"A soul mate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise. Our soul mate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person. Our soul mate is the one who makes life come to life.” from The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach 🔑❤️🔑Need a wedding or anniversary gift? Or just wanna surprise your sweetie? I keep being brought back to this verse. Walking this morning I laid down my own burdens that I know are the enemies last hold on us. Walking has become my prayer closet. It's seeing these hills in every direction and every step and breath that He's strengthening and reminding me that He's there and all that I've tried to carry on my own- isn't mine. Rest my soul. Let God do what Only He can do!! Claim His Victory in your life as the daughter of the One True King!! And as those strongholds are broken off and God's allowed to be who He is, in my life- the Almighty, Jehovah, Jireh, Redeemer, Abba, Papa- the very nature of God is in me. My strength and my rock- my salvation is beautiful. Nothing to be wasted on worry!! So I am plowing deep in prayer, knowing He's listening!! I'm resting deeply in the truth that His plans and purpose cannot be stopped. I am holding deeper to the hope of His promises. I am not letting anything steal my Joy. I am a child of God and I have found rest. A daily, minute by minute choice that will change an entire legacy.
Thank You, for the flowers that come with thorns. Thank You, for the valleys in the climb to the top of the glorious mountains. Thank You, for the sunshine after the hardest rains. Thank You, for the strength to run again after being broken and brought to the end of me. I count it all Joy!! All that You have given and taken away, has made me who You designed. I'm grateful for the mercy and grace given always.
I'm forever changed.
Today if you feel like you're in a battle, I want you to picture yourself in a boxing ring. The enemy takes the first swing and hits you where it hurts, and just like a strategic boxer, he keeps hitting your most vulnerable place.
He doesn't pick a new spot to hit, he just goes for the place that he knows hurts you the most.
So what are you gonna do? Are you just going to let him hit you, fall to the ground, believing the lies, allowing him to fill your mind and heart with shame and pain and regret?
OR are you going to fight back, put your armor on and speak OUT LOUD the truth: "I am victorious in Christ. This battle is already won." Remember the enemy can only do ONE thing and that is lie to you. But you have been given the power to speak truth and to create that which brings life, something the enemy can't do. He can only create death. Which means we have the upper hand.
So who are you going to listen to today? Remember Jesus is in your corner. Cheering you on. Reminding you He already defeated this guy A LONG TIME AGO.
I think punching the enemy where it hurts sounds like a good idea today, don't you? Nothing hurts him more than hearing you declare the truth: "You are defeated. I am created in the image of the most high God and with the power of the Holy Spirit in me, I AM A THREAT TO YOU."
Enjoying the cool of the evening on my front porch. Thinking about life, and how I have a hard time loving the me God created me to be. I have even a harder time loving the me I've turned myself into. Yet, God can make beautiful things out of the dust...and there is hope for me yet. #beautifulthings#makingmenew
Jesus' lineage includes Tamar, Bathsheba and Rahab. All 3 gals had a colored past. Maybe you need to know that Jesus isn't threatened or offended by your past, it's why He came. So don't YOU be threatened or offended by it! Tell your story. Tell the story of how you died with Christ and embraced Him in your new resurrected life!
Someone needs to hear your story.
Someone needs to know what Jesus did and can do. He loves to use the foolish things to shame the wise. He loves a good story. His glory is written all over you. The moments where you couldn't, "BUT GOD" did. He was born into a family legacy of beautiful redemption. He was born to turn your darkness into His glorious light.
On the other side of your fear is FREEDOM, for yourself and for others!
The lie that we can't come to God until we've "got it together" holds us back, the shame binding our hands from reaching out to Jesus in our deepest time of need. The woman who grabbed the hem of Jesus was desperate for healing. 12 years of illness and being an outcast in her community, this woman was willing to do something unlawful for healing. She wasn't supposed to touch anyone because she was considered unclean. But her FAITH made her well. Not her favorite self-help book or religious tradition, but her belief that Jesus could heal her if she could just TOUCH HIM. Many people touched Jesus that day but this woman's faith healed her. Faith doesn't mean that we don't struggle, it means we reach out in the struggle and receive the help we need in order to keep believing. Don't wait until you feel like your faith is strong to reach out to Jesus, reach out to Jesus and let Him make you strong in your weakest places. Let Him remind you that YOU ARE HIS daughter. Stop Him in His tracks with your desperation. He isn't too busy for you. He's just a touch away from your new start.
I think sometimes as Christians we forget that Jesus came to take upon Himself all shame and condemnation and put it to death on the cross so that we would no longer tremble at the Accuser's threats of throwing stones at our failures.
It's pretty incredible when you recognize that Jesus is always standing beside you asking you "Where are they, Woman, does no one accuse you? Neither do I. So go and be free and leave this life for a new one, but this time you will have ME." She called Him "Lord" and everything changed. Let's learn from her story and apply it as our own. Look up from your circumstances and look into the eyes of your Lord who saved you from spiritual death. Don't allow the enemy to throw accusations at you or to throw stones at you that don't exist. "There is now no condemnation in those who are in Christ." (Romans 8:1)
And remember, the enemy is far more terrified of you than you'll ever know when you walk in the truth of who you are: Redeemed, Forgiven, Beloved, and FREE.
Yesterday I taught this story of Peter and Jesus walking on the water (Matthew 14). I have taught this message a few times before but last night I got a bit emotional in the middle of my message because I strongly sensed something I hadn't before. Jesus doesn't condemn Peter for struggling with doubt. He is not surprised, ashamed, threatened or disappointed when we have moments of wondering, "how am I going to get through this storm?" Instead He not only meets us where we are, He grabs us out of the water and walks back to the boat with us by His side. Jesus came to take on condemnation and shame, submitted Himself to the rejection and lies, and said it was finished on the cross. Don't allow the enemy to slander your Savior's work. Jesus didn't look at Peter with judgment when He said, your faith is small. He looked at his dear friend with great pride, after all who else got out of the boat? Peter may have been impulsive and a bit silly at times, but this man was brave, curious, active and engaged with His Savior. I imagine Jesus lifted him out of the waters saying, "Peter, I will always be here. Remember this moment. You just walked on water toward me! Let's continue to grow your faith in Me together. You will need an unwavering confidence in My love for you and the promise of My presence because Peter, get ready, son. I'm going to start my church with YOU!" (Matthew 16)
It has been a little over a month since I moved to NH... and everyday I find another piece of myself! I feel like the Little Mermaid getting her song back. So of course I had to write a blog post about it! Link in profile! #makingmenew#littlemermaid#findyoursong#findyourself
I don't think many of us fully understand what the true definition of brave is.
BRAVE: (1) ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage (2) to endure or face (unpleasant conditions or behavior) without showing fear.
Real bravery costs us something. It is stepping into a situation or season KNOWING and EXPECTING discomfort...but saying yes anyway.
It's not that we don't hear the whispers of worry and fear, it's that we refuse to listen. We are brave when we feel scared but do it anyway. We walk not by a power or confidence found by human means but by the Spirit (Romans 8:9). This kind of bravery was seen by the boys who walked into the fire because they wouldn't bow. Sure they were terrified, but look at their options. Stay and submit to idols or step into fire and gain their souls. Die and be with the Lord or step out of the flames without even a scent of smoke, with new stories to tell of the mighty God we serve (Daniel 3). I really want to be brave, don't you? But to say yes to the fire will take all of Him and none of us. We won't say yes to discomfort and danger. But we will say yes to Jesus.
I stood in over 100 degrees yesterday for a new headshot because my husband is an amazing photographer and I knew he could somehow photoshop the sweat mustache?! 😂🤣😭Happy Monday! Stay cool, people! 😎☀️🌵📷:@vanderweide_photography
Genesis 3:15 (MSG)
God told the serpent: “Because you’ve done this, you’re cursed, cursed beyond all cattle and wild animals, cursed to slink on your belly and eat dirt all your life. I’m declaring war between you and the Woman, between your offspring and hers.
He’ll wound your head, you’ll wound his heel.” 🙌🏻Artist: @ilsekleyn 🎨 #knowyourenemy#goodnews#wewin#ezer
Ever had one of those experiences where if you had just been more open and trusting you would have seen that where God was leading you was actually going to blow your mind?? He is so patient with us! Currently reading "The God-Shaped Brain" by Dr Timothy Jennings and my mind is blown by the concept that what was truly broken inside of us from the Fall is our preoccupation with feelings instead of what we KNOW to be truth. And the truth will set us FREE (John 8:32). So whatever you're feeling today, the Truth has made Himself known. And HE IS GOOD. Start with what you know: it is for your freedom that Jesus came to set you free (Galatians 5:1). He is the Great I AM and He is at work in you! #makingmenew
One of my favorite songs is called Tested Trust by worship leaders Fike & Dana: "Give me a tested trust. Give me a weathered faith
I want to know your love. I want to see your face.
Give me a tested trust. Help me to know you’re real.
Bigger than all I want. Greater than all I feel.
Dear Jesus, all that I am asking
Is that you’d come be near to me
‘Cause when life’s tides commence to crashing
that’s when I need proof, and seek to see the truth
in a tested trust.
Give me a tested trust bolstered by bread and wine
Yielded to seeking first the tapestry of your vine
Give me a tested trust. Teach me to just abide.
Even if I get lost, Spirit, be by my side." 🎶🎶🎶🎶To order a custom key with your word visit: MakingMeNew.com/shop or click link in profile 🔑❤️🗝
In our #whatsyourstory Bible Study this week, several women and I discussed this passage and how incredible it is that Jesus cares enough about us to meet us where we are while asking the question we most need to face. Some translations use the word "healed" or "whole" instead of "well." The definition of healing is: "the process of making sound or healthy AGAIN." The definition of wellness is: "the state of being in good health, especially as an ACTIVELY pursued goal." The definition of being whole is: "all, ENTIRELY." Both healing and wellness and wholeness by definition show us that God wants to restore us to where we were meant to be: being truly well with our souls; emotionally, spiritually, entirely.
The dialogue between this man and Jesus demonstrated to us how deeply He desires to see us walking in strength and victory in our lives and how often we need to have a moment of honesty with ourselves, "do we really want to be well?" If so, what needs to happen?
Jesus said "get up" to a man who had been lame for 38 years. Jesus speaks into the "impossible" areas of our pain and tells us to believe that HE can make us whole. But there is an action required through faith on our part. We must get up and walk away from where we've been sitting. Hope has come.
I'm going to shout it out loud for all of us today. Some days you resonate so strongly with the man who exclaimed, "Jesus! I believe! Help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24) These seasons, these detours, these waiting room places sure threaten to take it all out of us, don't they? But we step forward. We let Jesus open our hands (more like pry them open) into a posture of surrender. We know He is good. We've seen Him move mountains before. We do believe You Jesus and we trust You. Help us wait on You with peace and confidence. "Be still my soul, for the Lord is on your side."
My latest Bible study #whatsyourstory began yesterday with the Woman at the Well. If you think about how powerful her encounter was, it's mind blowing. A woman once convinced she was "less than" leaves her water pot and walks head high into her community to talk with the men. She tells them what happened to her when she met Jesus and they are intrigued. "What had gotten into this woman?" they must have said. Jesus lifts our eyes up to His and tells us He will replace our water pots with living water. He creates a longing inside only He can fill. Then He makes us brave with our story. We can't hold it in. We are Redeemed. We were worth the detour Jesus made because "He had to go to Samaria" on THAT day, for THAT woman, at THAT well. #makingmenew
We love seeing our key necklaces on so many precious people! This courageous gal Rebecca wearing our Master Lion key has SUCH a beautiful and amazing story of redemption! Follow her at @rebeccahalton 🦁❤️🔑 #makingmenew
One of my favorite keys with a most favorite word. Psalm 91:4 describes the faithfulness of God so beautifully: "He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection." (NLT) He is holding you, protecting you, surrounding you and defending you today. He is faithful to the end. Amen!
Made this beautiful gold key for a warrior sister @josaxton who made this word truly come alive for me this past year. Grateful for her ministry and boldness to encourage and empower women to follow Jesus and embrace their gifts! I was recently asked if I could fit the word SURRENDER on a key and James is awesome so he made it happen. After talking with God this last week, it turns out this particular key was meant for me. I'm so grateful for the dear friend who asked me to even consider stamping this word because little did she know how much I struggle to lay it all at His feet. Even just the beginning of this little key conversation shows the struggle I have faced, "will it fit here?" "can we make it work?" I feel like this key will remind me of the journey I have recently had with Jesus, to surrender to His hand because if I'm honest, I've recently been told that I don't "fit." But when I allow the Lord to speak the TRUTH over me, He sweetly reminds me that He made me, that He also didn't fit in, and I am encouraged once again that fitting in was never the goal anyway. Proclaiming His name and His kingdom to a broken world and clinging tightly to the hand of my Savior while using the other hand to wield a sword against the enemy, that's what I've been called to do in this life. So I surrender to You Jesus, though none go with me, still I will follow. You make me fit into your purpose and you make all things work out for my good and for Your glorious name.
I haven't blogged in awhile and my recent post explains why. Maybe God has quieted you a bit recently, too? Learning to embrace the season and the preparation that comes with the "next thing" God calls you to (link in profile) #makingmenew
The beauty who ordered this key has been through a lot in her life. It encourages me that she clings to the truth of being blessed by God even in challenging seasons. She knows who holds her in His loving hands. I'm grateful for the reminder tonight, too ❤️🔑
Been thinking about this a lot today. It's pretty incredible when you begin to speak words of life to your circumstances. When you begin to listen to the Truth. When you begin to tell the enemy that what he stole from you, you will take back with boldness and a purpose to your pain because Jesus redeemed the whole story. With the Word of God as my weapon and Prayer as my strength. Sometimes I forget that the enemy is terrified of the Jesus in me. The Holy Spirit's power terrifies him to the core. The only way he can defeat us is to lie to us about whose we are. I know for me, I start to bend beneath the weight of his accusations and threats when I should be accusing him and threatening him for how he would dare mess with a beloved daughter of a Father who gave everything for her to return home. I know who I was. But He bought me back. He ran to me. And the enemy knows it. So it's time to start acting like it. I'm taking my brokenness and declaring it as breakthrough. Who's with me?

Yeah, I know I got a bad reputation
Walk around, always mad reputation
But life moves fast, and if you blink, you gon' miss it
Miss the pain in the voice if you don't listen
Sittin' by myself at the lunch table
Wishing that I had some real friends but I knew that I didn't
I try to do my best, I don't fit in
I realize now, I'm a misfit
But what would you do in my position
When it all falls down and you're the one that it's hittin'
From a place so vulnerable where I'm coming from
About to break down I'm feeling so overdone
Lost my young boy, but joy showed up in the morning
And all of a sudden my burdens just weren't important
Got to live life, fly high where the eagles are
And me out here pointing where the steeples are
Yeah, been overlooked wishing they would notice you
Doing everything in your power to get a hold of you
Rejected by the world accepted by the Lord puttin' numbers on the board
And we're misfits 'til it's finished
And I love you and hope you get to hear this
This is for the cutters
Feeling like the old me
This is for the misfits
This is for the skate kids
Broke down zeros
Don't you forget
You are loved
Welcome to the Island of the Misfit Toys.
One day praying I told God I am the clay & you are the Potter, make my life to be like you, make me new. He told me I'm going to break you & transform you and it will make you cry and in the process you will be torn apart & through the fire you will be passing by. He told me, I want you to smile when everything feels wrong, I want you to worship instead of asking why. I want you to trust me and learn to forgive in this new walk.. These words to me were breath taking...
When God himself tells you..to smile when your hurting to worship in your wondering. #God#clay#potter#makingmenew#trials#love
