Navaratri (nine nights) is one of the greatest Hindu festivals. It symbolises the triumph of good over evil. Navratri takes place at the beginning of October around harvest time and, as the name implies, this festival is celebrated for nine days. Navratri is also known as Durga Puja.
During this period Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped as three different manifestations of Shakti, or cosmic energy.
I went to Jamaican funerary tradition ”Nine Nights” the other day. It means a celebration that is arranged to the memory of dead person. This celebration was held in a ghetto called Tavern. In Nine Nights people eat, chats with each other, plays domino and drinks lot of booze. #NineNights

For my Non Jamaicans: Nine-Nights, also known as Dead Yard, is a funerary tradition practiced in the Caribbean (primarily Grenada, Dominica, Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Haiti and the Dominican Republic). It is an extended wake that lasts for several days, with roots in African religious tradition. During this time, friends and family come together to the home of the deceased. They share their condolences and memories while singing hymns and eating food together.
