"This year has been a very exciting year so far. We have made a lot of technical changes that the women have really embraced and worked hard to adopt. Through that and our increased work in small boats we are seeing an increase in speed. We are all looking forward to the weeks ahead and how we do at Schuylkill. Our goal is to maintain all of our technical work against some top competition. It will be a great day of racing."
There was a time when I almost stopped going to the gym. I haven't done any sport before I started powerlifting. And I was so excited when I started! I just found my sport. But at my old gym there were some guys and coaches.. You know. I have these extremely long femurs. And squatting for me wasn't easy at all. It took some time to figure out how I should do it. I read a lot of articles and a book when I started powerlifting. About technique and mistakes. I knew that I wasn't doing some huge mistakes. But my technique wasn't perfect. But I don't think this was even the reason.
Every workout, guys came to me and criticised my technique and the whole way I was training. They were disrespectful. Sometimes they were angry. Sometimes they came after EVERY set. Sometimes there were up to 5 guys discussing with me. Sometimes the coaches even "joked" to kick me out. It got worse. At the end a discussion after every set wasn't unusual. There was just one coach, that listened to me. But he couldn't really help me.
And I couldn't take it. I wanted to do powerlifting for fun. And not to be harassed everytime I go to the gym. I'm so glad I changed the gym. At first there were some strange guys too. But now they remain silent, cause I really tried to make my point from the very first day.
So now I see all these women posting #metoo . And I experienced so much more stuff than that. But I just wanted to talk about this one. And since I mostly post powerlifting stuff maybe there are women following me, that experience sth. similar. #staystrong
What a weekend! Saturday was my Pro debut and I got 1st. It was and still is unreal! I’m so thankful for everybody that has helped me and been by my side through this road. @britfigures for my nutrition guidance and so much more for the past (almost) year, she is beyond amazing and words can not express how honored I am to have her in my life. @larshaw717 and @clshaw77 for being strong amazing coaches, believing in me, believing I could get stronger with each weight they’d add lol telling me to stop crying, the tough love, and to have more confidence in myself, I’m proud to be part of their team #teammbf . Not to mention they put on a pretty awesome show @alamoshowdown 💪🏼 My extremely patient and loving husband @noahmiles2010 for really just putting up with a bunch of my craziness.
