Tech Tuesday! Plaster damp boxes are a huge time saver/headache preventer in my studio. They create a moist environment for extra handles to hang out until I have more mugs ready. They're like clay humidors. They'll also bring pieces that have dried out too much back to leather hard life. The plaster in the bottom of the tote holds water creating a moist atmosphere, but its surface stays dry preventing wet spots or unevenness. The concept for this was shared with me by my friend @anne_sasso after her time at Penland last summer studying with @adamfieldpottery.
Making your own plaster damp box is super easy!
Materials: plastic tote with tight fitting lid, plaster, water
1) Mix plaster according to package
2) Pour plaster into tote
3) Once plaster has set up enough that it can be removed, gently remove the slab and allow it to cure outside the tote
4) Once the plaster is fully cured, put the slab back in the bin... it'll be a perfect fit
5) Pour as much water onto the plaster as it will absorb
Store extra handles, spouts, pots that you need to suspend at leather hard for a long time, whatever. Every now and again recharge the plaster with some water. To make an extra tight seal I place a layer of plastic across the top before I put the lid on and I only have to add water every couple months.
Yesterday we brunched near the banks of Bristol Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island. Driving through New England sure has been a reminder of a few of our favourite UK cities.
The Beehive Cafe was fabulous - do check it out if you're in the area; my favourite touch was the plastic toy animal they give you in lieu of a table number :) The sky was a bit overcast, but the boats we found near the pier make me look forward for warmer days ahead!

From my most recent blog post 'Steady in the Spring.' This guy always brings a lot of laughs- and a surreal degree of unwavering optimism. If he has bad days, they certainly don't provoke him.. thanks for always being down to strike a pose @nichoras_11
Spring at Old North Bridge. Concord is such a beautiful history filled Massachusetts town, and one of the few places left where firing a musket is a casual thing.
While I was wandering through the trails taking photos of spring blossoms, a full regalia militia reenactor teaching school kids about that battle of Lexington & Concord actually fired his musket twice for effect – look alive! 👀 🇺🇸

Last Power Barre class with my favorite pregnant YMCA instructor before the schedule changes! I have this lady to thank for a great workout every Tuesday! Of course, we always take an updated "bump" photo at the end of class 🤰🏻She's due in late August, & I'm secretly hoping she gives birth a little early on my birthday! 😉We're 6 weeks apart (she's 21 weeks) & it's been so wonderful having a professional trainer as a workout/pregnancy buddy & friend! ♡
