Year in Review 5: so I was incredibly lucky that AAADT rolled into town right after Ballet Hispanico. Thanks again to kind introductions from @caincoleman_jr, I was able to collaborate with some amazing members of the company. I am grateful to all of them, as I know how grueling tour life is: spending some of your precious time off doing a photo shoot is a true gift to the photographer. And in this case special thanks to @jacquelinh and @chlvrmntro for taking on the blazing LA heat and give so much to the shoot. It was a joy working with them, and I was so happy to be able to spend some time with them later on in Paris.
In evaluating our past decade and planning for the next, I've been thinking a lot about the work that I make, and the themes that run through it. One that comes up again and again, is hope. There is something irrepressibly hopeful in the work Invertigo creates. There is always something forward moving, hopeful and healing as we move onwards, upwards and upside down.
Our hope is not optimism born of ignorance. We acknowledge hard situations, for example, sexual violence in "Reeling" and "After It Happened." We portray a couple navigating a miscarriage in "Interior Design." Trauma is real. These things happen.
Ours is optimism that is hard won, fought for, carved out. "After It Happened" was about a community scratching hope out of nothing. "Interior Design" follows much of the same theme. How do we get up after loss and keep going together? Can we laugh along the way? Can we hold onto who we are?
Hard-won hope means a lot more to me. It means we can move forward. These are important stories to tell. - Laura Karlin, Founder/Artistic Director, Invertigo Dance Theatre

My my my! Oh the things you could accomplish if you knew your success was guaranteed. But one things for certain if you take no action or take action timidly the only thing is guaranteed is you remaining in the same spot for ever. So be bold and take bold action! Truly believe it in your mind body and soul and it will manifest itself in the real world. Speak and the universe will listen ✨❤️🙏🏾

Cold? Windy? Well, it’s Snow Queen time! Those Forest Trees have blown in quite a cold snap from the east and it’s sending the Reindeer and all of the Forest Creatures deeper into Gypsy territory to hunker down. Of course the Snowflakes and the Snow Queen aren’t going to make it easy. Expect continued weather updates as we move toward December 15 and through the 17th when California Contemporary Ballet REALLY start to create some frosty weather from the the inner realm of the Snow Queen .
