Wayne of Gotham (Book Review) • Wayne of Gotham tells the story of two very different men - one a doctor on the verge of creating a cutting edge medical treatment, the other a detective & vigilante who fights crime in the hopes of keeping his city safe - who are, “connected by blood, but seperated by murder.” This novel follows the very different lives of #ThomasWayne , & his son, #BruceWayne as their paths converge in a story that spans over half a century. • When I first came across this novel I was immediately intrigued by it; not necessarily because it was a Batman Novel, but because it was an *actual* novel. I’ve become very accustomed to seeing #TheDarkKnight presented in a number of different formats; be it within the pages of a #comicbook , on the television in animated form, or on the silver screen. But I’ve never seen - or, oddly enough, *not* seen the Batman like this. With no images - be they moving or still - to lean on, author #TracyHickman is forced to rely on his skill as a writer to bring Batman, as well as the city of #Gotham (with all its familiar characters & landmarks) to life. I’m happy to say he does a damn good job. • As you can imagine, a tale revolving around the life of the #WorldsGreatestDetective falls under the category of #murder /#crime , & aptly so. The mystery surrounding the Wayne family is an intriguing one indeed. I want to credit Hickman on his ability to balance drama, mystery, & action - which are all of the things that make for a great Batman adventure. • If I had to discredit anything about this book, it would be that Hickman was perhaps *too* descriptive at times. Paying close attention to detail is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to writing, but I personally like to have room left for my imagination to run wild, without being told every single aspect. • All in all, #WayneOfGotham may not be a book that ever earned any sort of accolades, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth reading. It does something unique & for that I give it praise. The story is one I’m sure fans of Batman will appreciate, & I imagine even non-fans will enjoy it. • My rating 8/10. • And now back to your regularly scheduled feed!
