Missing these printing days quite a lot these days, but I'm hoping to find a studio space soonish (probably without a press) and I'm excited to figure out what I can make with my somewhat limited resources. #toronto#printing#letterpress#printmaking
From Der Orchideengarden, 1919. Letterpressed books and magazines have a special place in my heart. This process can transform something as commonplace as a daily newspaper into a work of art. Before the Environmental Protection Act began in the early 1970s, printing inks contained highly toxic metal compounds like lead and cadmium. These heavy metals provided the incredible depth and richness we've come to appreciate in antique prints.

One of my all time favorite cards from @ironcurtainpress. Woohoo for another Monday in the books. And woohoo for antibiotics to knock out the lovely strep infection I awoke with. Anyone had a tonsillectomy as an adult? The ENT made mention of it today as something to consider/pursue. 😳Super curious how terriblé that would be. 😷🤒🤕
Having some fun tonight with antique wood type and white ink under hot pink. It’s never too early to start printing for the holidays! Let us know if you need some one-of-kind #letterpress#holidaycards 🌟

“Butterfly, Pansies and Lady Bug” was engraved on castello boxwood by WEN member Robert Simola. An edition of 100 was printed for a WEN bundle that came along with an issue of “Block and Burin”. From Robert: ”The lady bug was in the original design but I never got her quite right so I decided to hide her behind the flower. I suppose I could have changed the title of the print but I liked the idea of a hidden lady bug. I wonder if anyone will turn the print over to see if the lady bug is on the back? If they do and don’t see her, I guess I will tell them she must have flown away.
So excited for the dry week we're having in Seattle! ...AND lest you thought I forgot: happy birthday Scorpios! 😀 Yours is the eighth sign in the zodiac, spanning 210-240 degrees of celestial longitude, and your element is water. Folks born under this sign are magnetic, brave, and love an element of danger. 😉 Happy birthday to you! If you aren't a Scorpio, tag a friend who is!

Masthead Monday! As folks who set type for a living, we're thinking about words all day long. Names are the trickiest: One misplaced letter, and we're making a poster for a stranger, or worse, a person who doesn't actually exist. These two operations (most likely carnival rides, plus some human interest offerings, such as the boy with alligator skin) have names we would have happily carved once to save us from typestting over and over! #mastheadmonday#letterpress#getinky#preservationthroughproduction
Thinking of a special edition for a little one, don't forget to include these adorable letterpress bookplates to make them a permanent part of his/her library. Ex libris of someone very special. #bookplate#babyshower#letterpress
We passed an open window and spied a room filled filled with old letterpress equipment and heard a press at work in the background, so we knocked on the door and asked if we could take a peek. #cubanhospitality 💕🇨🇺 #letterpress
I had almost as much fun designing these dreamy invitations as I did flailing around the dance floor wearing a Rick James wig in celebration of the newlyweds on Saturday night. Cheers to Mr. and Mrs. Hall for exquisite taste in everything from paper to wedding bands. 🥂 #gabeshallaboutit
