The 2nd band out of 3 bands, the 1st being @tree.myofficial that I approached to be in this little experiment to test out the revived @solidstatelogic #SSL4000G + at the School of Arts.
It was... Interesting. The studio had some things that were supposed to be operational but wasn't. Kudos to COD esp @eyonlapar for pulling this off without monitors, YES, no monitors for his vocals.
The room is amazing. The mics enough, preamps were OK, but the EQ and Comp of the SSL. Sigh.. And yes the compressor I tattooed on my arm is from the SSL.
Can't wait for the video courtesy of @cyriljonjawing to come out soon.
Again thank you @chugsondeck for taking this blind dive with me and also to @skylinepro.com.my for letting me treat the studio as if it was my own. Shout out to @bonbonliaw for running Protools and assisting.
Today's announcement: can we talk about women in jazz?
From the get-go, my goal has been to have as many women and non-binary folk in my band as possible (all while maintaining quality of music). The jazz scene can be hard to break into - especially for those women and enby folk - so I've been extremely lucky to stumble across not just one, not just two, but a total of four incredible women to bring into my recording.
Of the eight musicians on stage, a total of FIVE of us will be women. @appalachiantoalpine will be playing rhythm guitar. Elizabeth Pascoe is my amazing swing pianist. @stardust.mine will be holding down the drums, and @figments_of_deemaginations brings us the sweet sounds of clarinet.
To say I am excited about this is an understatement. Not only are these women talented musicians, but they're also talented dancers and incredibly valuable members of society. I cannot express how honored I am to be able to play alongside them, and I cannot wait to record with them!
Kickstarter on January 19th - stay tuned!
I don't always have time to be in the recording studio with @kalanipeamusic but today I did! At least for most of the day! Most of the people we work with are on Oahu so it is financially challenging for us as outer island artist but today we were able to bring @davetucciarone to #Maui 👏🏼 it was a great productive day > it's late and I'm still working but it is the life I have chosen and I'm grateful and blessed to live this life! Have a great week everyone and I hope you all had a good weekend! Aloha!
An attempt on Calum Stewart's The Angel's Share with @stanishakustik with double bass and drumkick on the background. Tried to play it at 110BPM while the original is at 120BPM, still catching bag pressure and a bit lost in the end but it's getting better I guess.

Hey Peeps! ⭐️ BIG 📡 ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨ALERT 💥
So if y’all were at the SOLD OUT show on Friday (no worries if you weren’t able to make it, The Professionals and I still love ya) you’ll have heard that I’m currently working on putting together an album of my best and favorite songs. I ended 2017 in a writing spell with about 92 songs that I whittled down to 47 then cut down 30 then finally 17. I felt like that number was still a little too hefty and there were songs that though I really loved, didn’t add to the prosody of the story I want my first LP to tell.
That being said, I reached out to the one-and-only, magician of a man, Mr. Aaron at his Leesta Vall Studios in Brooklyn,(@leestavall) to help me record these special tunes. We ended up spending the morning of my birthday recording 29 takes of the 5 songs that I decided wouldn’t make the album - “Walking On A Ghost”, “Thought Of You”, “Passing Through”, “These Four Walls”, and, “Songbird” - and Mr. Zimmer with his musically sorcery, lathe cut these records himself.
And as if these vinyls weren’t special enough already, each take is completely different; seriously, I tell a different dad-joke at the beginning of each take... The guys and I alternate solos, change chord progressions, you name it, so if you purchase one of these limited-edition bad boys (or girls) for $25, you’ll literally have a one-of-a-kind, unable to be duplicated
If you’re interested in purchasing, go ahead and click the link in my bio or even shoot me a DM and so we can meet in person and I can give you a hug and cry into your arms thanking you for your support.
ALSO, funds from the sales are going directly to recording the first album! Wahoo!!! Big thank you to the 2 Professionals who joined me in the studio, Mr. Patrick Cochrane (@p__coch) on the bass and Mr. Wade Ridenhour (@waderidenhourmusic) on the keys and once again, the magnanimous, Mr. Zimmer.
P.S. Give me 5 years and you’ll be able to sell this on eBay for enough to money to pay off your student loans. 😉
Something cool went down yesterday at @cherokeemusiccenter These guys have had our backs since they opened their doors! Be on the look out for some cool video recordings! Thanks again @gigpumpmag for everything!#CHEROKEEMUSICCENTER#CHIPMCGUIREBAND#NUGRASS
