A view of Mt. Misery and it's reflection on Pirate's Cove. In the early 1930's, the Seaboard Sand and Gravel Corporation were in charge of dredging the area. As part of the process, they cleared away all of the trees that made their home at the top of the 120-foot sand and gravel embankment in order to prevent them from falling onto the dredge boats as they dug out the ground below. In doing so, they completely changed the shape and environment of the Long Island Sound coastline in the area. There is also another long-lasting effect of the Seaboard Sand and Gravel Corp's actions that visitors might notice today. Being that even the oldest trees on Mt. Misery are less than 90-years-old, they are much smaller and thinner than was once the case and still is in a lot of the surrounding area.

Yesterday we worked with students from Avalon Park and Preserve in Stony Brookto conduct a land-based seal survey in. We observed two robust harbor seals hauled out offshore! Our team also collected 8.7 pounds of marine debris including balloons, balloon strings, and plastic bottles. Human impacts, like trash found on the beach, directly impact the health and safety of marine animals in our waters. Find out how you can help promote conservation through action by joining us for one of our upcoming lectures, seal cruises, or beach cleanups! Click the link in our profile to learn more.
Sunset at Iron Pier in Jamesport. Today was the last shoot for the @ayearinthesound project that @thenicebrice @sidliciousicious and I have been working on for the past year. So thankful for the experience of getting to explore so many amazing places with two of my best friends. If you don’t already, please follow our page as we start the process of turning the project into a book!
