This is a great movement which works on explosiveness in both the frontal plane (1️⃣) and the transverse plane (2️⃣). This is an excellent movement for athletes because it is performed in a split stance position which more closely mimics a position seen in most sporting events so it has good carry over to the athletes sport which is paramount when training athletes. The split stance also helps decrease strength imbalances between limbs that can often be seen in bilateral movements. .

In the first half of the video, the athletes can be seen performing this movement with one slam to the outside of the foot that they will be bounding off of. .

The end of the clip shows a progression of the movement where the athlete now slams the ball twice, once on the inside and once on the outside of the leg, before bounding. .

The last month we have implemented much more explosive movements. Jumps, both assisted and unassisted. Med ball throws. And using the PUSH band (@trainwithpush) to measure the velocity he is moving the bar. The PUSH band helps keep him accountable for how fast he is moving and allows us to see how many sets we can do, it takes the guesswork out of working out.

Everything you see in the video is just a small picture of the work Calvin has put in. He has spent countless hours on mobility, arm care, stretching and many other lifts. He has done everything he can to prepare for Jupiter, now it’s just time to go compete and have fun.

I’m a firm believer that being able to throw and catch weight is a great way to improve athleticism vs just relying solely on weight training in a gym. Here are just a few ideas of what to do with a med ball. 
I do the first one, I call them touchdowns, all the time with my clients. Uses the whole body and keeps things fun! 
Overhead circles and squats with med ball toss are also fun just keep in mind that you can use varying weights and ranges of motion. 
Tummy strong and be mindful of you form. 
Of course...super important ... walk off like a boss at the end 💥
