I can't believe you are no longer with us. 😓
I met Raymond Ultarte (aka Voodoo Ray) around 2000. We were co-hosting a Japanese TV Show called, "Soullook: Seize The Night." Then about 7 to 8 years later I became a regular of NYC's TRUE UNDERGROUND DANCE Community. VOO DOO RAY was already a legend of the scene. He truly kept the party going and was really about dance unity. If you never knew who he was, YOU MISSED OUT! It saddens me to learn that he just passed away as a lot of is are still learning the details. I am saddened that so many of my friends are passing away. I remember when Marjory Smarth also passed away, you had us chant her words, "LIVE TRUE! DANCE FREE!" Those words will continue to live on thanks to the both of you.
R.I.P. (Rest in Power) my friend. 💖 "An awareness and understanding of death raises our state of life. When we are cognizant of the reality and inevitability of death we begin to seek the eternal, and become determined to make the most valuable use of each moment of life." - Daisaku Ikeda
竹 [pinyin: zhú] bamboo
The character depicts a couple of bamboo twigs and hanging bamboo leaf.
China has a lot of national treasures, and bamboo is one of them. It is so popular in China, that every village in Southern China is surrounded by bamboo groves. Since ancient times, bamboo has been an essential part of Chinese culture and played a very important role in the daily live, it was used for food, clothing, housing, transportation, music instruments and weapons.
In Ancient China, bamboo was compared with human qualities and personal emotions, the combination of strength and softness is exactly how a Chinese person was supposed to conduct himself in society. The drooping bamboo leaves cross one another, as if they are composing the Chinese character 安 [pinyin: ān] tranquility. Bamboo is often featured in art, both ancient and modern. Also, perhaps the most important use of bamboo in history is its part in the invention of paper by Cài Lún 蔡伦 in 105 AD.
China can be called the kingdom of bamboo, because here grows 400 species of bamboo, almost half of the world’s known species. Bamboo forests usually are described as “bamboo sea” 竹海 [pinyin: zhú hǎi]. Bamboo is really a unique plant. It is the fastest growing plant, reaching full height in a single season, also has a tremendous reproductive capacity, therefore it is worshiped as a symbol of fertility. Moreover, it has a very long lifespan, bamboo can live to 120 years old.
But bamboo has a very important place in the future. As deforestation increases, bamboo can slow this process, because of its fast growing and can help protect forests and improve agriculture, mitigate climate change, reduce fossil fuel use.
If you want to see an incredible view, visit Grand Bamboo Sea of China 中国大竹海 [pinyin: Zhōngguó dà zhú hǎi] in Zhejiang Province 浙江省 [pinyin: Zhèjiāng shěng].

Nose: Bananas, heavy glue (UHU all purpose adhesive), fresh mint leafs, roasted bread, artificial vanilla, burnt caramel, nail polish remover and a heavy, nearly artificial sweetness. /
Taste: Ripe bananas, brown sugar, fresh grounded black pepper, minted glue, soft walnut bitterness, milk coffee, always pungent and sharp and a really powerful, somehow artificial vanilla. /
Finish: Middle long till long. One of my favorite bourbon whiskeys so far, 86 points. /
Nase: Bananen, massive Klebernoten (UHU-Allzweckkleber), frische Minzeblätter, geröstetes Brot, künstliche Vanille, verbranntes Karamell, Nagellackentferner und eine schwere, fast künstliche Süße liegt über allem. /
Geschmack: Reife Bananen, brauner Zucker, frisch gemahlener schwarzer Pfeffer, Kleberaroma mit Minz-Einschlag, weiche Walnussbitterkeit, Milchkaffee, durchgehend etwas scharf und sehr kraftvoll und wieder die irgendwie künstlich wirkende Vanille. /
Finish: Mittellang bis lang. Einer meiner liebsten Bourbons bisher, dafür gibt’s 86 Punkte. *
