I said, "Your breath smells like a Greens Chew." She said, "No it doesn't. It smells like THREE Greens Chews." 😂 I don't mind though. She's getting tons of antioxidants to help her immune system, which is something that's ALWAYS on my mind. Snack away, sweet girl. This is a "candy" that Mama doesn't mind sharing! 💚
It's about creating new habits and getting back inline where we are suppose to be.
It won't happen overnight. You must show up and make it a priority to live a healthy and fit life. It's not about the end it's about the journey that leads you there. Every single step you make to improve your life will add up in the end.
Will you make that change or will you keep telling yourself "one day I'll get it together?"
Will you JOIN me?
What is holding you back from reaching your health and fitness goals? Hint: It's not your body! 😲
Next Monday, September 25th, I will start a Free 5 Day Mindset Mentoring Workshop called "How to get out of your OWN doggone way", in this community!
If you're tired of quitting, can't get your mind right, or just don't have motivation or confidence, this workshop is for YOU! I want to GIVE you the tools that you need to succeed! I've talked to so many women who are struggling and what I've found is that to be successful at anything (not just health and fitness), you have to get your mind right FIRST!
So stay tuned and get ready for some change. I can't wait to get started and see some "aha" moments!
🚂 ⛑️ TOY ROTATION 👑 🚒
The other day during a playdate in our home, a mom asked me, "Are you a minimalist or something? Where are all the toys?" And while we do try to keep things minimal and uncluttered in our home, the real answer is toy rotation. 🙌
Toy rotation is like magic. Want kids who help clean up, even young toddlers? Start rotating their toys. Want your kids to love and play with all their toys? Try a toy rotation. Want clean up to be done in under 15 minutes? Rotate toys. Want more relaxed, happy kids? Have you heard of toy rotation?! .
@simplyonpurpose (Do you follow her?! Run and do it!) talked about how big of an effect changing your environment can have on behavior in your home and this one environment change has been huge for us. My husband heard good things about it from a co-worker (a little random) so we decided to give it a try, even though I wasn't sure about it since we didn't have a ton of toys to begin with. And guys, all those amazing things I listed above? They really happened in our home. So here's what we did. .
1️⃣ We move the toys out of their bedrooms. We don't have a designated playroom so this wasn't easy to do. We keep them in a cabinet in the upstairs hall and it's been great.
2️⃣ We keep toys that are out of the rotation in cheap, stacking bins from Ikea at the top of the closet. The toys are sorted by type (animals, dress-up, dinosaurs, trains, etc.) into the bins to make it easy to move toys in and out of the rotation.
3️⃣ We keep toys that are currently being played with in bins as well. These are also sorted by type to make clean up easier. Even our 18 month old can clean up a bin with minimal assistance!
4️⃣ We rotate toys each week on the same day. The kids are part of the process and have some say in the toys that are picked for that week. They help with sorting (easy learning activity!) and helps them "buy in" to not getting to play with all their toys whenever they want. I thought a system like this would cause some tension but they really love it. .
Do you have a toy rotation system? What do you do in your home?
I love that I caught Tommy in his letter "H" phase (and Johnny doing precisely what his big brother does st all times). He draws them everywhere and is so proud when he does 😍 Then he proclaims "The H says huuu-huuu-huuuuuu" in a breathy yoga voice. #namaste .
I love the ivy on this old house.🌿 So many people have advised me to cut it down 🙉 "It'll welcome bugs in he house." they say. "It'll ruin the brick." they say. 🙄 I tell them they are silly. Not happening. Not today, or any day ✋🏻
Didn't realise my girls were natural at dancing. We went for a free trial today and now they're already dancing in the Riverside theatres in a few weeks time for their first concert. Sometimes kids amaze me how fast they pick things up. #dance#mom#lifewithkids#happy#girls#theyamazeme
When your three-year-old is sick of smiling for pictures 😅 On a side note, the next post on the blog will be about trips into Disneyland/California Adventure with little kids (i.e. Under 40" and babies). Keep your eyes peeled 👀
"Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeessss" he says when you take a picture.
He is obsessed with cars and uses anything (or anyone) as a road.
He's figured out how to push Livi's buttons and they run second only to the buttons on the dishwasher.
He loves to sing - especially Chris Stapleton. He has also learned to make the most of his mom's love of trashy pop music with his smooth dance moves.
He loves his baby cousin and takes such good care of him by shoving puffs in the baby's mouth when he cries, trading snacks for things the baby can't eat, and holding his juice cup up for him.
He will be my little California surfer boy for a while because I just can't bring myself to cut those adorable blonde locks.
18 months is for sure my favorite age.
🖌Do you study art with your kids?🎨
Introducing your kids to art and great artists is about to much more than painting. It's inspiring them to be creative, exploring new mediums, learning about career paths... and even that some of the most famous artists in the entire world weren't all that famous or successful, and some were even highly criticized, during their day.
When we started our Art History for Kids study, we began with Matisse - his use of shape, vibrant color and of course his famous cutous are perfect starting points for little artists. We studied his Goldfish and broke it down into basic shapes and colors that even my preschoolers could use as starting points to paint their own versions. .
To learn more about how we explored shapes and color with Matisse's Goldfish, along with 🎨 15 vibrant Matisse activities for kids🖌 and the rest of our Art History for Kids series, visit the direct link in my bio 👆🏻📲
Before I had Caleb I worked out all the time! After I had him I just stopped. I was exhausted. I didn't know how to fit it in, much less eat or shower. When I joined my first challenge group I worked out ONLY when he napped. Then he stopped. 😩
I felt like a bad mom for doing it in front of him (silly, I know) because I never saw my mom do that and I guess I thought it would be selfish. I thought my whole world, every day, had to revolve around him for me to be a good mom. And that wasn't good. I forgot I even had a life of my own, passions, a body to take care of. Its been a process but I learned to lay down the guilt one day at a time.
Now here I am working out with TWO kids, something I never thought I would be able to manage. Yet it wasn't terrible, Josh watched & laughed and Caleb joined in a little. It made my heart happy. For one because they will grow up learning to take care of their bodies and SEEING the importance of self care, and two because it shows that this perfectionist mom really is making progress and learning to be a little less rigid and show herself a little more grace. ❤️ If you're where I was and just don't see how you can fit it in, I would love to help you or at least chat! You don't have to join a group or buy anything, I would just love to help you because it truly has changed my life completely! But if you're curious about joining me, Fitting in Fitness starts October 2 and I would love to help you find a way to make self care a priority in your home too! 😘
I'm gonna get real for a minute. I was up for a late night feeding going through Instagram. I come across several pages with amazing white decor. Like not a spot of dirt or dust anywhere to be seen, amazing. In my head I'm like my house used to be like this before kids.... until boom!! I keep reading.... they have kids!!! What?!?! There were several feeds I scrolled through envious of their farmhouse style, crisp, white everything. How do they do that with kids?!?! Why is all the glass decor sitting within reach of a toddler not broken or on the floor?!?! Why?!?! This is my life folks. Full of toys on the floor until bedtime and we clean up. Perishable Groceries covering my counters because I just can't find the time to put them away, dishes in the sink (surprised there is no naked toddler jumping on the couch) this is life. I would love to have all that beautiful farmhouse stuff but now, this is really, really want I want.
4 kids 5 and under is a tough one. Running a business is a tough one. Combine the two and all you think is mass hysteria!!! 🤣🤣 but that's okay because it's our life and we love it. The mess in all its glory. So, here's to real life everyday with kids. 😁😊👣 .
These wooden boats are safe from the storm. New to the LMW collection, meet 3.5 beam. The design mechanics are simple - push, pull, or propel it. Take this lil' vessel in the bay, river, or bath tub. Equipped with a balloon engine; who needs a battery. If only all boats were this earth friendly and economical.
Do you remember when you where a kid and you liked yourself the way you where? When you'd drew a portrait of your family and in your eyes everyone where beautiful? ✨| I wish this perception could stay with us, genuine and unharmed. If we could look at ourselves just like we look at the people we love, and find them beautiful. If we could just stop criticizing our bodies. And if we could all raise girls who'd love themselves for what they do and for who they are, without really caring too much for what size they are. ☺️
Today I made some space for a restorative pose.
It's been awhile. I'd been pretty solid doing a restorative pose every night when my husband was away for flight training.
Then he came back and I slipped back into our familiar rhythm, absent of these nightly poses.
I missed them, but apparently not enough to add them back in.
Today also happens to be the third day of my Self-Care Toolkit program. The self-care practice for day 3 is to relax and restore your body in whatever way feels good.
It was the middle of the day and I figured, if not now, when? I knew tonight would be impossible as I have a very important date with a dear friend.
I don't usually do restoratives in the middle of the day.
As I laid out my very simple set-up I thought, "I am so not in the mood for this. I have work to do. Things to finish up. Important stuff."
Which basically means that I don't think restoring and relaxing is important.
RESTORING AND RELAXING IS IMPORTANT.
All caps. Full stop.
As I laid on my props, I felt fidgety. I felt like I couldn't get comfortable. I felt like I could be doing other things.
So I kept breathing. And softening my body.
And guess what?
I started to let go. I started to drift. I released that annoying voice in the back of my head telling me I wasn't being productive.
Resting is productive.
Restoring is healing.
I have no idea how long I was here.
My phone buzzed with some alert. I startled back to consciousness.
I sat up.
I felt totally revived.
Turns out midday restoratives are lovely.
My subconscious, that's who.
Take time to rest your body.
Knowing how to relax is a powerful act of self-care.
I am grateful for this reminder today.
And definitely back on the restorative pose a day train.

We had a breakthrough tonight at our house!!! My SUPER picky 6 year old actually tried pork tenderloin and LOVED it! I had to take his plate away so he would quit eating and five minutes later he said, "I can't wait until tomorrow so I can have more pork with ketchup sauce". (Yep...I called it "ketchup sauce" because I knew that would get his attention. What kid doesn't love ketchup, right? 😂). I can't tell you how happy I am to find something, besides pb&j, mac & cheese, and chicken nuggets, that he'll actually eat! #momwin
