Recently two of our members made a trip to the Kiekberg/St. Jansberg area where several units of the 82nd Airborne division saw action during operation Market Garden. The area still shows impressive battlefield scars like a mortar grenade tailpiece, bullet- and foxholes and lots of shrapnel.
The backyard apricot tree is chock full of fruit this year. Last year was it's first year of fruiting and only got 3 fruit. Super pumped for this years crop. What fruit tree's are growing in your garden?
Claytonia and minutina ready to go in high tunnel #1 (Slytherin) for winter salads. We have 4 high tunnels, and yes, they are named after Hogwarts houses. ISO talented friends to make banners or plaques to hang outside of each one 😉
DIY Stirrup Hoe... hot on the heels of my DIY broadfork (three garden forks cable-tied together) comes a simple but effective weeding tool, especially for light sandy soils at market garden scale. Made out of a broken bandsaw blade, broom handle and hose clamps. Pulling in long sweeps toward you, it slices just under the weed barely disturbing the soil and leaving the roots in the ground where they belong, to break down and feed the soil microorganisms. This one is sized for weeding between quinoa and millet at 10cm spacings. Will make a couple more wider ones as well.
Look what happened at The Food Initiative today! Thanks to the volunteers from @graceclarksville for working so hard and helping us accomplish so much with #allforthecity . You guys are awesome! .
