Royal Air Force Avro Lancasters are depicted here during an incendiary raid allegedly over Berlin in 1944.
Choosing to fly night operations while the U.S. Army Air Force braved the skies and flew by the light of day, RAF Bomber Command heavy bombers dropped a total of 45,517 tons of bombs on Berlin alone during World War II, compared to about half that number dropped on the Nazi capital by the Americans. The first raid against Berlin for the Avro Lancaster was during the night of November 18/19, 1943, which happened to also be the first raid of Great Britain's first large-scale, consistent bombing campaign against Berlin of the war, which lasted until March 1944.
440 Lancasters were involved in this raid of firsts and accompanied by four de Havilland Mosquito fighter bombers. Cloud cover cloaked the city and resulted in minor damage.

Appreciation post. I get a ridiculous amount of compliments on my beard and my hair. It’s incredibly flattering. But it’s all about the man behind the clippers. Best barber in PA, hands down. And the only dude I trust to keep me sharp! @barberjv 🙌🏽🙌🏽 #beard#beardgang#barber#pennsylvania#lancaster#sharp
I'm having a blast with @brusquebabe at the Lancaster Punk Rock Flea Market. (Highlight so far: I had cool conversation with a dude who really loved my Bernie Sanders/Bob Dylan mashup tee). The market runs until 4pm today. Stop by and say hello if you're in or around Lancaster, PA.
