What do you do when you have a five hour drive and ten hours to kill? Lots and lots of road trip detours, of course. 🚘🌵I found myself deep in the Mojave desert as the sun was setting. Already a highlight of this trip and it's hardly even begun!
Thanks to great extended family I was able to witness the majesty of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri during our Hurrication. Words and pictures alone cannot describe the magnificence of this feat of engineering and human perseverance. I am forever thankful to Priscilla, Wayne and Patricia for allowing us to visit during the storm!
#KeepItPublic - the Cascade-Siskiyou Nat'l Monument is on the list of nat'l monuments the current admin is considering shrinking or loosening protections for. I ran an ultramarathon in this area a while back and wanted to post a small tribute to these lands' protection. I know issues like this are complex, but I feel like we need to be so, so careful about decisions impacting protections of these spaces. It especially troubles me to hear that Bears Ears Nat'l Monument is being threatened as well - that one's designation by joint efforts of Native American tribes makes it all the more important, and that shouldn't just be disregarded. Lord knows I still have a lot to learn about the issues and how I can help : P but I plan on doing so the best I can, and I'm hopeful that others will do so as well #OkGettingOffTheTinySoapboxNow 😝🙂
