Did you know that Down syndrome is the most common birth abnormality in the U.S? About 6,000 babies are born with T-21 yearly in the Unites States. The proper medical term for Down Syndrome is Trisomy 21 and is caused by an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. Resulting in 47 chromosomes in the DNA. Typical individuals have 46 chromosomes. 23 from each genetic donor. T-21 is not a disease and is not curable. The extra chromosome was built into the individual's DNA from the moment of conception. People with Down syndrome are completely unique. Each person's DNA is one of a kind. That is why there are so many different people with various abilities with T-21. Everyone with Down Syndrome is a person first! With speaking about people with Down syndrome say "person with Down Syndrome. Or baby with Down syndrome" NEVER SAY "down's person. Or Down's baby". Those are very offensive terms and people first language is always preferred. People are not defined by T-21! And it is not the only thing about them. Down syndrome is incredible!! #enjoythejourney#downsyndrome#t21#love#incredible#luckyfew#hollandtourguide#lifeisbetterwithyou#downsyndromeawareness#extrachromosomeextralove#sototallyworthit#ergonomiccrochethook#blueandyellow #💙💛 #downsyndromeawarenessmonth

Today, October 12 , Its been 1 year since this baby girl got her open heart surgery! We left her at the hospital at 10am and got THE call from the surgeon at 3:15pm saying that it was done and everything went well. She’s never been better! We are blessed to have her in our lives!

I love my son more than anyone can comprehend. He is my light, my joy, and my heart. I couldn't have asked for a greater kid. He is so smart and has surpassed many milestones. I would also like to say Thank you to our real support system, not the ones who come around for show or social media. I am my childs voice and will always be until he is able to fully speak for himself.

I love this little girl of ours. She cracks me up with her cheesy smiles, laughter and JOY. She will often get on giggling and laughing kicks and we all can't help but join in. This is national Down syndrome awareness month. And I will be honest, I wasn't "aware" when God opened our hearts to this JOY. When we lost David Tayten at 17 weeks pregnant from complications due to his heart failing, my heart broke. There was a time We felt like maybe God didn't think we were prepared for the work and blessings of a soul so precious. The younger girls healed that break. They are more than we could have imagined. More JOY. More fun. They are more eager to learn. More eager to help. More eager to love. More eager to share. More eager to try and succeed than we ever could have imagined. No. We were not prepared. We weren't ready for this life. We weren't aware. We didn't know that they are more alike than different. We didn't know that they can do everything our other children can, yes, sometimes on their own timeline and in their own way. But they shine. They rock that extra DNA and anyone that has the chance to know them is better for it. Not the least of which is us. They have opened our eyes. I try not to judge or get mad. In many ways we were as ignorant as much of the world. We thought we were doing a good thing, making sacrifices to our way of life for something better. HA! What a joke! We are better because of them. We are blessed because of them. We are smarter because of them. Gentler, kinder, more loving, more tolerant, more Christlike because of them. We have been humbled. Our eyes have been opened. Our God gave us a privilege and blessing. Not because we are worthy of it, we fall so short. But because through this gift, just maybe He can help us become more of what he wants us to become. #lifeisbetter#lifeisbetterwithyou#trisomy21#downsyndrome#upsyndrome#downsyndromeawareness#downsyndromeawarenessmonth#luckyfew#theluckyfew#morealikethandifferent
