Hi! My name is Tiffany Diaz - I am a continuing education provider for massage therapists! I offer hand-saving 🙌🏽 modalities that will help you prolong your career in massage 💆🏽 Ashiatsu 👣 Barefoot massage, 👣Fijian Barefoot massage, and warm Bamboossage 🎋 classes for fall can be found on my web page! Click the link 👆🏽👆🏽in my bio to discuss adding to your menu of treatments! I love to book one on one training sessions - especially if you are traveling to me from out of state! I'm located in Fort Smith, Ar. - the cost of living here is low so your trip won't cost 💰💰nearly as much as it would to travel to a large metropolis! Grab a friend 🙎🏽♂️🙍🏻and make it a road 🚗 trip!
The last modality I'll be touching on for a bit is Acupressure! Another one of my favorites 🤓
Used for thousands of years in China, acupressureapplies the same principles as acupuncture to promote relaxation and wellness and to treat disease. Sometimes called pressure acupuncture, acupressure is often thought of as simply acupuncture without the needles.
Traditional Chinese medical theory describes special acupoints, or acupressure points, that lie along meridians, or channels, in your body. These are the same energy meridians and acupoints as those targeted with acupuncture. It is believed that through these invisible channels flows vital energy -- or a life force called qi (ch'i). It is also believed that these 12 major meridians connect specific organs or networks of organs, organizing a system of communication throughout your body. The meridians begin at your fingertips, connect to your brain, and then connect to an organ associated with a certain meridian.
According to this theory, when one of these meridians is blocked or out of balance, illness can occur. Acupressure and acupuncture are among the types of TCM that are thought to help restore balance.
Acupressure practitioners use their fingers, palms, elbows or feet, or special devices to apply pressure to acupoints on the body's meridians. During an acupressure session, you lie fully clothed on a soft massage table. The practitioner gently presses on acupressure points on your body. A session typically lasts about one hour. You may need several sessions for the best results.
Hopefully this helps you understand a little bit about a more holistic approach to massage, and maybe even gives you another option of massage you'd like to try. As always, please reach out with any questions you may have! 😄
Neck - Clavicular - Sternocleidomastoid muscle⠀
This muscle is also known as sternomastoid and commonly abbreviated as SCM. It is a paired muscle in the superficial layers of the side of the neck. It is one of the largest and most superficial cervical muscles. If a client is having issues with headaches or pain that refers to the top or back of the head, this would be a good muscle to work during their massage treatment.⠀
Artery: Occipital artery and the superior thyroid artery⠀
Nerve: Motor - accessory nerve, Sensory - cervical plexus⠀
Action: Acting alone, tilts head to its own side and rotates it so the face is turned towards the opposite side. Acting together, flexes the neck, raises the sternum and assists in forced inspiration.
Neck - Clavicular - Platysma muscle⠀
The platysma is vulnerable to tears, strains and muscle atrophy among many other possible conditions. Neck bands in the area become most noticeable with age, aggravated by weightlifting or facelift.⠀
Artery: Branches of the submental artery and suprascapular artery⠀
Nerve: Cervical branch of the facial nerve⠀
Action: Draws the corners of the mouth inferiorly and widens it (as in expressions of sadness and fright). Also draws the skin of the neck superiorly when teeth are clenched⠀
Antagonist: Masseter, Temporalis
Larynx - Cricoarytenoid muscles - Lateral cricoarytenoid muscle⠀
Nerve: recurrent laryngeal branch of the vagus⠀
Action: Adduct and medially rotate the cartilage, pulling the vocal ligaments towards the midline and backwards and so closing off the rima glottidis
I love it when one of my #ashiatsu graduates comes by to let new students practice on them! Not only does it feel great to receive the barefoot work - but it's an excellent way to have a "refresher" course. Listen to my coaching while getting a free 2 hour massage....not a bad deal at all! ❤️👣❤️🙌🏽❤️👣

Larynx - Cricoarytenoid muscles - Posterior cricoarytenoid muscle⠀
The posterior cricoarytenoid muscles are the only muscles to open the vocal cords.⠀
Nerve: Recurrent laryngeal branch of the vagus⠀
Action: Abducts and laterally rotates the cartilage, pulling the vocal ligaments away from the midline forward and so opening the rima glottidis
