'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'! #martinlutherking
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in Washington, DC's West Potomac Park opened to the public, six years ago today - 8/22/2011. I took this during my 2013 visit. #martinlutherkingmemorial #kingmemorial #mlkmemorial #martinlutherking #mlk #august22 #2011 #6thanniversary
-Where is the justice?
Now I have the answer...
-The justice is not natural processes and it's not being from the beginning of our world like day or night. The Justice this is what we create each day, this is our choice and will of our souls and hearts. The justice inside me, you...us

I Am Not Your Negro

Writer: James Baldwin
Director: Raoul Peck
Narration: Samuel L. Jackson

This Academy Award nominated documentary tells the story of race in America. I really loved this. James Baldwin’s biography, Remember This House, is used to narrate his story in regards to race, gender and sexuality, drawing out a political and historical lesson of America. It is such an eloquent expression, containing a vast amount of footage from around the 1960s and 1970s, in particular of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Medgar Evers. The framing of every shot was so carefully constructed and the impact was incredible and its transitions from black and white to colour was so effortless and powerful. The thing that probably stood out to me the most was that I was watching this within an Australian context. I was watching the film in an Australian cinema with largely an Australian audience. The reason I emphasis this so much, is because the audience I was amongst collectively responded to the film in the same way at different points throughout, whether it was shock, sadness, disgust, compassion, sympathy or fear. The audience was a diverse group of people from all ages (above 18) and ethnic backgrounds. This film really was a moving, insightful step back into history and the consequences of watching this within today’s context will surprise you.

“Eğer sizden sokakları süpürmeniz istenirse, Michelangelo’nun resim yaptığı, Beethoven’in beste yaptığı veya Shakespeare’in şiir yazdığı gibi süpürün. 😊

There is so much glory in this short clip by @joyannreid #AMJoy where #DickGregory jokes on #MartinLutherKing about jail time they are to serve for fighting school segregation in Alabama...Gregory, cool as ever, makes King laugh so hard that his shoulders almost shook off his body haha. They had fun with their activism but were still serious about the issues. Phenomenal men for extraordinary times.

One of the panelists on the show, #MarkThompson @ministter host of #SiriusXM's "Make It Plain" states his close relationship with Mr. Gregory as one where they talked often, since Thompson's early 20s...he found Mr. Gregory to always speak truth to power and tells the story of when Jack Parr, host of NBC's popular Tonight Show, asked Mr. Gregory to perform on the show Mr. Gregory said no. He told Parr the reason, "You don't let Negros sit on the sofa." And from that Jack Parr changed the policy and Mr. Gregory became the first African-American to sit on the sofa of the Tonight Show. The very show that today boasts an all black band, The Roots, playing whatever music they want...that's because of Mr. Gregory.

#Repost from @presleyaaronelvis with @regram.app ... "If I Can Dream" is a song made famous by Elvis Presley, written by Walter Earl Brown and notable for its direct quotations of Martin Luther King, Jr.. It was recorded by Presley in June 1968, two months after King's assassination. The recording was first released to the public as the finale of Presley's '68 Comeback Special. Steve Binder, who produced Presley’s 1968 television comeback special, has often recalled the origin of Presley’s hit “If I Can Dream.” Presley and Binder were looking for a way to end the show. The two had discussed Elvis’ dismay over the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. Binder was struck by the conversation and ordered W. Earl Brown, a songwriter working on the show, to come up with a song incorporating Presley’s concern to use as the finale to the show. Earl Brown said that when Elvis recorded the song, Brown saw tears rolling down the cheeks of the three back up singers.

Stopped at the Lorraine Motel, and watched the solar eclipse. Had some time to reflect on the state of our nation. Unfortunately, we lost Dr Martin Luther King, at this very spot, 50 years ago. And though he may be gone, his legacy lives on; as we continue to stand up for equality. Hate will not win!
