dash of salt. Mix. Roll in hemp seeds. They are very filling!
We had a pool party to attend today so I tried to load us up on nutrient dense food as best I could. This way my kids still eat pizza and cake but they eat waaaaay less. Hope you are having a great Saturday. We are going to watch a movie after all that sun.
New FREE webinar coming this Thursday!! 🎉 .
Robby (@mindfuldiabeticrobby), Cyrus (@mangomannutrition), and Tara (@tarakemp_) will be explaining why low-carb diets bring great results BUT ALSO big risks, too 🙀 .
Is it worth it? What if there was a way to get the same results, but with NO risk... This option exists, and we can't wait to tell you all about it.

I look really excited about this sandwich don't I? The wife and I are out and about today but stopped by @wholefoods for a #gfcf lunch on the road. It's almost #paleo but I wanted the bread this time. Only 1 slice though 😁 @sietefoods Lime flavored chips washed down with a @zevia Yum yum. It's actually a really tasty lunch.
I promised I would post where I source some of my food to keep prices down as much as possible. Here are 3 of the places I shop.
. 🐂 US Wellness Meats
🍽 Thrive Market
🍓 Farmers' Markets
US Wellness Meats sources their meat from farm families that raise their animals on grass. They are free of all pesticides, hormones and antibiotics and are treated humanely. Their customer service is excellent and their prices are about 15 - 20% cheaper than what I can get for meat of the same quality here in Atlanta.
Thrive Market is an online service that sells grocery, health, home, pets and beauty products. You can sign up for a free 30 day trial membership, after that it's $59.95 for the year. I saved that in the first 2 months.
Farmers' Markets! You all know the joys of going to a farmers' market on a sunny Saturday morning! This is a great place to pick up your produce for the next several days. Just be careful not to overbuy (it's easy to get carried away) and only purchase what you'll use!
Sandy @uncommonlygoodhealth. Healthy eating!
Enjoying one of the last Saturday farmers market bounties! And the best part is I've been tolerating these beautiful green tomatoes! Sad to see this summer produce go but look at all of this beautiful color God created to feed and nourish and heal our bodies!
Listening + Lunching! And you find yourself eating 3 of the healing, anti-inflammatory, detoxifying foods discussed in the @ultimatehealthpodcast with @juliedaniluk: broccoli sprouts, bone broth, and turmeric 👌
Lunch is @bonafideprovisions drinkable veggie bone broth blend with a slice of grain free bread slathered in @fourthandheart ghee, with a @farmhouseculture sauerkraut + avo salad.
Happy Saturday and happy Fall!
What are your favorite fall traditions or foods?
These are a must for cold and flu season... I always make a batch to have on hand, and the are super easy to make!
¼ cup Organic lemon juice
1 tbsp Organic Turmeric power
¼ tsp organic flaxseed oil or coconut oil
2 inch piece ginger root (or 2 tsp of fresh ginger juice)
pinch of cracked black pepper
¼ apple juiced (optional, if the ginger taste is too strong for you)
Place ginger root (and apple if you’re using) through a juicer (unless you are using ginger juice) and add all ingredients in a shaker or mason jar, close lid and shake hard for 10 seconds. Makes approximately 2-3 shots – I put them in shot jars, they are great for on the go.
When comp weekend rolls around and the countdown starts to when I can eat gummies again! These babies are going to be my post-stage indulgence: almond butter brownie gummy. 🍫
Lots if you have asked how I'm feeling now peak week is here. Well here it is. I'm so grateful and excited to be where I am. I feel like I've achieved so much but if you know me well- you know that I want to keep striving and pushing for more. So while I think I should take a moment to actually enjoy the moment... I'm pumped to keep going and achieve more... just like I've dreamed about. Where ever you are, breathe and take solace in what you are here in this moment. 🎀✌🏼

One day I randomly decided to toss my spaghetti squash remains over the side of my deck, and so far, this is what happened. Apparently I'm a much better haphazard and impromptu gardener than when I actually try to plant something and it never grows. 😂 #nature#garden#greenthumb
