Learning to "get out of the way" of your self and your mind & let your body do the hard work can be the biggest challenge during labor. Do not underestimate or devalue your intuition - be aware what has been your unconscious or conditioned learning. "True understanding of pregnancy comes from a curious, open mind once cultural binders of conditioned learning have been removed."
@junglepussy said it best. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself. #selfcaresaturday As I wrote on my Postpartum blog, “if the weight of the world is on your shoulders, who is holding you.” #bearthdoula

#Caffeine and #pregnancy don't always go hand and hand, which can be a concern to those who have any commitment to a nice hot cup of #coffee in the #morning ☕ Although the March of Dimes states that until more conclusive studies are done, those who are pregnant should limit caffeine intake to less than 200 mg per day, it is still best to consult with your doctor about your caffeine intake while pregnant.

Cultural differences may lead to 60% of women of color not seeking professional opinions for moody, anxiety, and depressive disorders. You may feel stigmatized for seeking assistance or admitting to mood changes, but it’s important to know you are not alone, and you are strong for seeking a second opinion.
Women in the study found cultural and emotional challenges present themselves when determining whether or not to seek professional help.
You may have heard terms such as “shrink” or told that people are “crazy” when they seek therapy. I have heard these statements also. I want you to know that during my healing process I changed therapists 3 times, none of them were correct for me. It’s important to not give up on your healing journey. It’s important also to not let cultural norms deter you from making the right decisions for your family. We must be the change that encourages others to not endure hardship alone.
I had a false myth of the Strong Black or Brown woman, this limited view of strong must be debunked. You are strong, strong because you put your health first.
You are a Strong.
You push through and we want to see you continue to do so for the long run, that will be difficult to do when the worlds on your shoulders, but your loved ones hands are empty.
You are Strong for being vulnerable and asking others to wash the dishes while you rest. You rest so your energy is renewed and you can enjoy the gift of life that you have just created. You rest to increase your mood. You rest because sleep deprivation is not healthy for yourself or family.
I’ll never forget the day I was told, “if you were in an airplane you would be told to put your air mask on before helping others. You must help yourself before you help others, if you are our last hope, you won’t be much help to us if you are deprived of air.” #bearthdoula
