San Francisco was the meeting place for researchers and attendees from all over the world at the Brain-Gut Axis Summit 2018.
Salviana had the opportunity to attend and meet great people who dedicate their lives to education and awareness about the amazing microorganisms within our bodies that need nurturing through better nutrition.
The focus was the impact of our Microbiome in our overall health and it’s connection to the brain and diseases.
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: This is a developing area of medicine. There are more animal & human studies showing that many substances (like artifical sweeteners) are metabolized by the bacteria in the gut, which in turn, produce harmful substances. There are many links of this nature to weight gain, obesity & diabetes. One example: the gut bacteria breakdown choline (found in red meat) into a substance called TMA. The liver uses TMA to make TMAO; high levels of TMAO can block the heart arteries & cause heart disease. What’s 1 way to solve this problem? Avoid or limit red meat! No red meat ➡️ no choline for gut to breakdown ➡️ no TMAO ➡️ decrease risk of heart disease.

Didn't think I looked so bad a year ago but seeing some differences now. We went for a walk today and there was such a difference between the busy streets of Tokyo... and the calm birdsong of the forest. 😍🌳💕 Nature appreciation is a thing in Japan, known as 'Forest Bathing' or 'Shinrin-Yoku' (basically just being in the presence of trees), it became part of a national public health program in Japan in 1982 when the forestry ministry coined the phrase and promoted topiary as therapy. 💕 The practice is proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing. 💕🌳🌳🌳
I've been practising mindfulness here in Japan. Walking taller. Sitting straighter. Eating with awareness. 🙏 Eating is the hardest part, as I have a tendency to wolf down my food with gusto! So, I'm trying to slow down, and chew! 🙏 Walking has been amazing as I've discovered muscles I haven't used in a long time! Glutes firing. Chest open. Back straight. 🙏 Very Zen. 💕

Let’s face it: -You’re not in pain because of an ibuprofen deficiency. 🤕
-You’re not sneezing because of an antihistamine deficiency. 🤧
-You’re not awake all night because of an Advil PM deficiency. 😳
-You’re not having indigestion because of an antacid deficiency. 😦
-Your skin is not itchy and dry because of a lotion deficiency. 😩
