💆🏼♀️ taking care of yourself:
there were days i came home from work almost crying because i used to have really serious muscle tension in my upper body from working on a computer all day.
i didn‘t really know what to do against the pain except quit my job which wasn‘t really an option obviously 😏
so i started going to a medical massage therapist once a month on a regular basis (as well as physical therapy for a few weeks) and about 1 year later i feel SO MUCH better 🤩
taking care of your body is not a luxury, it is an absolute necessity!
Sites and symptoms associated with brachioradialis pain: back of the forearm near the elbow, back of the hand at the base of the thumb, pronounced when you twist your hand, numbness on the thumb side of the hand, weakness in grip strength. Note: not tennis elbow.

📸@upperparkcrossfit “I was battling hip and knee pain during the 2017 CrossFit Open. So after the open I decided to take about two weeks off to let my body recover. Figure everything should heal by then and I’ll slowly get back in to training . After that, months went by with sign of my hip feeling better. If anything it felt worse. So like most of us might do, I just decided to ignore it and continue forward with training. Big mistake. It lead to no longer being able to squat for a little over a month because the pain was unbearable. So after 10 months of ignoring my problem I decided to take the plunge and go see Tanya and Ryan over at Thumbworks Sports Massage. BEST. DECISION. EVER. After 3 sessions with Tanya I am now able to get back to squatting with ZERO pain. No longer would I have to worry about this nagging hip pain that would linger in my mind every time I went to pick a barbell up. The body is healed. The mind is clear. Now it’s time to get back to work PAIN FREE. So long story short do not do what I did. If you have a similar story to mine, or maybe something that just started acting up, go see @thumbworkssportsmassage you will not regret it. Thank you @thumbworkssportsmassage for your service. Onward...” -Josh Bory (Co-owner & Coach)

We had a great day on our Tui Na Diploma yesterday. Students learnt two new techniques: Ba Shen Fa (traction) and Shen Zhan Fa (assisted stretching). These techniques help create space and reduce stagnation and can be applied to the joints: neck, shoulders, knees, elbows, wrists, hips, fingers, toes. 💪🏻✋🏻👊🏻👐🏻🙌🏻 #tuina#chinesemedicine#TCM#students#massage#medicalmassage#college#JCOM

✴️Muscle knots = myofascial trigger points, or small patches of tightly contracted muscle in isolated spasm. ✴️Trigger points can be very painful, causing far more discomfort than most people believe is possible. They are a key factor in headaches (including migraines), neck pain, low back pain, and much more. ✴️Not only can trigger points cause pain directly on their own, but they can also complicate injuries overshadowing real issues, and mimic other problems such as repetitive strain injuries. Vicious. 👹
When four hours of a chemistry lecture and another two hours of massaging finally catch up to your brain but you're still trying to make note-taking fun. Here's to doodles that aid retention, even if they aren't quite right... 😂 I need some sucrose right about now (preferably in an extra hot dirty chai 😋☕) #studysession#wellness#medicalmassage#studiousdoodles
Ever had a doctor tell you, "there's nothing wrong with you, we didn't find anything" ..but you're hurting, so wth?!
Many factors contribute to pain, not only tissue damage. ANY information that you have that tells you and your brain that it needs protection, will increase your sensitivity to feel pain. Pain and discomfort is helpful, it tells us when we are in danger, or if we need to change something. But it's very frustrating if the alarm isn't needed, yet still goes off.
Just like how a 90's song🎶 brings nostalgia, or interacting with someone you don't like irritates you and effects your day, or perhaps the rainy weather makes you feel calm and happy☺. Our environment does the same with pain. Many factors can trigger and attribute to pain well after tissue condition has healed.⬇️
•Beliefs about your pain
•Worry and Anxiety
•Lack of support
•Loss of enjoyable activities
•Fear of movement
•What other health professionals have told you in the past.
•Seeing x-ray images
So next time your feeling pain or discomfort out of nowhere, or you keep experiencing a feeling of "tightness", and tons of stretching isnt helping, examine these other factors to see what may be contributing to you pain🤔
👉At ThumbWorks we do not just stop at soft tissue like many others do. We look closely at how and why the nervous system might be on over drive, to see what could be triggering your pain, and help educate you, as a result you feel empowered and realize you do have a lot of control over your body.🙌
➡️Click link in bio, or go to the site thumbworksmassage.com and use code "november17" to get $20 off your 60 mins session. Or book with our new therapist Daisy to receive a special rate of $60 for 60mins. #MoveBetterPerformBetter
"WTF IS ON YOUR BACK?!" Here's a not so glamorous picture, but don't be alarmed, the marks are from a treatment of cupping and medical massage 💆🏻(<< not quite this relaxing!) Cupping/ the place I visited, was recommended to me by a client who swears by this practice and believed my congestion could be relieved by the treatment. I'm not normally one to buy into this kind of stuff, but you can't knock something till you've tried it right?! It is known to release toxins from the body, relieve cold and flu symptoms as well as help to reduce stress and anxiety. The darker the circle signifies an imbalance in a specific area of my body. Yes, the circles look bloody awful, but they aren't painful and hopefully my body will reap some benefits. I actually already feel less congested!🙈
Has anyone ever tried it?! Ps. Anyone + clients, please don't be alarmed by the marks through my vest top, I'm fine!! 😝
