I just realized that I did not show off my 🌿Monarch and Milkweed🌿 vase properly, there is so much going on! We have the full on monarch, the upside down lady laying eggs, the hungry little caterpillar, and the dangly chrysalis. Here it is in a million different angles 😉. In the new studio I hope to do more botanical designs over the dark chocolate clay body and on more forms. Like mugs!🌿🌿🌿
Peaceful corners in the beautiful art studio of the talented and lovely @zoeoliviayoung. Paintbrushes lying beside squeezed tubes of paint, sketches and inspirational photos hanging over the mantelpiece, and outside the barn door, the most loveliest of views over grassy fields and plum trees. Such a treat to have a peek inside this space today . ✨
I have massive big plans for 2018 and I hope you’ll be along for the ride.
One thing I want you to know about the future of merriweather is that we are elevating to new levels of service to you.
In 2017 we learned a lot and a lot of great things are happening in 2018 based on the clarity and learning that was uncovered this year.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the reason I wanted to incorporate teaching into my business is because of the immense pride and happiness my product based business has provided me with- especially when I had just graduated and was getting side eye all over the place for ditching grad school to sell embroidery hoops lol. And proving people wrong because YES YOU CAN. it feels crazy good to sell the work you love to make to people who love to buy it and support it. Being your own boss feels awesome. i wanted other people to feel that way about their work and their talents. That’s why I teach.
What I love most about teaching is that now, instead of building my own one business, I’m a small part of many successful businesses- and THAT also feels great but more importantly it plays to my bigger picture. In my ideal world art craft and design are understood and common and people don’t feel intimidated to buy art. And everyone loves shopping indie and it’s not an ocsssion it just is what we do. In my ideal world more people understand and value art and craft and the best way for that to happen is for more artists and craftspeople and makers to get out there with their work. My teaching you how to do that is a small part of my ideal world becoming reality.
My students have experienced crazy success, reveled in moments of serious clarity, loads of a-has happened, people unlocked their potential and saw results they did not think were possible - there were opportunities galore and we loved every minute of it.
In 2018 I’m planning to invest more self, time and resources into The Council (my members are 🎉😍🤩👌🎄) and explore more creativity with my hands as well.
I’ll be sharing more about what you’ll want to know about merri 2018 soon! Stay tuned!

Ohhh you know. 3am pie baking sesh. Because there’s a Christmas party tomorrow. And I accidentally fell asleep earlier. 😋 The baking time gave me the opportunity to slap on some festive polish though! And wind up some yarn for some DK Christmas socks! I really probably should have done a load of dishes instead but I mean..... priorities. 🤷🏻♀️😁💅🏼🎉✨🎄✨ #dishesshmishes#christmasyarn#piepiepiepiepie
Yesterday was spent glazing the last pots for Christmas. They've had time to dry over night and today will be put back in the kiln for a high firing over the weekend 😊
Each piece has a 'backstamp' generally Glosters, Porthmadog and initials. Tom is TG on some pieces like decorations you'll find different initials for Bethany or Emily, some thrown pieces have both TG and KL where Tom has thrown the piece but Kevin has trimmed the base and tidied the piece. If you're really lucky you'll find a rare MG on the odd occasion I've been let loose on pieces 😜
For 2018 we'll be changing the backstamp slightly to represent the year. This is so we can track pieces and can date them in the future. We have a log of all Toms previous backstamps and the years they where used so we know when they where made 😊
In January we said that we'd track all the pieces made and make a log so we knew exactly how many pieces had been made through the year... well unfortunately or maybe rather fortunately we lost count... but pieces made in the workshop this year are definitely in the thousands! They've traveled to all corners of the world, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, America! It's a strange feeling knowing Ceramics from our small workshop... in the centre of this small town, Porthmadog, are dotted all over the world 😊 .
A lovely cosy evening preparing Lavender and Chamomile travel candles ready to complete a number of orders, with some left over for Maltby regulars! (Couldn't resist lighting one just so I could blow it out, pop it's lid on and take it upstairs to my bedroom.) #travelswithmycandle S xx
