Filming natural dye videos set to release in the new year for all to learn natural color techniques even if you can't attend a workshop in person 🌻 They'll be available for download on my website so you can watch at your own leisure as many times as you like and with your download you'll have the opportunity to tune in to a question and answer internet conference where I can help troubleshoot your process and results. I'll be conducting the live q&a sessions once a month and after you download your video, you'll have a full 6 months to experiment and take part in the live follow up sessions if you like. The new year will also bring a long overdue website revamp for The Dogwood Dyer and new workshop venues including workshops here at my home studio in the orange grove dye garden! Stay tuned... #newstuff#learnwithme#thedogwooddyer#onlineworkshops#naturaldyeing#naturaldyes

"Lichens contain a wide array of pigments, making them very useful as a source for natural dyes. They have been used for this purpose since Roman times..."

This one is for the women of flow, the women with wings, the women of water, and of coarse the women of the moon.
Spent my morning watching a magnificent red tail hawk soar the tree lines looking for breakfast. The gifts from of Earth are always the sweetest. 🙏🙏
Mabel wore her new #silverfoxbonnet today while we watched the first snow flurries of the season fall. We're supposed to get more snow tonight, so I made a run for groceries and fuel for the pellet stove with Silas and Job because they needed haircuts and I thought I'd combine it all. So what I did was take 4 and 6 year old little boys for haircuts and shopping on a Friday afternoon with snow in the forecast. Not sure I was actually thinking at all. As my energy waned, theirs increased. It always works that way, doesn't it?
(Bonnet was knit in my own madder dyed #gshelleryarn and her boiled wool coat is by @disana.natur. I bought it from Little Spruce Organics.)
"The dyeing process usually starts with a bush trip out on country... Dyeing practice is not new to the island, dyeing Pandanus for weaving has long been tradition. Bush dyeing practice carries that knowledge into a new medium and draws on a broader spectrum of traditional knowledge on Eylandt plant life. Aly de Groot, a well known Darwin fibre artist, facilitated the development of natural dyeing with textiles over a number of years through workshops with the female artists who were interested in diversifying their practice. Aly now works at the art centre full time as their Art Director and bush dyeing is now a key medium for female artists across the Eylandt."

We found a great way of using the red cabbage we had in our fridge. We chopped and boiled it in water for half an hour until the water turned purple and then we had a go at dying some old fabric. #kindergardening#naturaldyes#naturalcraft
Oh luxurious Silk, how you make me feel spoiled and chique, feminine and soft. These golden tones, the purples and reds, I learn to love you. I will not abandon my love for blues and greens, but I will explore your possibilities and your generosity. Because as I go along this journey of natural dyes, I learn, that going with the flow and allowing myself to walk the road less taken, wonderful gifts cross my path. #journey#ecoprint#silk#theroad#life
Our new 🔹blouse collection🔹 will be launching online tomorrow morning! Each blouse was hand embroidered by women from the Jolom Mayaetik Weaving Cooperative. The designs are seriously breathtaking and are traditional to 3 communities throughout the Chiapas Highlands. We are so grateful to Elvia, Liz and the Jolom Mayaetik team for their beautiful work 💜 Check back here tomorrow morning for the complete collection!
Things that go together. 🖐🏻 I always have an abundance of collected treasures from walks around me and in my space. They keep me company in a way that a friend or roomate might. These pine needles have been with me for a couple of months and I love how different they look depending on how they're shuffled about. Today they were the best addition to these two big stones I've been working on - painted with pomegranate skins and rusty metal.
Доброго утра, друзья!
У всех елочки-иголочки)

Vine tendrils creeping over silk. Did you know that all the Akapukaea growing in Aotearoa have the same tipuna (ancestors). Propagated from the grandparent vines on Three Kings Island and therefore saved from extinction by a clever botanist. Cool eh?.

Biodyed organic cotton 🌿
Natural dyes, organic cotton, close loop dyeing system. What does that mean? Dyes coming directly from the natural world, harvested in a sustainable manner. Cotton grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides. All the processes in the dye cycle support each other in a continuous loop; the waste from one stage is a resource used in the next stage of production... The result is a beautiful material that is fully biodegradable at the end of life, and that supports people and the environment. #slowdesign#sustainablefashion#organiccotton#closedloopsystem#artisanmade#naturaldyes#biodye#sustainableliving @organiccottonplus
12 days before I close up shop to begin celebrating Christmas with my family. So, to celebrate, use code: TOWELS at checkout for 30% off any and all tea towels good until midnight December 12th. These guys are a labor of love. Between sourcing the best French linen I could, to cutting and sewing everyone myself, and then doing batches upon batches of dyes. Each one is 100% unique. Great for Christmas gifts!!
