I have a dream
to fill the golden sheath
of a remembered day....
heavy and massed and blue
as the vapor of opium...
fired in sulphurous mist...
quiescent as a gray seal...
and the emerging sun
spurting up gold
over Sydney, smoke-pale, rising out of the bay....)
But the day is an up-turned cup
and its sun a junk of red iron
guttering in sluggish-green water--
where shall I pour my dream?

Scorpions have exoskeletons and in growing, just like their cousins the tarantulas, need to undergo a process known as molting. Molting is the process wherein a scorpion grows it's new exoskeleton under the old one, partially absorbs the underlying layers of the old skin and then emerges from the old exoskeleton looking all shiny and new. It usually takes some time for the scorpion to recover from this molting process. The new exoskeleton is soft, and needs to harden (sclerotise) before the animal can resume eating, walking and other routine activities. Scorpions generally molt upright. Molting is a very strenuous and dangerous time for Scorpions.

I’m not really a fan of New Years resolutions, mostly because I’ve never been good at following them. Last year my stepmom introduced me to essential oils and taught me how to make kombucha (after explaining why it was so beneficial) + I promised myself this whole health thing was gonna stick. I’ve slowly started ditching all the toxic things I’ve accumulated in my home, and in 2018 I promised myself I was going to continue this journey. I’ve introduced myself to natural body products, cleaning products, and of course started learning how to incorporate eo’s into my daily routine. Yesterday I ditched my (apparently Teflon coated) pots & pans and switched to stainless steel, cast iron, and ceramic. Today I bought better soap. Who knew soap could be bad for you?! Apparently many of them are filled with parabens and other harmful ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate.
• Parabens are preservatives added to many personal care products meant to prevent the growth of bacteria and prolong shelf life. Exposure to parabens may lead to increased levels of estrogen in the human body and potentially increase the risk of cancer.
• SLS is a cleansing and emulsifying agent that is added to many personal care products to make them foam. In spite of being present in so many ingredients, nearly 16,000 studies mention its toxicity. SLS can lead to irritation of the skin and eyes, organ toxicity, developmental/reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, ecotoxicology, and biochemical or cellular changes, and possible mutations and cancer. • Forever learning + trying to be better. What are your favorite cleaning products/soaps/body products?
