Salome and her dance have been topics of literary and artistic works for centuries, it was the seductive beauty of her dance, that led to John’s beheading. However, the story’s basic origins provide little to suggest that was the case. In the Gospel she is nothing more than a tool in the drama of John the Baptist’s martyrdom. In the Middle Ages she was part of his story. At the same time, however, she was also widely used as a cautionary example to shape and reinforce a cultural view of women and their place within society
When the shifting cultural and artistic norms of the Renaissance placed increasing emphasis on beauty and individuality, the stereotype of Salome as a purely evil destroyer transformed into the image of a beautiful muse
In the 19th century, Salome became a symbol of the dangerous and seductive woman who, once allowed to gain social power, would destroy man. Her image served as an inspiration for artists, poets and writers, who used her and her story to create new myths based partly on her existing reputation and partly on their own imaginations and philosophies
From the book ‘Salomé: The Image of a Woman who Never was’ by Rosina Neginsky -
a compelling study of the history of the myth of Salome, the roles that art, literature, theology and music played in that creation, and how Salome's image as evil varied from one period to another according to the prevailing cultural myths surrounding women

Today’s spooky Canadian location is the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, one of the worlds most photographed hotels. The castle-like hotel was built in the 19th century by William Van Horne, General Manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The hotel soon became part of opulent hotels in cities along the CPR’s line from coast to coast. However, the hotels most famous and active resident is France Governor Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac. As the hotel was built partially where the Counts home sat, legend has it that he wanders the hotel halls, sits on windowsills or floats through the ballroom dressed in his 17th century garb.

Coming tomorrow - #vampires !
With #Halloween drawing close, I have been thinking about #superstitions even more than usual (yes, that is indeed possible... 😁). Halloween, or rather, its precedent #Samhain , features some of the most compelling festivals and beliefs. My favourite is the old tradition of lighting a candle (or even a larger fire) that has been with us since before Christianity. The idea was that the spirits of the dead were around as the worlds met and as it was cold, the fire was there for them to warm around. I kind of love the way this is empathic and emotional. So we're going to be doing Halloween themes and we'll be starting with vampires tomorrow. 😊
I love reading folklore from around the world! It really opens your imagination. You feel so connected to the past it's so beautiful. Obviously, the children books are way more fun! #myths#folklore#ancient#childrensbooks
~ Kingdom Of Ultimate Happiness ~
Every age has legends, myths and stories about man's attempts to reach God. While it is said that the tower of Babel could never be completed because God made it impossible for humans to communicate with each other, by making them speak different languages, there is one story that focuses on how humans couldn't reach the Kingdom of ultimate Happiness because of an epidemic. It is said that at one point in the history of mankind, when all human endeavours could have been directed towards the betterment of their own kind, a mysterious wave of mental illness spread through humanity. Medical historians of the later centuries would come to refer to this illness as Egosatisfactrum Democrestruction (commonly known as Egodemon). It is believed that the people in control of wealth and power at the time were the worst affected. They started commissioning projects that had nothing to do with reaching the promised heavenly state. For example, a tall structure in the shape of a human being but, with no stairs to reach God, a long and beautiful tunnel built with slippery floors which only a few people of the society who had the costly suction shoes, could afford, an around-the-world travel car which would accommodate only the ones with a lot of weight and no slim people. The projects were as costly as useless they were. The general population thought that they were going to be happy and their neighborhood, great again. Little did they know that they were becoming part of an idiotic story.
You're laying in bed half asleep, half awake and see something out of the corner of your eye. Did that shadow just move? No, that's silly. Shadows don't move. But, then again...it really seemed like it moved...there it is again..but closer...and closer. It's our ANNUAL HALLOWEEN SHOW and it's time to talk Shadow People! Shadow people are thought by many to be conscious, intelligent, interdimensional beings that can move in and out of our dimension at will. And these bad boys aren't here just to play canasta. They are reported to paralyze their victims, drain them of energy, and do much, much worse. We go hunting in the dark to find out more. Plus, we play some of our favorite clips from Halloween movies (fun!). Conspiracy Bot gets legs (bad idea!). And the show is joined by JP Doyal of Just Paranormal (horrible idea for him!). All of that and more on the podcast that doesn’t always see shadow people, but when we do it means 6 more weeks of HALLOWEEN - Hysteria 51.

Let's debunk this myth once and for all! 👏🏾It is unlikely for a tampon to get lost in there. A vaginal canal is approximately 3-5 inches long and ends at the cervix. Tampons will not and cannot enter the cervix!
“Don't be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” -Rumi
We’ve been studying the mythologies of gods and goddesses this month, but what about our own mythologies? What stories have you been telling about yourself? Which ones can you let go of? And what about the ones that have yet to be written?
Let’s explore our own divinity on the mat this week, family. Link in bio for the full class schedule.
An A-Z of Monsters and Magical Beings Written By Aidan Onn and Illustrated by Rob Hodgson 🐉
From Aliens to Zombies, learn about monsters and magical beings from around the world in this entertaining and informative alphabetical guide. The book explores legends from different cultures, providing a well rounded exploration of myths and creatures (many of which we had never heard of before!) The uniquely drawn illustrations add a personality to the monsters and beings, as well as a little insight into their worldly surroundings. I was a bit worried about reading this with Hunter as I didn’t want it to scare him, but the way that the book is written it takes away the fear by adding in humour and strategies for defeating the monsters if need be 💪🏻 The Book was quite the hit, being requested again the following night! 📖
