Mommies do you have a nighttime routine with your little ones? Or even your not so little ones? Lately we've been trying to go to bed a little earlier so we wake up happier and have better mornings. So we read a chapter from uncle wiggilily and have a 10 minute cuddle sesh. Last night I didn't get home until after 10 and when I went to go say goodnight June was still up playing on his iPod. Naturally I was like babe come on, you should be sleeping by now; and his response was "but I was waiting for you to read our book" so I went and grabbed the book and had him pick out the chapter he wanted to read, and right after I finished he wrapped his little arms arou and me and wad asleep within 3 minutes.... Went back to no grains this week and no diary and have slept the BEST I have in over a month! Crazy how food can fuck us up and heal. .
Nice jolt of caffeine here and a crazy workout and off for a FUN day of treasure hunting, fence building and HOMECOMING for my youngest! .

Yesterday was not a day for the books. Last night's chapter of "Surviving Motherhood with Teens" ended with the heroine of the story desperately grasping to her last shreds of hope and wondering if she'll make it out alive.
This morning I am reflecting on the days, weeks, months and even years to come. Someday, these teen blow ups and meltdowns will be a mere blip on my radar. But I like to keep it real, so lemme just say that for now, this uncharted territory is really throwing me for a loop! I read a quote last night that said, "There is pain between expectation and reality." Woah. Ain't that the truth. Because the expectation is that since God called me to this vocation, if I remain faithful to Him, the children, my marriage, my household...we'll all thrive together. The reality is, this job can be very lonely. Even when your fellow mama's are going through their own motherhood heartaches, your own sorrow is so unique. Falling short of meeting the expectations can be excruciating. And even clinging to God's promise of fulfillment can seem tiresome.
Waking up to the sound of rain was oddly comforting. I was reminded that each day begins anew. My tears are washed away by God's grace. So what if my eyes are swollen and puffy today? My heart, although it still aches, is refreshed with love. Love, love, love. Because even when my decisions and actions fail me as a mother, my love never fails. •

Comfort food that doesn't add to your waistline? Heck ya!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 This skinny Veggie Crockpot Lasagna is packed with good-for-you veggies and super easy to make. Just put it in the crockpot and you’ve got dinner!
INGREDIENTS (2) 24 ounce jars or cans of Italian tomato sauce (see notes)
9 thick lasagna noodles with wavy edges (mine were called bronze cut)
24 ounces part-skim ricotta cheese OR cottage cheese
3-4 cups chopped vegetables of choice (I used kale)
2 cups shredded Mozzarella or Provolone cheese
Parmesan cheese for topping
fresh parsley for topping
Spray the crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. Spread 1/2 cup tomato sauce to the bottom so the noodles don’t stick.
Break noodles so that they fit and mostly cover the bottom. They will probably be awkward looking – not a big deal. Cover with about one third of the ricotta, veggies, sauce, cheese, and end with noodles. Repeat layers two more times for a total of three complete layers. End with a layer of noodles on top, covered with a thin layer of sauce and a little bit more shredded cheese.
Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5-6 hours. Turn the crockpot off completely and let the lasagna sit for at least one hour. This allows all the moisture to get soaked into the lasagna, and if you don’t do this it will probably be more like lasagna soup – still good, but not pretty. Depending on how long you let it sit, you can either scoop pieces out or just cut with a knife like normal lasagna.
I woke up grateful. Grateful for the blessings, grateful for the lessons. Grateful for the opportunity to create an everyday awesome kind of life. Grateful for my amazing family and the time we spend together. Grateful for the ever expanding web of friends. Grateful for the ability to continually improve my health and live in a state of wellness. Grateful for the passion and opportunity to help others do the same.
