With all the confusing "marketing terms" used on the front of the cartons, how are you supposed to know what eggs are actually good for you?
Without boring you by going too deep, I want to help you make your own educated decision next time you're craving an omelet!
🥚Regular eggs👉 Come from chickens kept inside, literally shoulder-to-shoulder in their own shit, being fed cheap grain. High in omega 6 fatty acids, with low nutrient value.
🥚Cage-free eggs👉 Come from chickens also kept inside, still shoulder-to-shoulder in their own shit, being fed cheap grain.
Wait... what? I thought they were cage free? Sure they are! But that just means they're still kept inside for the majority of the day, and are no better for you than 'regular' EGGS.
🥚Free-range eggs👉 Come from chickens that are allowed outdoor roaming, who get to eat grass at their leisure. These eggs will, as a result, be high in omega 3 fatty acids, with a much better nutrient content.
Just for reference:
💡Omega 6 fatty acids are inflammatory, and cause a variety of our most common health concerns. These are found in processed grains, and are a large contributing factor to heart disease and chronic inflammation in the body.
💡Omega 3 fatty acids are Anti-inflammatory, and help to balance excess omega 6 consumption. These fatty acids are typically found in greens, algeas, and fish (these are what your doctor said you need more of). They help with a variety of things, from brain health, to heart health, and even joint pain reduction. Basically, less inflammation = better life.
Eggs are a great source of a TON of other nutrients that we need (especially us guys) ranging from choline for brain health, and cholesterol to help our body to produce sexual hormones (keep that testosterone up!)
🥚WHO ELSE LOVES EGGS??🥚
I am beginning to experiment the results of keto-adaptation and it’s incredible. Never feel better in my whole life. It’s the proof I needed. There’s essential fatty acids (fat) and essential amino acids (protein). We have to take them from the diet. But there is no essential carbohydrates. That’s because our bodies can transform proteins into sugar. So I tried and I will never go back. @carlos_stro
When you’re starvinggggg and check your drawer for snacks knowing full well that you don’t beings snacks to work but find chocolate coz you forgot that your legend of a workmate bought it for you last week! Yassssss! Breaking my no sweets rule yet again 🤷🏻♀️. You have no idea how much you saved my life @jojo_jarrel 🙌🏻
I was so tired today because I couldn’t push through a 36-hour fast last night and ended up giving in and eating at 3:30 AM. 🤷♀️ That meant starting a new fast at 4:30 AM and basically staying up all night so that I didn’t sleep on a full stomach.
Today was pretty much a wash , though (thank the Lord that I didn’t have work‼️). And just when I was contemplating having to muster the energy to cook something to break my fast, my lil sis brought me this yummy dinner... 😋 I have to say that I’m a lucky, lucky 🍀 girl because both my Mom & sister have been nothing but supportive of this new keto lifestyle. They listen to me babble about the science behind keto and IF and are always willing to accommodate my dietary restrictions and crazy eating windows. 🤗
Keto Day 5. Feeling fine and energetic now but I’ve been so bad at drinking enough water and getting my electrolytes in. I lagged yesterday and earned a headache and heavy fatigue. Working on it. My sleep is more disturbed, waking a 4:00 a.m., laying awake for an hour+, then sleeping again. Hoping this will pass.
The pic is of @healthfulpursuit Leanne Vogel’s Flax Seed Foccacia. I had it for lunch with chicken thigh (skin on) salad. The bread was delish! (Swipe to see MFP stats)
Scott and I are toying around with fasting, 16:8 is roughly what we shoot for. So that means two meals a day and maybe a snack if necessary. Today's brunch was a burger on top of peppers onions, and avocado. Side of veggies. #paleo
2 weeks of #nutritionalketosis down the hatch, I’m totally digging it. No afternoon crash, better sleep and just feeling good overall. It’s far less restrictive than I thought. You can eat cake on keto!
I’ve made a couple keto treats, pic above is @grassfedgirl’s cinnamon walnut muffins, and today I made the brown butter gingerbread cake from @keto.connect (cream cheese frosting!)
I used @lakantosweetener for both, and it tastes and subs just like sugar. I always notch down the sugar a little anyway, and it’s great to have an alternative instead of Stevia, which I find pretty gross in most applications
I also did a “carb-up” a la @healthfulpursuit last night, we went out to dinner at @aureolelv and the mashed potatoes were calling my name #cyclicalketosis
