Something I have needed more of for Camden has been anti-strip jammies. If you’re a special needs mom then there’s a good chance you know these are about much more than keeping your kids clothes on. . . They are a life saver!!! They are also crazy expensive, seriously, anything for autism or special needs children is! I constantly feel we are getting taken advantage of in overpriced products for Cam. At any rate, my Mom saw the need and boy did she ever fill it for us! She took one of his anti-strip jumpsuits for a pattern and sewed up all of these for us. I kid you not, this would have cost me no less than $300 to get elsewhere. Huge thanks to my mom!!! We love them!
This morning started off a little rough, but I was given the opportunity to spend time with my nephew until his mom got back from sisters field trip. We went to 7 Acre Wood in Conroe. He had so much fun and made friends with the cow in the petting zoo area...where he forced me to spend about an hour making animal noises together haha
Don't wait to introduce AAC. I wish we had started earlier. I wish I had known about AAC when Charli was first diagnosed with autism or even before that when at 2 she had no words. #aacawarenessmonth#autism#nonverbal

This is Charli's speech app Speak For Yourself(SFY). After hours and hours of research SFY was my first AAC app I purchased. It is a great app focused around core vocabulary and motor planning. I met a lot of resistance by therapists for choosing this app(because they were not familiar with it) and instead of sticking with my gut I caved and got a more well known app called proloquo2go. Well proloquo2go didn't work for us. Charli couldn't navigate folders, the words changed locations and you could have one word in several locations. So when we met our new speechie and found out they used SFY we changed back. I am now kicking myself for not sticking with it the first time. How much further along would she be if we had stuck with SFY? I should have followed my gut on this one. Sometimes the therapists aren't always right. You know your kid better then them so go with your gut and fight for them. #aacawarenessmonth#aac#speakforyourself#sfy#mummaknowsbest#autism#asd#nonverbal
had the best PD today on how to assess pupils working below age related expectations/SEN pupils today. Whilst doing extra reading because I was #inspired this table scared me and inspired me to be the best teacher I can be. No child should be a part of these statistics without receiving the best support. This table has just kicked @happyeducators come back into full gear. All children deserve the chance to do their best.
