This Sunday I organized a fly fishing workshop with the help of my partners from @californiatrout @kernriverflyshop and @ssffclub to help benefit @kernriverconservancy wild trout outreach programs. We had a great turn out and raised over $1000 to help jump start the program. If you’d like to help, shoot me a dm.
This is a great opportunity to learn to fly fish or brush up your fundamental skills on the kern river.
Join us Sunday, November 5, 2017, for our First Annual Fly Fishing Conservation Fundraiser.
This fundraiser will be a conservation workshop put together by Kern River Conservancy, California Trout, Kern River Fly Shop and Guy Jeans School of Fly Fishing. The event will be from 10:00am - 5:00pm and will consist of 2 hours of conservation and heritage trout presentations by CalTrout and Kern River Conservancy. We will break for an hour to have lunch and take a merchandise walk around of Kern River Fly Shop with special discounts for all class attendees. After break, we will hit the mighty kern with legendary fly fishing guide, Guy Jeans for his Fly Fishing Clinic No. 1. *Spaces are limited to only 25 students*
This clinic is for the beginning fly fisher to learn the basics of fly fishing. Our main objective is to provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to successfully utilize as you progress in your journey of fly fishing. In addition to receiving a “Kern River Fly Fishing Handbook”, we will cover fly casting, entomology, fly fishing techniques, strategies, knots and leader construction, fly selection, wading and safety, Southern Sierra fish species to catch on a fly, gear & equipment, where to find fish, fishing etiquette and the proper approach to catching/releasing fish. Upon completion of the class, we hope you feel confident in approaching your fly fishing endeavors. The clinic will take place at the Guy Jeans School of Fly Fishing and on the Kern River.
All equipment will be provided!
Workshop fee is $125.00 and all proceeds benefit Kern River Conservancy's Heritage Trout Conservation Program in collaboration with California Trout. The upcoming program, "Return of the Kern" is based on the highly anticipated reintroduction of native Kern River Rainbows back in our hatchery. The joint partnership between Kern River Conservancy and CalTrout will begin a new education outreach campaign engaging anglers the very importance of our native trout and the sustainable practice of catch and release. We hope to see you all November 5!
Our last river trips for the season went out yesterday. It's been an awesome year on the Kern River and we honestly can't wait for Spring 2018! We're excited to see old and new smiling faces next year. Until then.

We had a great time having University of Redlands, Outdoors program students pay us a visit and lend a much needed helping hand on a river clean up at Corral Creek. We snatched up over a dozen bags of trash. Thank you for stopping by @universityofredlands
Does your president even dip???
Our President and Board Chair, Tricia La belle decided to jump into the frigid pools of peppermint creek to retrieve beer cans that were sitting at the bottom.
Now that’s what we call a fearless leader!
Happy National Public Lands Day. We spent the day and our last clean up of the year exploring the higher elevations of the kern river watershed. We hiked around Dry Meadow Creek, Alder Creek and Peppermint Creek. We pulled 15 bags of trash from 3 miles of creeks and forest.
Looking forward to 2018!!!
