What a big day. After getting skunked last year (and earlier this season with deer), today I shot my first Elk on #publiclands in Colorado. What an experience. Huge thanks are due to my hunting colleagues, Dr. David Irwin and @sirdpak. We sure earned our meat today/tonight 🙂. Also, big shoutout to @stevenrinella and his recent book on hunting, butchering, and cooking wild game. It sure helped this Kansas guy out, a lot. #meateater#weareuphillathletes
In 2011, @chefeduardogarcia was shocked with 2400 volts of electricity in a freak accident in Montana’s backcountry. Near death, alone and miles from help, Eduardo got up and took his first step towards what would ultimately be years of recovery and rehabilitation. On next week’s MeatEater Podcast, @stevenrinella talks with Eduardo about his story, elk hunting, and more. Check out the trailer, and click the link in our profile for more info. #MeatEater
Friday nights at the end of a long week call for ribeyes and a sun grown Liga Privada. 😋
I used to never be able to get the perfect “crust” on my ribeyes like they do in the restaurant when I grilled them at home.
The secret is to grill them for a couple minutes to raise the internal temperature some and then throw them in a hot pan on your stove top. I like to use a cast iron pan. I also prefer to do a simple dry rub vs a marinade with his technique.
I wish I could take credit for coming up with that on my own but I actually got it from watching @joerogan do this with elk steaks, thanks Joe!
Oh and do yourself a favor and pick up a Liga Pravada by @drewestatecigar next time you’re at your local shop. They’re a nice full flavorful smoke, perfect after a bloody steak 🥩
Cheers to the weekend my friends 🍷🍷🍷
Started my day with dads and donuts with my favorite fifth grader, and wrapped it up with delicious venison tacos and homemade mango salsa, accompanied by @2rowbrewing breakfast stout and Neil Young on the stereo. And it’s snowing. ❄️ The weekend couldn’t be off to a better start. #meateater#nocktofork#noforkneeded
