It's Saturday๐Ÿ˜โœŒ๐Ÿค—!!! Friends, I'd love to share  some of what I've learned with you about failure... I have failed more at things in life then most people. I find it a priveladge. I've embarrassed myself, by cynical standards, as I've tried to adventure through life. Depending on whose eyes you look at yourself, that's how you see yourself. 
You can be your harshest critic or greatest supporter. Laugh at yourself- I promise you someone has already walked in those embarrassing shoes before you and: a brave moment that went wrong will never define you. Don't let a moment of failure hold you back from trying to live a full life. You learn more and laugh harder when you try push your comfort zones. You also meet new friends who are trying to live their fullest life too. They inspire you and challenge you to be the best version of yourself.

One such woman is my new friend @frequentlyeats. She captures health, not only in flavour, but in photos too. She has let me share yet another of her fab creations.

I may be completely wrong but my theory of what's gone wrong is this... ๐ŸŒŸ I've been colonised by a bacterial species that's either 'bad' or, has just overrun due to the conditions of my gut. ๐ŸŒŸ This could be due to a lack of competing species, or just the acid/alkaline balance has changed (aging? Hormones? Stomach acid levels? Digestive enzymes?) to create the perfect environment for that species. ๐ŸŒŸ They're starch eaters (my intolerances). ๐ŸŒŸ And when they feed on starch they multiply and produce (either D lactic acid or) histamine? ๐ŸŒŸ  My immune system either sees these species (in increasing numbers) or their by-products, as a threat and reacts with redness and swelling. ๐ŸŒŸ My nostrils swell, nose produces mucus to get rid of the invader, and I can't breathe. ๐ŸŒŸ I also get constipation, so they're methane producing bacteria. ๐ŸŒŸ It has learned this threat by whatever mechanism, but now can't forget it.๐ŸŒŸ I'm no gut or microbiome specialist & I've never had my gut species mapped, but I've a feeling THIS is what's going on. ๐ŸŒŸ Current belief says you should both starve the bacteria by avoidance (no symptoms) and crowd them out with probiotics and fermented foods. Both approaches make sense... but I have such a state of dysbiosis that as soon as I take probiotics I get SIBO! (And as I said in my last post, I'm terrible at avoidance despite all my efforts at it!) ๐ŸŒŸ So, I've tried supplements to try & target this species; herbal antibiotics like garlic, peppermint, olive leaf extract, black seed oil, lemongrass, cloves, herbs... but they're not taking the bait! ๐ŸŒŸ And then there's this: Results of a new Murdoch Childrenโ€™s Research Institute study are the first to prove a long-term ability to suppress the allergic reaction to peanuts, by combining a gradual introduction of the dangerous foods with high-dose probiotics... in other words combining high doses of probiotics with peanut protein oral immunotherapy. ๐ŸŒŸ I don't know how I do that at home when I don't know which species I need to target, or take, and the SIBO... but at least in theory this is what I need to do. Maybe I need to go in via the exit, with a fecal transplant! Just gotta find me a donor... ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm SO BAD at avoiding my intolerances; starch & thickeners, (but its not intentional!) ๐Ÿ‰ So far I've figured out that these are: All grains & by-products. Potatoes & by-products. Beans & by-products. Lentils, chickpeas, chestnuts, peas, figs, agar, tapioca, alginate, chocolate & sparkling mineral water. ๐Ÿ‰ I often accidentally eat them contained in things when I travel and eat out... Hidden ingredients like the thickeners in almond milk, hummus or cream cheese. The rice in wasabi, green tea or kimchi get me often... and it seems like only a few days go by before I've consumed another, and another, and my symptoms cascade. ๐Ÿ‰ For a year and half I've done an elimination diet. Figuring out what sets me off was easy-ish (once I realised it was food). Avoiding them is not. And throughout my year and half I don't think I've managed to do a full month of not consuming them. ๐Ÿ‰ Like right now I'm suffering because I ordered an Indian curry - no rice no bread no flour - but it had peas in it! ๐Ÿ‰ So my new mission is to do a month solid of NO INTOLERANCES! ๐Ÿ‰ I'm tired of suffering. I want to breathe. I want to do a month with no setbacks... maybe two or three months... but one to start! ๐Ÿ‰ I need to do it without having to reset my DAY ONE over again like Groundhog Day. No cheats. No mistakes. Not one single one. Is that possible? Very hard! But not impossible! ๐Ÿ‰ This is day 4... And I'm currently still suffering the symptoms from the peas, but will be over them in two more days... And then I'll be clear of symptoms. Dr. Pinaki Panigrahi from the University of Nebraska has found that Lactobacillus plantarum, initially found in the diaper of a healthy baby in India, has been shown to reduce risk of sepsis in newborn babies by 40% & an added bonus was the 30% reduction in respiratory problems. The babies were fed the probiotic for a week and the trial was so successful they stopped it and began administering it to all babies. Luckily it is a cheap therapy which jump starts the babies' immune systems, producing a compound that strengthens the walls of the intestine to prevent further infection. It also positively affects the balance of bacteria in the newborn gut. More study needs to be done on premature babies and those at increased risk, but sepsis in newborns is so dangerous and widespread that this is a huge breakthrough. Congratulations to the hard working doctors and researchers who have made this happen after decades of work.

Got my hair done today & immediately afterwards, I had to pause. I didn't realize how long & thick it has become. ๐Ÿ’๐ŸผMy hair has NEVER been this long! Dr. Pinaki Panigrahi from the University of Nebraska has found that Lactobacillus plantarum, initially found in the diaper of a healthy baby in India, has been shown to reduce risk of sepsis in newborn babies by 40% & an added bonus was the 30% reduction in respiratory problems. The babies were fed the probiotic for a week and the trial was so successful they stopped it and began administering it to all babies. Luckily it is a cheap therapy which jump starts the babies' immune systems, producing a compound that strengthens the walls of the intestine to prevent further infection. It also positively affects the balance of bacteria in the newborn gut. More study needs to be done on premature babies and those at increased risk, but sepsis in newborns is so dangerous and widespread that this is a huge breakthrough. let's talk GI health. especially for people that consume a lot of food like myself it's important to keep gut health on point. these are the things i use. unpasteurized sauerkraut (or other fermented veg, e.g. kimchi), greek yogurt and obviously probiotic supplements contain live cultures. raw apple cider vinegar contain enzymes that supposedly have digestive benefits (hard to find literature proving it to be fact but i use it anyway). also, i use a greens powder, fiber supplement, and VEGETABLES (bbers don't eat enough) to promote favorable gut bacteria and to "keep things moving ๐Ÿ’ฉ" for lack of a better term. If you're not digesting/absorbing nutrients efficiently you won't operate or grow the way you want and you'll prob be left feeing bloated and all around crappy. Additionally, your immune system is dependent on the microbiome found in your gut AND much of your body's serotonin is produced here which affects mood amongst other things. make sure the insides feel good so the outside looks good ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just gained 4" around my waist in about 1h. I added a tsp of coconut oil to my coffee to try to keep my calorie count up and this was the result. I...I'm giving up, you guys. I can't keep doing this: the pain, the nausea, the #bloating, the difficulty breathing because of the bloating, the pills, the tinctures, the thousands of dollars spent on #naturopathy and parking and practitioners... I see these everywhere, every year. These little weeds that grow in the cracks of pavement or in dry patches in a field. These are Plantago major. Also known as plantain weeds. 
They literally can grow anywhere and are so hardy that most people find them a nuisance, but as I'm always on the lookout for the next gift from nature, I started to wonder what they can do for us. 
Turns out that they can be extremely beneficial!  Searching on pubmed brings up many research articles on it's anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitumour and wound healing properties!  It has been used in traditional healing recipes for ages and can also be used to heal insect bites and rashes. 
It is supposed to have a taste similar to spinach with a little more bitterness. It is loaded with vitamins and minerals, although you should take care with choosing specific times for each part of the plant. 
Now should you go pick a plantain out of a crack and start munching away?  Probably not. Most are sprayed with herbicides. But could you grow this in your garden?  Most definitely! We need to start looking at these "weeds" in a different light and start diversifying our diets to include them.
