At about 2 hours old, this little is still attached to the umbilical cord. @scvbirth we delay cord cutting until momma and baby have had lots of skin-to-skin, breastfeeding and beautiful, unrestricted bonding. Notice how calm and relaxed this baby is. At about the 2 hour mark, baby has nursed well and is ready for a long nap. This is the perfect time to do the first full newborn exam and cut that cord. This exam takes place right next to the family on the bed so baby can still feel and smell it's family. What a sweet and secure way to perform a newborn exam. Another reason out-of-hospital birth is so awesome.

B I R T H. New life. The arrival of your long awaited precious baby. I never thought I'd be someone who would want a photographer present when I gave birth but that's what I ended up deciding to do. Given my previous section with the twins, Teddy was always going to come out of the sunroof - something that filled me with anxiety the closer we got to D Day. We had to get to hospital by 5am and the morning went by in a blur - I was so nervous I can't remember much except 1) the amazing theatre assistant who saw how tense and nervous I was getting the spinal tap and came over, held my hand unprompted and tried to distract me with questions about the boys and 2) the specific moment Teddy was placed on my chest. We met Robyn @robyndaviephoto back in August when she took some candid family shots for us and asked her to come into theatre with us. So grateful she agreed and thankful for the images she took. The photos capture the gamut of emotions of the morning and I will treasure them always. How surreal to think that one day Teddy will be able to appreciate these photos himself 💕
Bit of a delay the last few days... little Snappy came a week early! I went into the hospital on Saturday morning, and after a bit of a traumatic delivery and some observation, Zaiah Astrid Senyk arrived in the world on Saturday evening. October is my busiest month, and I have to extend *enormous* thanks to my team and my clients for their support, encouragement and understanding as we take a bit of an unconventional approach to shooting and editing these beautiful weddings over these few weeks! Currently a bit bedridden, but we now have an editing system going, and I'm excited to share some gorgeous autumn images soon. My gratitude to everyone who's offered help and support to keep things running smoothly - my shooters, friends, couples, friends, family, and of course my superstar husband - truly knows no bounds.
