#whatsfordinner - lovely evening for a simple dinner on the deck tonight, with some @colinandsallysorganic beef meatballs, feta, basil and pasta sauce on spelt spirals. Delicious. What was on your plate tonight?
SUNY ESF Students came to the farm today for a site visit. For the next two weeks they’ll be creating a permaculture design for the pond area behind the Reeds Seeds barn. Currently surrounded by conventional corn and soy, we hope to transition the land to organic vegetable production in the next 5-10 years. In the short term we’ll use the land we have access to to plant a u-pick blueberry patch and some u-pick pumpkins for our CSA members.
We strive to transition as much land as we can to organic vegetables and utilize sustainable farming methods in order to keep this land viable for generations to come. The Reeds were the first family to farm on this land and we continue to honor their 250 year legacy by being stewards of the land.
When Jim agreed to my crazy idea of getting some chickens, I’m not sure that either of us knew exactly how much fun they would add to the farm. I think even Matt finds humor in them from time to time. Swipe right to see what bright idea this one had yesterday. Everyone wanted to enjoy the clean steer pen.
From the test kitchen w/ chef @katturnerwashere: Glazed cipollini onions are the perfect accompaniment to a slowly braised beef bourguignon, which is the ideal dish for a chilly winter night! Did you know that for centuries onions have been used to reduce inflammation and heal infections? #realeats#nutrition

We found some huge @tngrassfed roasts at the bottom of our freezer, so we ground two of them and now we have ground beef for DAYS. // Here's the easiest, quickest dinner of all time: Brown ground beef with diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Season with oregano, cumin, and chili powder. Toss in diced tomatoes (I used #Rotel tonight) and two diced zucchinis. Serve over mashed cauliflower. // P.S. Is anyone else looking forward to the fresh produce of spring?! 🙋 Sign up for a CSA with our favorite farmers of @farmhousenashville and use promo code "New Bird 2018" to waive the registration fee! 👊
