➡️My "WHY" nominated by @abbielombardo. So why do I go to the gym every day even though I'm dog tired and why do I compete? If you're looking for a cliche answer I don't have one. My answer is simple. Bodybuilding is the only thing in my life that I can put 110% into and I'm rewarded based on how hard I bust my ass. You can work every day at your job to be the best and most successful and never get that promotion, you could be the nicest most genuine person and be taken advantage of your whole life, and you can do all the hoping and praying in the world and luck will never be on your side. But bodybuilding, you put 110% into that and you see every reflection of late night workouts, supplementation, and proper nutrition. I ENJOY the struggle. While most people are complaining about how tired they are or how they are so hungry I'm laughing and smiling because I live for those moments where I can persevere and reap the rewards of my hard work!••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••#notstrongforagirl#juststrong#strongwomen#mywhy#bodybuilding#figuregirl#aroundtheopa#aroundthecpa#supplementkingcanada#ontariomuscle#torontomuscle#badasswomen#strongissexy#gymrat#fitfam#durhamregion#flexingladies#girlswithmuscle#girlswholift#honeyeyes
Tb to Friday’s leg day bc this cold has kept me from working out since then 🤧 but I’m finally getting over it and I’m excited to work arms today 💪🏻💖 •
I’m also suuuuper excited to say that I am now an ambassador for @bejuststrong!! Just Strong is all about empowering and encouraging strong women. Being a female weightlifter is challenging at times; with society’s expectations it can be hard to remain confident and true to yourself. I have had many times of self doubt and feeling as though I shouldn’t be “too strong” in fear of not fitting in. I am proud to represent a company that encourages us to push those thoughts aside and be STRONG. #NotStrongForAGirl#JustStrong •
If you’d like to support me and all of the other strong women out there and want some super sick workout gear, you can use my discount code JOSIEPOW10 for 10% off your order of @bejuststrong clothing!✨💕

I am excited to announce that I have recently become a brand ambassador for @bejuststrong . This marks a major step in fulfilling my dream of transforming myself into an inspirational influencer in the fitness community. This year marks 20 years into this journey and it has been bumpy! My goal is to educate others about diet, nutrition and help them improve their health. Long before I entered corporate America, I had wanted to be a physician to be able keep people healthy. Life had other plans and I left that world, now I can take a different approach and help people stay out of the Dr’s office as long as possible.
I not only want to help people, I especially want to help empower #women . This brand that I am endorsing aligns to my mentality and approach when it comes to empowering women. Their mission is to motivate strong women to overcome their adversaries and embrace their strength, no matter the source, which is something I have experienced, so because of this I am eager to promote @bejuststrong clothing.
A little update from me (2 videos) ☺️... still going strong! Getting new maxes. 155lbs on squat today for 7 reps! Woop woop! Was too busy getting spotted to video 😂 you’ll have to forgive me. Gonna make it to 200 in a few months if I can help it! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 don’t bet against me. This year I’m coming in strong.
It was freezing at @americanbarbellclub tonight! Took a bit to get warmed up but I’m very happy with tonight’s workout! Worked up to 360x3 deadlifts and 330x5 banded “sumo” block pulls (first time I’ve ever done these🙌🏽) .... Beginning the peak for #BOTB4 and the point where sticking to the program is crucial 💯 Getting excited now 😊 @dubs242 @dubsbarbellclub @the_traveling_warrior @nickisrael_dpt
When should I use mixed grip vs double overhand grip for deadlifts? 🤔
I get this question a lot from new lifters, because let’s face it: mixed grip looks weird at first. Once you have spent some considerable time developing your deadlift strength, however, mixed grip will start to look more appealing as the bar tries to rip out of your hands every set.
When I say “mixed grip” I mean one had over (pronated) and one hand under (supinated) when you grip the bar (pictured on the right). Mixed grip helps you “trap” the bar between your hands so it does not roll out of your hands. Your grip will be stronger in this position, but with one drawback: you may develop imbalances if you use this grip too frequently.👎
I recommend training with a double overhand grip (pictured on the left) for as long as possible when you first start lifting. This will strengthen your grip, which is usually most women’s limiting factor when it comes to heavy deadlifting! Only once it becomes absolutely necessary, try the mixed grip. Ideally, you should switch your hand placement each set, although not many people do this. One hand position will probably feel better than the other! 🤷
If you have already been using the mixed grip, I challenge you to do your lighter sets and accessory work with double overhand grip. Greater grip strength is so important, so don't neglect this chance to strengthen it! 💪😎
