If you haven't been to Playa de Sotavento on Fuerteventura, you haven't seen the island!! It is the most gorgeous beach I have ever seen! I'm happy to say I now have a favourite beach :D
I was so impressed by the sheer size of it - it's unbelieveable! It's 600m wide and more than 4km long! I was walking and walking and walking and the people I saw were so far away.. Just dots on the horizon.. No soul around you front, back, left and right! And with those beautiful little water pools the beach is like a water park - I saw people of all ages having fun in them.. Floating on their water mattresses, chilling in the water like in a whirpool, and even kitesurfing there! There's even fish living in those puddles!! And during high tide, the whole place fills up with water and becomes this gorgeous lagoon (I have yet to experience that :D)!
I loved walking on this beach so so much! I began walking at hotel Meliá Gorriones and continued long after Playa de Sotavento.. Just before Playa Esquinzo I left the beach, otherwise it would have gotten too late.. I wanted to see Playa Esquinzo too but what can you do.. Girl's gotta catch her bus!! Next time then! I did walk more than 12km just on sand though - pretty epic!!
So: if you're on the island, DEFINITELY check out Playa de Sotavento!! My photo and words don't do it justice! Go, go, go!! 💙🏖
