I usually don’t post mid-restoration photos, but these solid rosewood Model 78’s by Niels Otto Møller are too fucking amazing not to share. The rosewood was completely stripped with only steel wool to preserve the original lines. Then the frames received multiple coats of UV protectant to prevent sun fading and color loss. Next stop for these quadruplets is the upholstery shop where they’ll be wrapped in black leather.
Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great evening and relaxing day! We are open 11am-6pm Tuesday-Saturday this week and will be closed on Sunday for a family that we didn't get to see over the holiday. We will have several newly restored pieces hitting the shop floor each day so be sure to stop in!
Frames polished next stop the upholsterers for some new leather seats (it needs to be done) unless you get in quick, you can choose a leather or fabric to suit you. Contact us for more information. Set of six very early production Niels Møller Model 78 Brazilian Rosewood chairs. This is a very nice set in excellent condition.
But my second favourite piece [second only to a desk created for his own apprenticeship final project] that is a dining chair that my dad had designed in 1954, and that was the 78-chair, that chair, is standing around the world in 24 different museums, and also Great Dane. As soon as I came in, it was in the entrance, there were 8 of them in black...” Jørgen Møller on his favourite pieces. ALL IN THE FAMILY “Our company history is fascinating. Our grandfather was educated as a cabinetmaker and started out as a one-man show in 1944. He had a small workshop in the city centre of Aarhus, where he designed and produced one product at a time, and our grandmother sold them in the front of the store. In 1961, they designed and built a 7000m2 factory located in Højbjerg, where all production still takes place today. At that time, there were over 200 men in production and 30 in the office... Today our products are sold all over the world, including North America, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and Europe.” - Kirsten Møller.
Next week we will welcome the @j.l.mollersmobelfabrik family to our shores!
