My latest and greatest Acorn Cap! #3 This guy is actually hands free, although its a bit risky. Im stoked with the shaping, and color on this bad boy too. 💛 Ive got a few giveaways too, so watch for them in the next day or so!
Portrait of kiln 13, flashing. Twilight. Jerry explained to me that during a firing the heat in a beehive kiln is kept at 900-1000 degrees continuously for two days. The flashing - which happens for just a few hours - is when they cut the air flow to change the color of the bricks inside. From the outside, flames burst out of all the openings in the kiln. It's dramatic, beautiful and hot. #summer#beldenbrick#kiln#flashing
There's something so special about living on beautiful old wood that was once barn wood. Pictured here is our popular pub style flooring. We do installation as well! Email us at email@example.com
Had loads of fun doing #kilnrepair today with @kolbyblack and the best professor ever, Liz Smith. I'm so ready for school to start back and I never would have thought I'd say that until a couple years ago.
This one took forever to glaze, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I don't know exactly what I was going for, but I was contemplating going for a more red/tan palate. So I might make a similar piece and do that. We'll see.
It was by chance that I discovered kiln 13 was flashing. I was scheduled to scout out Plants 6&8 for future shoots but noticed a smokey fuss rising up off of Plant 4. I showed up unannounced to check it out and scared the living sh*t out of Jerry, the one and only person on duty from 2-10:00pm. After he recovered from the shock of seeing an unexpected human behind the kiln we had a lovely evening chatting while he checked kilns and I made photos. We talked about his son going off to college and pickled green beans. I tried to explain long exposure photography to him. And for the record, I did text Doug and he said it was ok for me to change plans and be at Plant 4. #beldenbrick#kiln#makingbricks
This is what happens when the kiln is set to a high fire (6) vs. low fire (06). 😢Our apologies to our customers who spent so much time painting these beautiful masterpieces.. Refunds were given and the next piece they paint is on us. #kiln#lowfire
