After 3 days of clouds, we finally saw the aurora in all of its power. It was an indescribable event, and I now understand why the Vikings called it the sky bridge between the gods and earth. The lights felt alive.
“Rockies Blue Glow” My first time walking on a frozen lake was an experience I will never forget. The sounds the ice makes had me cringing. It was truly amazing. Thanks @ramtin.kazemi.photography for showing me around. Can’t wait to go back!
Anza Borrego Desert State Park was just officially recognized as an International Dark Sky Park! Since that's really exciting news, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite photos from the park (check my story for a few others!). It's awesome to have an area that works to protect the night sky so close and accessible.
This multi-image pano was taken near Coachwhip Canyon using a star tracker to shoot longer exposures at a lower ISO.

From Thomas about this image:
I've been longing for a winter shot lately and just in time for Friday night last weekend winter finally arrived. Along with the cold temps skies usually clear up. I was really happy to see that happening once again.
The astronomical night starts around 6PM so I had packed my gear to head out directly after work. Unfortunately I forgot to pack down my head lamp.
Lesson learned, from now on I will keep an extra in the car at all times.
Since this location is an archipelago, there are islands everywhere with small roads and bridges connecting them. Finding a suitable spot isn't very difficult and this shot is taken is taken right off the road where I parked.
The snow in the foreground is illuminated by natural light only but I've increased brightness in postprocess with Photoshop.

-Plotinus declares that fire is the most beautiful physical thing, “making ever upwards, the subtlest and sprightliest of all bodies, as very near to the unembodied. … Hence the splendour of its light, the splendour that belongs to the Idea” (Plotinus, 22 [Ennead 1.3]). For Plotinus as for Plato, all multiplicity must be immolated finally into unity, and all roads of inquiry and experience lead toward the Good/Beautiful/True/Divine.- Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
The observable Universe is about 13.8 billion years old. It's apparent diameter is around 93 billion light years, and it’s is still expanding.
The Universe is partly made up of an estimated 200 billion Galaxies, each of which can contain billions of Stars.
