Oh, be still my beating heart! I’ve come across A Modern Grand Tour's Ostrich Feather Lamp in various places for a while, and then met them at #MaisonandObjet and the #LondonDesignFestival . I love them and they’re definitely a conversation piece. The unique style and innovative combination of ostrich feather and gold mean that even a simple, elegant room would get a huge style infusion with one of these beauties. I’m hoping that 2018 brings me the right project for one of them! #interiordesign#amoderngrandtour#amazinglighting#amcdesign#greatdesign

EvA is a collaboration between embroiderer @elliemac.embroidery and print designer @amelia_graham_print forming Ellie V Amelia
Both alumni of the @unioftheartslondon , they met in Brighton studying Art Foundation in the late 90s. They went on to forge successful careers in the Fashion industry with work appearing in international press and on the catwalk of RTW designers In 2014 they joined forces to create EvA, producing Fine Art textiles pieces for high- end commercial and private clients across the world. Utilising digital technology and traditional textile artistry, they aim to create a dialogue between fast and slow textile practice and the cross over of fine art, design and craft. With work appearing in international hotels, private clubs, and domestic residences, EvA aim to keep production small, personal and a one off , each piece is hand rendered in our studio, never to be replicated again.
EvA can be commissioned, please email us to discuss your project commercial or domestic.
DGM 174 TURNER CARVER FOR SITTING FIRM
Designed by Charles Dedman for Sitting Firm
Awarded Design Guild Mark in 2017
Born from experimentation and love for traditional techniques. The Turner Carver combines the efficient process of turning with the dark art of steam-bending, resulting in a minimalist functional chair which celebrates these crafts. With a Scandinavian approach, the design has been evolved from a softwood prototype to a viable production product with mass appeal. The repetition of the 'turner tenon' joint, whereby a spindle is turned down to 19mm at the jointing end thus creating a tenon to fit into a partner hole. This creates a simplistic language which lends itself to mass production and opens up to a range which shares the same jointing. The Carver is aimed to sit at the head of the Turner Table, with the Turner Dining Chair each side. But it works well as a stand along chair in the corner of a room for admiring or desk chair.

Previous post cont …........ ☁️Silver lining - 2017 saw us shift from 100% handmade by us to small batch production/manufacturing for part of our making processes. Its been a long, steep learning curve and often frustrating, shifting from a design you make yourself by hand to handing over some/all of that process requires extensive research, communicarion, factory visits and many test samples along the way. The purpose of this process is not just about producing a design more effectively and financially viable, but to ensure the design and finish are to the standard you require and have worked hard to achieve. There are compromises to be made and you have to accept that as designer-makers, however the outcome for one of our designs, the ceramic birds unfortunately proved a compromise too far. The making has therefore now returned to us and we will handmake the ceramic birds from beginning to end. What did we learn, well a very important development emerged from this process, during those many months spent in consultations and visits with the ceramic manufacturers we spent our studio time experimenting and developing the bird design in an alternative material (see a little hint above), the result was a new range handmade by us that we absolutely love and are very excited to launch at @ldndesignfair Sept 2018. The very process of persuing outsourcing for the ceramic bird design pushed us to overcome issues raised with the making by others and the material constraints by researching and experimenting with alternatives, findind a solution. We will continue to make the ceramic range, they will now once again be handmade 100% by us, as will our new range too. With our second new design, a jewellery object we have had a success with small batch production, this design will be part outsouced but finer details finished by our hands, a perfect mix for this particular object in regards to effective production and achieving an accessible price point for the customer. #designermaker#designstudio#design#handmade#contemporarydesign#contemporarycraft#concrete#minimal#hothouse2017#emergingdesigner

On the subject of stairs... just found this little gem, taken of co-founder Bee @l_d_f_official last year, sitting on a colourful set of stairs leading to a chair by @yinka_ilori, a London based designer who specialised in up-cycling. We always have great fun discovering new designers, the more colour the better. Are there any design shows happening this year that we should know about? We'd love to hear your top tips of any up and coming events or emerging talent. #girlboss#africandesign#yinkailori#newdesigners
Feeling excited today! Lots of exciting things happening TBA 🍈 Some more pics from durational performance at Clinic //2 back in September @oxotowerwharf London @vitaminlondon as part of @l_d_f_official featuring @thykingdomcum @susiecbrowning @700.2333 @700.235 700ok boys. Clad in silicone pregnancy bellies and PVC and reflective 3M garments, performers, in reference to the revolution of AI, explored innate feelings of connection usually associated with mother and child, in a world where the human is intertwined with the digital.
