So much time and energy has gone into sculpting this piece. This is my third time out in Texas in the last year and today is the day when we finally make a silicone mold and get ready to cast this piece in glass. @hilalhibri x @jeremiahallenwelch
Having a computer controlled kiln does make things easier, especially when the kiln load is sensitive. I’ve been firing both bisque and high temperature firings in this large, Skutt 1227 for several years now, but have started cleaning up an aging gas kiln at the university where I plan to start testing in a light reduction atmosphere again. Excited to get the gas kiln back online, but first there are a few bugs to sort out...a failed BASO valve and a deteriorated soft brick door along with a concern of bird nest debris in the chimney. .
The vase is leather hard and drying quickly. It must be continuously wettened or it becomes too brittle to carve and pierce. Lines are marked, and little pieces of clay are carved and removed. Great care must be taken or the delicate branches will break.

Had a bit of a hiatus while on hols first half of Jan. I’ve not made anything since last year & I’m itching to get on the wheel again! 🤗 These are some pots from my final term of classes. I don’t mind the shape of them but my glazing skills leave much to be desired!! Hoping to get a bit more clued up this year, it’s the stage I find harder to get to grips with... 😬
