This was the point in my drive to the Shenandoah Valley (and Shenandoah National Park) that I started to tear up a bit.
I've read extensively about the small towns I was driving through- its founders and early history from years of genealogy research.. And now I was finally in sight of those mountains!
Several lines on my paternal grandfather and grandmother's lines arrived first in Virginia, specifically Jamestown and small towns (forts bordering Indian territory) in the Shenandoah Valley. They later moved to Ohio in the early 1800s and all generations lived there until I moved (back to) New York (New Amsterdam- but that's another line and story). 🇺🇸
