Another view of the #AlexandraBridge crossing the #OttawaRiver to #Quebec , this time from #SussexDrive near the Embassy of Japan. The bridge’s main span length is 169.4 meters, while the structure length is 566 meters. There are three main spans.
“The #AlexandraBridge was originally the named the Interprovincial Bridge and officially renamed "Royal Alexandra Bridge" only a year later. The bridge is a magnificent #heritage bridge that spans the #OttawaRiver right next to the center of Canadian government, Parliament Hill. […] It is also next to where the #RideauCanal , a World Heritage site, connects to the Ottawa River. In a setting with such rich heritage and iconic structures, this bridge is an essential element of the area and it contributes greatly to the rich heritage and culture found here. The bridge has been honored by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering as a National Historic Civil Engineering Site.
“Aside from the iconic geometric beauty formed by its trusses, the #bridge is historically & technologically significant as an extremely early surviving example of a large-scale cantilever truss bridge that represented a significant engineering achievement when completed. There are only a very small number of surviving #cantilever truss bridges in North America that are older than this bridge. It was especially noteworthy in the context of Canada because it was designed and erected by Canadians without assistance of firms outside the country.
”A bridge with more than just a truss as a cantilever, the deck of this bridge is extremely unusual because it includes a design where the floorbeams are cantilevered far out beyond the truss lines to provide lanes originally for both vehicular and electric rail, while the traditional roadway space between the trusses was reserved for steam rail. This feature is particularly unusual because it is an original design feature of the bridge. This sort of deck expansion is sometimes added to a bridge in later years, ….”

Are you going to eat all that? Salted caramel apple is my favourite 🤗 This little gal loves to 'help' me in the kitchen especially because she knows that athough she doesn't actually get a slice of pie, she gets lots of yummy squirrel dog treats which are great decoys 😋 I made this GF Salted Caramel Apple Pie (Canadian style) recently for our church's soup kitchen and I've been thinking it was time to make another apple pie since it's been pumpkin-spice everything lately. It's just a regular week for us here in Canada but I've been inspired by all my friends' beautiful thanksgiving apple pies I've been drooling over in my feed. So I'm making one of these again tonight for a friend & her family since she's in need of a good cheer- up. There's nothing like apple pie to make you feel better and de-stressify, right? It's better than yoga, a hot tub and chocolate put together. Wait that can't be right, scratch that last one (haha). I'm also experimenting with a dog-friendly pie tonight, so this little gal and her furry pals can take part in the pie-eating fun, too. Then we can celebrate Thanksgiving along with our American friends (I know, any excuse to eat pie haha). If it works out, I'll post the recipe. Wouldn't it be great if our furry pals could have their very own slice of pie? Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! 😃🐶🐾❤️#notfordogs#thanksgiving#puppylove#bakeitforward#applepie#thanksgivinglove#helpingothers#socialenterprise#neighbours#spreadthelove#randomactsofkindness#pie

"If we believe that artists must go to the world's largest cities in order to succeed, smaller communities lose an important aspect of growth, alternative thinking, and introspection, and artists lose their connection to the non-metropolitan world. We can spend our time wishing we were a bigger or more glamorous community, and in the meantime lose sight of what makes our community unique, and what our vision is to make it better.
Ottawa is a beautiful place to live, and it's full of smart people working on national issues and new technologies. What an interesting audience for artists to interact with!"
We participated in not one, but two Santa Clause parades in Ottawa this past weekend! Lots of fun was had by all, and we’d like to thank our @ottawa_paramedic_service partners for this opportunity every year!
