Autumn Equinox Mead in the making! This is our first experiment and we were waiting for a special occasion for the first batch. Bought a quart of local honey at the @frenchbroadfoodcoop, all the brewing equipment at @hopsandvinesavl, and all the herbs are from the garden (holy basil, sage, mint, rosemary) along with some medicinal wild herbs (goldenrod, mugwort, and wild lemon balm). We're infusing the herbs now to make a tea. Next step is mix the honey, and then add a small bit of commercial yeast. I debated using commercial yeast vs wild, but we're going with commercial for this first attempt, with the aspiration to try wild yeast soon. Also we're keeping a "sacred, healing, herbal fermented beverage log book" to keep track of our adventures. Stay tuned! ✨🍯🍷🌿
#mead#beer#craftbeer#beergeek#meadnewbie so I guess this is my first mead. Expected it to be a sweet, thick honey drink. But turned out to be a dry, crisp and thirst-quenching drink with subtle honey flavor. Nothing special about it, but I could drink this all day long.
So, had a pretty #shitty day at #work today, so I decided to buy some alcohol, because that's what adults do 😄😂 I like the mead. The first time I've had mead, it tastes like wildflower honey so hey, that's good. As for the bourbon whiskey, that was WAY better than I thought it was going to be. Smooth, sweet, and higher alcohol content than any other whiskey I've drank before. And it was only $12!? Definitely a keeper 😁
The server told me he only likes the Nai-Pè when it’s mixed with the Hammer Smashed Cherry so I saved a little bit of each. The Cherry tastes so much better, but I’d drink the Nai-Pè by itself. #bosmeadery#mead
I've spent a lot of time with beer this trip (shoutout to Guinness, Smithwicks 🙌🍻), but had endeavored to also find an Irish wine. That's no easy feat, as Ireland's lush climate is not generally conducive to growing grapes for wine. But today we visited #BunrattyWinery with the sole purpose of trying their mead, made from grapes, honey, and herbs. Despite being 14.7% alcohol (snap!), this "wine" is so smooth and sweet that you can barely tell (not like the now legal Potcheen also sold at Bunratty, which is a barley-based equivalent to moonshine 😳). Mead is the traditional drink of new brides and grooms, as the honey content was thought to have powers of virility and fertility. 💏 It was custom for newlyweds to drink mead for one full moon of their wedding, hence "honeymoon." An appropriate drink to toast our 4 year wedding anniversary with! ❤️🥂🍯
