Pranayama. The 4th limb of Ashtanga Yoga is Pranayama, alternatively translated as “extension of the breath”. By using different breathing techniques one learns to control and slow down the breath. This has many health benefits since it exercise the diaphragm and purifies the lungs and heart which ultimately purify the blood. It also calmes your mind and makes you more relaxed.
There are many different techniques such as Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing, explained on the picture), the energising Kapalbhati (forced rapid exhale and passive inhale) or the simple yet profound exercise of Ujjayi where the in and out breath can be extended little by little over time.
Gregor Maehle has written an excellent book on the subject called Pranayama The Breath of Yoga.

What makes you smile: I'm a naturally happy person, I am lucky to have lots of things to smile about!
No this is not me pulling off some super cool move or new trick. This is me making mistakes, because well I'm human after all.
Life doesnt always go to plan, especially when you are out playing a big game and pushing yourself.
I make mistakes, constantly question and doubt myself, tell myself I'm not good enough, say one thing and do another and so on all of the fricken time.
It often takes a whole lotta courage to give myself compassion and forgiveness for when things, like this failed handstand, don't work out.
Here now, I'm reminding myself that things aren't always going to be perfect, and that it's totally ok to make mistakes.
Its all part of the beautiful process of life that helps us to learn, grow, love and forgive ❤
This is the beauty of learning to let it go and relax as part of self care. Yin yoga is about learning how to find your edge in a pose and then settle into the sensation. It's about learning to be still and allow the mind to quiet. Sometimes the pose is BIG and the discomfort is palpable. Sometimes the pose is soft and the discomfort becomes all in the mind. Either way the process of letting go and being in the moment is beautiful and healing and a critical part of the physical fitness routine that we often ignore. Failed a few times this morning but got back on it!
Sometimes you just need to fall dust yourself off and look at a different way to get the work done.
