It's always easier grocery shopping with a toddler, right? This one spent the trip eating bananas, an $8 bag of dried strawberries 😬🤦🏽♀️and chocolate pudding off the shelf. One of these days I'm going to forget my wallet and not be able to pay for all the half eaten food in my cart. 🤷🏽♀️
This week's meals:
🌶 Veggie pasta salad 🌶 Roasted butternut squash with farro, veggies, vegan sausage and parm 🌶 Spaghetti squash enchilada boats 🚣🏼 And that's all I could come up with this week. I think a mid-week grocery trip will happen, especially now that I'm upping mileage (8 miles to start my Monday!) and eating everything.
Also, who has a great pumpkin bread recipe they want to share?! 🎃 #basic#wholefoods#momlife
Feeling super grateful for the amazing dinner I ate this evening. I recognize that many do not have the means to pamper themselves with locally and/or organically grown meat and produce the way that I do. For that I feel blessed and also inspired to make the most out every ounce of goodness I bring home from the market. #aip#autoimmunepaleo#autoimmuneprotocol#justeatrealfood#eatclean#kombucha#paleo
I cannot even explain to you how excited I am to dive head first into this comforting bowl of Whole30 compliant chicken pot pie stew from #jaysbakingmecrazy recipe ideas. This one knocks it out of the park people. Today I've been functioning/momming/working on roughly 3hrs of sleep. I need this big bowl of comfort, some #sytycd , and to PASS OUT! 😴✌🏼 #dinner
Just bought these at Sam's Club using Scan & Go.
Two positives from this: the ingredients are decent and my Scan & Go worked! Woop!!
Anyone tried these? Are they any good? Bryan said I have to eat my dinner before I can have one. 😂
Yum!! I had a pack of chicken tenderloins that I needed to use and was scouring my brain for something to do with them when I remembered @paleobailey is the queen of easy one pan meals! I found her honey mustard chicken & veggies recipe and made it + roasted carrots for dinner. I will definitely be making this again!
Also, I found out tonight how little 2lbs of carrots really is. There is maybe a handful leftover for lunch. 😬
Hey, you! I'm back from the most lovely, gorgeous, thoughtful retreat put on by power-house-of-a-woman @ashleyhowardpilates. I met amazing souls, did Pilates and yoga everyday, and journal exercises all in the breath taking beauty of June Lake.
I'm filled with tons of new perspective, but salad game has stayed the same: strong 💪🏼.
Weekly Lunch recap --
BBQ Pulled Pork
Tuna Sammie (yes kids eat bread on occasion)
All these took about 5 mins to make - usually just leftovers and lots of fruits and veggies.
They don't have a microwave at school so how the temp is at lunchtime, is how they eat it. Luke warm baby. 😜
Spaghetti vegetable sprouting up in pots in a 'mini greenhouse' set up. For some of my seedlings, I am trialling using old plastic quilt/ blanket covers to keep my potted seedlings safe from snails and slugs this year! 🌱🌱🌱 Whilst spaghetti vege/ squash seed is usually planted direct, I like to start a few early and see how they go when transplanted, as we have a short warm season here in Canberra, so why not try?
Crispy spicy tofu for dinner
Tofu, I use Super Firm
A little of your favorite oil
@flavorgod Dynamite or your favorite seasoning
Open tofu and drain water and cut into cubes.
Heat a touch of oil in a large skillet and add tofu cubes.
Cook tofu to your preferred consistency.
Add favorite seasoning or sauce.
A cleaned-up remix of shrimp scampi pasta! There are only so many omissions and substitutions you can make with a dish like this before you compromise on flavor. I'm pretty happy with the middle ground I found here! I used @jovialfoods organic brown rice pasta, which in my opinion has the exact same texture and flavor of regular spaghetti. For the sauce, I added 2 tbsp of @kerrygoldusa grass fed butter, a healthy splash of cooking sherry, 4 cloves minced garlic, 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice, a pinch of red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. I simmered the shrimp in the sauce until it turned pink, then tossed the sauce and shrimp into the cooked pasta. I topped it with fresh basil and diced tomatoes to finish. This dish has BIG flavor and I savored every bite. Can't wait to try it with spaghetti squash and ghee and report back!
👇🏼OUR FAVORITE FOOD SWAPS 👇🏼 🍌Refined white sugar to be replaced with 👉🏼dates, honey, maple syrup, or bananas. ✨If you must have sugar, you might as well get the vitamins and minerals that are in the above items instead of consuming white refined sugar which provides your body with 🚫ZERO🚫 benefits, unless you think the caloric factor involved is a benefit! FYI - Sugar of any kind is STILL sugar, so indulge moderately. 🥃Soda to be replaced by either la croix, kombucha, or naturally-flavored carbonated water. ✨The benefits to this switch is reducing the sugar content and the threat of artificial sweeteners found in diet sodas. La croix is naturally flavored and a healthier option. Kombucha is another great option that still has sugar however it is quite low and provides you with beneficial bacteria for your gut! Flavored carbonated water is probably the hardest replacement however transitioning to this is a great option and an array of different flavors on the market. @wholefoods has a ton of options that are naturally flavored with elderflower being my top pick! I’d suggest making this transition in the above order. With kombucha, try multiple flavors as there are an array of flavors on the market with some providing more of a “soda-like” flavor while others are much more earthy. Don't let your first sip determine your openness to try additional flavors! 🍝Gluten-based pastas to be replaced with 👉🏼bean/legume-based pastas. ✨Transitioning into a gluten-free diet or want to bump up the protein content in your diet?Beans and legumes are a great way to increase protein in your diet, especially for vegetarian and vegan diets. This is also an additional way for parents to help increase children’s intake. Outside of bean/legume-based pastas there are a ton of other pastas such as quinoa, kelp, rice pastas, etc. Research each pasta’s benefits to see what’s best for your specific dietary needs! ✅more in the comments!!✅
Looks like fall isn't coming to Dallas, so I'm gunna have to bring fall to it! Maybe if this damn stubborn city smells cinnamon granola wafting from my windows it will get the hint?! Btdubs, this Paleo Apple Cinnamon Granola is the BOMB and made extra chunky with almond pulp!! 🤤
Sunday's class was fun! It was a 90 degree day and my friends still showed up. One even with a hangover. Another with a giant stalk of kale for me. Good friends. ❤️ This is the sumo leg check, one of the strength moves in the middle of the 45 min class. Sumo squat with your legs wide, butt back-- staying low, lift one leg up, keeping your shin facing out, and alternate legs. Try it! 😄👌Or better yet, come try it with us! @element.gym #COREDEFORCE#fightforit#coredeforceinstructor#fitnesscoach
Late working night...missed the gym😩...late dinner...figured I can't go wrong with healthy fats, good carbs and protein.
Sautéed sugar snaps, asparagus and mini corn, topped with boiled eggs and pumpkin seeds, drizzled with a homemade honey/lemon dressing 🤤🤤 #foodthatlovesyouback
Turmeric is bae. 🤤 I could basically put turmeric in anything (and I basically do 🙊). One of my favorite ways to sneak in this #superfood is on pan seared salmon 🐟. You can play around with it, turmeric is so versatile. I love garlic, ginger and turmeric served with roasted broccoli 🌳and here I had some cucumber to use up that I sprinkle with #tajin because #tajinislife and of course some avocado 🥑
It's officially fall which means pumpkin recipes and lots of baking. I made these pumpkin muffins today to pack in the kids lunches and for afternoon snacks. They also are great for breakfast warmed with some butter. I'll be sharing this recipe soon on the blog!! #pumpkinmuffins#pumpkinspice#pumpkin#fallbaking
How do I get enough calories while breastfeeding and following a strict elimination diet? Everyday I drink a smoothie with high quality proteins and fats. Protein feeds your muscles and sustains you. Fats fuel you, balance hormones and nourish your brain. Amongst many other benefits.
A whole avocado, a banana, a peach, hemp seeds, powdered collagen, full fat coconut milk and a heaping dose of cinnamon went into today's magic elixir. Cheers!
Us flexible dieters can get a bad rap sometimes. But that's usually because people don't truly understand what it is. #IIFYM does not mean "if it fits your mouth". It is NoT an easy way out or a way to eat junk food without gaining fat (although it is possible but not suggested). Educated nutrition coaches are not going to tell their clients to eat whatever they want "as long as it fits your macros" but what's important to understand is that it's a process. A process that requires everyone to follow certain guidelines as a series of priorities. First, you have to focus on hitting your macros, and understanding how to consistently reach your numbers on a daily basis. Second, once you've mastered the first step...you must comprise your daily food intake of mostly whole foods (and this is where things get tricky) and some treats here and there for flexibility to keep the diet sustainable long term. Third, we focus on adequate MICROnutrient intake, and most importantly adequate dietary fiber. If a client NEVER gets past the first step...we cannot work on the rest. What's important to understand is that flexible dieting does not mean HiGh carbs, or high fat, it means that it's specifically tailored to the individual based on their calorie needs, their theoretical, ideal macronutrient split, AND what THEY want Based on their regular eating habits with a focus on small changes as we go. You start cutting things out short term and you can bet you're going lose weight, but you can also bet that you're going to gain it back. And if you quit anything before successfully reaching your goal and then successfully learning how to maintain...it doesn't matter what diet you're doing, you will likely be right back to square one in no time. When it comes to fat loss, slow and steady wins the race but you have to stick it out, and you have to follow something you can maintain. Let's change our relationship with food and start loving life again, food included!
Always good to know the spots in your hood that are serving up healthy and delicious meals. As much as I love cooking, I also love enjoying meals out with friends. It's easy to become weary of social situations when sticking to a certain lifestyle and way of eating that works for your body and health. I have a list of my favorites in SF and other cities I travel to that make me feel comfortable knowing they are only using nourishing ingredients that will give me energy and make me feel good.
@medianochesf always delivers with my favorite on their menu, the ceviche with plantain chips. 🙌🏼🐟🍌 Oh, and their floors are awesome. Happy Monday lovelies!
Some serious fall-inspired snackage is going on here 🤗🍎🍂🍁 Despite the warm temps we've been having, this APPLE CHEDDAR STACK perfectly satisfied my craving for fall flavors 😎 I layered sliced Gala and Granny Smith apples with @cabotcheese extra sharp cheddar 🧀 I tried this cheese for the first time on vacation, and for anyone who is lactose intolerant, this cheese is naturally lactose free!! Cheese that is delicious and doesn't hurt my stomach makes me a happy girl 🙋🏼 Drizzled this stack with some @mikeshothoney (honey infused with chiles – this stuff is lit 🔥) and topped with raw walnuts ☺️Happy Monday! 😘

In January 2011, I started my Real Food journey. I committed to this lifestyle of eating primarily whole, real food. And for the most part, stayed on course. BUT -- I had a sweet tooth that I just couldn't shake. Candy corns were one of my downfalls. As the saying goes, I couldn't eat just one. I ate the whole bagful. Couldn't stop or help myself. And then I'd feel awful. Not with guilt or shame (though - yes - some of that). But physically...felt...awful 🤢🤒😫 The #21DaySugarDetox helped me get control over my sweet tooth. Yes -- I still eat sugar. But I'm not triggered or beholden to an insatiable desire for more. And Yes -- I've even eaten a few candy corns since then. But stop when I've had my fill. Which is really pretty quickly. Because honestly nowadays, for the life of me, can't figure out why I liked them so much 😝 In fact, since The #21DSD , my palate has changed. I can taste the difference between sweet vs. rich & savory. I much prefer the latter. And the flavors I now seek out. Which is perfect when you're a #RealFoodie like me. Because there's this luscious world of rich & savory whole, real foods just waiting for us eat 😋😘 If you're interested in feeling empowered by food → Join my 1-on-1 or Online Group for The 21-Day Sugar Detox. My coaching starts October 2nd -- With a full week of Planning & Prep to set yourself up for success. The sugar detox starts on October 9th-29th. Registration closes October 1st at 8 pm (EDT). You can buy your package on my website (Live Link in my bio). Let's do this 💥👊🏽🙌🏽
Had a good workout at circuit with some friends and made a big salad with spinach, veggies, apple pieces, walnuts and unsweetened dried cranberries with a balsamic dressing! We have soccer after naps and then my momma is coming over to visit! 😊#
If you find it hard to quit sugar, you’re not alone. Studies supports that the unstoppable desire to eat sugar is similar to drug addiction. Addiction works in a cycle of reward and craving. When you eat sugar, your brain rewards you with pleasure, but you are able to feel that pleasure again only by eating sugar. The more you eat, the more you crave and the cycle continues.
You can get in control of your sugar cravings and unhealthy snacking but only if you eat foods that fill you up and keep you full for a long time. This is known as 'crowding out' . Work with me to learn which foods are most filling for your unique body and lifestyle and learn to leave the ice cream, biscuits, and crisps behind that leave you wanting more.
Autumn Reset starts in 2 weeks - October 9th.

Sudden Chinese cravings led to a fridge raid which led to egg fried rice with prawns, shredded romaine (nearest I had to hand for Chinese leaf), carrots and courgettes with tamari, fish sauce, palm sugar, sea salt, pepper, sesame oil. Topped with a sprinkling of spring onions. Recipe (tweaked a little) courtesy of Russ @thedomesticman's Ancestral Table cookbook
SPICED CARROT MUFFINS + @sunpotion RHODIOLA PUMPKIN BUTTER • Kicking off the first full fall week with a pair of especially festive recipes. Gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, and easily made vegan. Also like really, really good. Now on the journal, linked in bio 🍎 #pumpkinspiceeverything
The light is starting to get shorter and shorter now that fall is here; thinking about getting a light box ... any suggestions? Today's breakfast is sauteed zucchini & mushrooms, Russian rye toast with avocado and a fried egg 🥑🍞🍳🥒🍄 Have a great day!
YUP...I've got a little vacation fluff...I enjoyed some chips & salsa this trip, some chocolate, and ate later into the evening than I normally would at home.
But for the first time, I chose to appreciate my body and all it does for me. I climbed cliffs and swam in crystal blue water. I went on long hikes and fun interval runs. I danced and I surfed. This body does so much for me. So thank you body! I promise I do love you!
Im excited to nourish you with a whole30 beginning tomorrow! Who wants to join?
Still all the summer time feels 🍅 Spent the weekend in Sonoma county (where I completed my dietetic internship 2 years ago!!) and stumbled upon a farmers market in Sebastopol 👩🏻🌾 Totally dig hippie territory with all the local produce, ferments and farm-to-table food #dietitianish
