KINKAKUJI // I'm pretty sure Kyoto's famous golden temple needs no introduction, its one of Japan's most photographed icons. As I'd visited twenty years ago and remembered it being beautiful but crazy touristy, I wasn't super keen to see it again. But the kids spotted a photo somewhere and insisted it was top of their 'must see' list for Kansai, so we bused half way across the city to reach it, waited in line to buy our tickets, and started trekking into the temple complex before I even realised the boys had totally unconsciously colour-coordinated their clothes to camouflage with the temple ground surroundings - go green and gold! Pretty bizarre - must've been vibing on making sure Mum & Dad couldn't find them to retreat to the hotel if we took one look at the massive crowds and changed our minds about entering ;) Anyway despite a little June gloom, we scored a perfectly still day perfect for letting Kinkakuji's famous reflection to truly shimmer. Since the boys were so excited to visit we let them take their own photos to share - will post them on the blog in coming weeks // #discoverjapan#familytravel#japan
When you get invited to a remote village in the Austrian alps with zero public transport and no easy way to get there you scream yes! I had to drive 5 hours from Italy through a hail storm across tiny goat tracks in the Alps into this little valley and it was totally worth it! They asked me to do some location scouting within a 10 minute drive from the venue, all we had to do was drive up. Only 4 days till I'm Sydney bound and 3 more countries before then!
For our final breakfast in La Chartre Sur Le Loir we popped into the local boulangerie for these amazing Brioche Feuillete. Crispy outer layers and fluffy buttery centre. GG #patisseriefrancaise#breakfastporn

If there was ever a time that I felt completely at peace with my insignificance, it was then. If there was ever a time I felt like just a spec on this timeline of...time...it was then. If there was ever a time all the worries that had been dancing in my mind-- the blister that formed from these orthapedic hiking shoes, the annoyance I had over my lack of sleep-- could beautifully dissipate, it was then.🌟
If there was a time my growing ego could gently be knocked more than a few pegs by Mother Nature, it was then. 🌟
Because we think of ourselves as the Earth itself sometimes--we think that time is linear and that the inevitable bad situations we will encounter will last forever. 🌟
Guess what? We know nothing about forever. The closest star to ourplanet, in Deep Space 1, would take over 81,000 years to reach--it takes 4.24 light years to traverse between Earth and Proxima Centaur.
There is so much out there and the reality that we have to just accept is we will never know it all. 🌟
We, fellow humans, are entirely insignificant. And while this may sound negative, I have a challenge for you to wrap your mind around.
Go outside. Find your own peace in nature, somewhere humans haven't polluted. Somewhere where Mother Nature still sparkles in Her eternal glory. And disconnect from everything except for the stars and planets
above. Lay down if you feel most comfortable. And just wait. Wait until the stars momentarily take you away from this planet, from yourself, from this present reality. 🌟
Do the funky chicken in the Milky Way, tickle the nose of Leo the Lion, ask Proxima Centaur what 81,000 years ago was like. And I promise you, just for a moment--you'll understand your place. And no need to even capture it on Instagram. 🌟 .
You can't visit Paris without doing a little shopping! One of our favorite places to browse is the iconic Bon Marché. There are treasures to be discovered on every floor...the luxe department store is stocked with big names as well as local French designers you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Be sure to stop by the Grand Épicerie next door to grab some delicious treats to bring home as well!
