In early 2016 the LEGO Foundation wanted to design a space that would invite people into a hands-on experience of learning through play 🃏 ⠀
You can now read our interview with Amos Blanton, researcher at the Lego Foundation and Kasper, architect and daily director of GXN on our blog 📚
Right To Play har programmer ved barneskolen Nyakitono i Nata, Nord-Tanzania.
The language of play helps bridge the gap between teacher and students. Dino, a teacher in Mozambique, uses games to break the ice around taboo subjects like HIV/AIDS, sexuality and pregnancy. His students are responding by opening up and asking questions, taking responsibility for their bodies, and feeling motivated to support one another.⠀
"In a playful situation, it is easier to talk about ‘serious’ things which otherwise are considered difficult to discuss.” says Dino, "Play-centered learning is good for the teachers as well as the students; personally, I am now less fearful of addressing sensitive topics like HIV/AIDS, sexuality and pregnancy when I use a game. The students are also less scared of me and each other when we use a playful approach; they ask questions openly and participate. Using play relaxes everyone and we talk like friends."⠀
Dino completed his play-based learning training in 2015. Our training guides teachers like Dino in how to use play to develop students’ critical life skills like confidence, resilience, communications, and collaboration. For Dino, the training has helped to break down the barriers to communication between himself and the students.⠀
Spent the day learning about the importance of play for kids. Most of our kids and grandkids will work in jobs that haven't even been invented yet. Play and incorporating strategies of child and brain development is key to set them up with skills they can use. @lego is doing some pretty cool stuff with @unicef and kids around the world. And, thanks to @broadwbaby42 ,this is Emma as a Lego. ________________________________________________________#LegoFoundation#UNICEF#KidPlay#instagood#dailygram#kids
