👉Before we start, I’d like to point out 3 important things relevant to this post:

1️⃣This is more of an advanced nutritional topic. If you’re a beginner, just get your calories and macros right first . 
2️⃣I’m not saying the fruits I don’t recommend are bad for you, at all. No Some are just more optimal post workout
. 
3️⃣You don’t have to be eating fruit at all post workout. You may just have a normal meal post workout and that’s fine also .

🥝Right, let’s move on shall we. When you train, you lose glycogen from the muscles. This glycogen has to be replaced to help recovery and also protein synthesis. This is why carbohydrates (especially simple sugars) are a great choice post workout. Examples being fruit, white rice, cereals, white potato, dextrose drinks etc.

🍍Fruits contain both glucose and fructose. These are primarily absorbed by different intestinal pathways in the body. Glucose goes more towards the muscle cells, whereas fructose helps restore liver glycogen. In terms of building muscle mass and thus, losing body fat, we want our muscle cells to be replenished quickly. This doesn’t mean we don’t want liver glycogen to be replenished but, liver glycogen is depleted more over hours worth of endurance exercise, over a 24 your period. Not a 45-60 high intensity weights session. Follow so far?

🍑Therefore, if choosing fruit as your post workout snack, you want to pick fruits, which contain more glucose than fructose. I like to give my online coaching clients fruits, like the examples in the picture (kiwi, cherries, apricots and pineapples)

🍒As I said at the start, it’s not the end of the world if you’ve been consuming an apple post workout. Now you have the information to make a choice for optimal recovery and gainz 💪

Before I start, I absolutely encourage you to eat a variety of vegetables .
Have you ever been told to “load up” on vegetables because they’re practically zero calories?

Maybe you took this advice to heart and you’re still wondering why, despite eating healthfully, you’re not losing weight.
.
The fact is, vegetables, although are an important source of fibre and micronutrients, do have calories and, as with all good things, you CAN have too much of them. .
Not all vegetables are created equal in the calories department.
.
Not to mention there’s always going to be people that hear this advice and go to town on vegetables. Which gives me this weird visual of vegetables on the loose in Vegas😂.
.
Then there’s the question of how you’re preparing your vegetables or eating them.
.
Some people will eat their veggies raw or steam them. You’re probably going to do just fine. But if you’re coming from a place of eating tasty junk foods you’re more likely to match the extra veggies, however they’re prepared, with a whole lot of condiments like Thousand Island dressing or Ranch dressing etc.
.
So you see, the advice of loading up on veggies is WAY TOO simplistic and can be potentially terrible advice. No help at all.
.
Something you eagle eyed people may have  noticed is I’ve included carrots. Even though they’re relatively lower in calories I’ve still put them in there.
.
WHY?
.
The problem is, some people will use it as a crutch to ward off hunger between meals and chomp on them endlessly and mindlessly.
.
Remember, it all adds up.
.
This post dealt with making you more aware of the calories in certain vegetables, next time I'll also give you ideas on vegetables to keep your calories low while bulking out your meals.

Aprender a leer las tablas nutricionales y la lista de ingredientes de los productos es clave si quieres mejorar tus hábitos alimenticios. IDEAL que la mayor parte de nuestra alimentación sea de productos naturales, como: frutas, verduras, proteínas limpias, granos enteros... productos que no tienen tabla nutricional ni lista de ingredientes. Sin embargo hay muchas cosas que consumimos que si tienen dicha información y por esto es súper importante que aprendamos a leerla y a en entenderla.
Les dejo unos tips básicos Y generales con los que rápidamente te darás cuenta cual es la mejor elección 😉.

1.Lo primero que debes mirar es la lista de INGREDIENTES. Busca productos con lista de ingredientes corta, entre más larga sea, más químicos, conservantes y cosas dañinas tiene. El producto es prácticamente los primeros 3 ingredientes de la lista, así que mucho cuidado con estos 🧐
2. En la tabla nutricional empieza por el tamaño de la porción. OJO con esto, por mas pequeño y “personal” que parezca el empaque puede tener más de una porción. Si aquí dice 2 porciones por envase debes multiplicar las calorías y todo lo demás por ese numero de porciones.
3.Busca productos que no tengan Grasas TRANS o “hidrogenadas” (son muy malas para nuestra salud), que no tengan más de 5gr de Azúcar por
porción, más de 2gr de fibra y menos sodio que calorías por porción.

1.) Iron is better absorbed with vitamin C, so add some citrus to your salad! THE WAY WE COMBINE OUR FOODS EFFECTS HOW THEY BENEFIT OUR HEALTH 
2.) A balance of omega 3 fatty acids (anti-inflammatory found in fish oil etc.) and omega 6s (inflammatory-found in hempseed oil, grapeseed oil) is important because we need to effectively fight inflammation, yet we need inflammation to heal! NOT ALL INFLAMMATION IS BAD AND THE BODY CANNOT PRODUCE OMEGA 6 or OMEGA 3 on its own, therefore you must get them from food. ( If you eat a lot of processed foods you are at risk for having too much omega 6 and therefore a heightened inflammatory response)  FUCK PROCESSED FOODS:) 3.) If you are looking to put on muscle mass the perfect mixture to drink during workouts is 45g of carbs and 15 grams of protein in 500-600ml of water for every hour that you train. WHEN DECIDING THE CONCENTRATION OF A WORKOUT DRINK, CONSIDER WHAT IS EFFECTIVE BUT WONT UPSET YOUR STOMACH.  @precisionnutrition

Ready to nerd out?? Maca! What is it you ask? It's a cruciferous veggie from Peru which is used for culinary and medicinal purposes! 
The edible part is the root which is most commmonly ground into powder form. What are the benefits? It's high in vitamin C, copper and iron, it increases libido, and can improve your mood. It also may boost your performance and energy in physical activity and improve your brain function!! That's one powerful root!! And ONE of 70 superfoods in my breakfast! 
Today I topped my sweet potato breakfast bowl with persimmon sautéed in coconut oil & cinnamon which may just be my new favorite fruit (sorry pineapple), Pip & Nut peanut butter and a few cheeky squares of dark chocolate. Persimmon is great for digestion & high in fiber! And I'm seriously becoming OBSESSED as you do.  I washed it down with Kombucha which also aids digestion and improves gut health. Before I start, I absolutely encourage you to eat a variety of vegetables .
Have you ever been told to “load up” on vegetables because they’re practically zero calories?

Maybe you took this advice to heart and you’re still wondering why, despite eating healthfully, you’re not losing weight.
.
The fact is, vegetables, although are an important source of fibre and micronutrients, do have calories and, as with all good things, you CAN have too much of them. .
Not all vegetables are created equal in the calories department.
.
Not to mention there’s always going to be people that hear this advice and go to town on vegetables. Which gives me this weird visual of vegetables on the loose in Vegas😂.
.
Then there’s the question of how you’re preparing your vegetables or eating them.
.
Some people will eat their veggies raw or steam them. You’re probably going to do just fine. But if you’re coming from a place of eating tasty junk foods you’re more likely to match the extra veggies, however they’re prepared, with a whole lot of condiments like Thousand Island dressing or Ranch dressing etc.
.
So you see, the advice of loading up on veggies is WAY TOO simplistic and can be potentially terrible advice. No help at all.
.
Something you eagle eyed people may have  noticed is I’ve included carrots. Even though they’re relatively lower in calories I’ve still put them in there.
.
WHY?
.
The problem is, some people will use it as a crutch to ward off hunger between meals and chomp on them endlessly and mindlessly.
.
Remember, it all adds up.
.
This post dealt with making you more aware of the calories in certain vegetables, next time I'll also give you ideas on vegetables to keep your calories low while bulking out your meals.

FOOD PREP // it's no secret that I hate food prep - I find it takes too long and I often get hangry as I'm making it 😂🙊. But this week I'm trying to take a little more responsibility for my health and making sure I eat well, even if that does mean being a little more prepared.

When the entire household is sick, we make this.. A nutrient-packed soup that provides more than enough protein, fiber, vitamins, and a happy immune system.

1. Base: Juiced Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, n' Vegetable Broth
2. Grains n' Legumes: Amaranth, Bean Blend
3. Vegetables of choice. In this case; Broccoli Rabe, Cabbage, Leeks, Celery, Mushrooms, Bell Peppers, Chard, n' Red Leaf Lettuce.
4. Combine Flax Meal to thicken.
5. Spices: Sage, Thyme, Turmeric, Cumin, Ground Ginger, Black Pepper, Sea Salt.
Serve with bread of choice.

Research shows that nutrient timing is typically not an important factor for weight loss or muscle gain.
▪️However there are circumstances in which nutrient timing becomes important:
1️⃣ If you decide to train more than 3 hours after your last meal (e.g. first thing in the morning before breakfast) then it is impYeah ortant to consume protein as soon after you finish your workout.
2️⃣If you train late at night but have been eating adequately during the day then consume some protein before sleeping -we recommend a mixture of whey and casein protein.
3️⃣If you've completed a session combining both weight training and cardio then it is important to consume a high amount of post-workout carbs to replenish glycogen (which fuels our muscles).
▪️Spread your nutrients over 3-6 meals (smaller meals with greater frequency) daily - decide by personal preference.

The Harvard Physicians Health study, which followed 20,000 doctors for over twenty years found that those doctors consuming at least one egg a day had a significantly higher all-cause mortality risk, which essentially suggests that consuming even just one egg a day is significantly associated with a shorter lifespan. Most often on these types on nights I cave into the “omg I need pizza to my face right now” cravings, but after a ton of indulging this weekend I decided to aim for a balanced meal instead. That leftover salad from our Christmas party was exactly what I needed for a fruity, flavorful, & refreshing side to go with my @amyskitchen Lentil Vegetable soup that I picked up at the supermarket before heading home tonight.

🧐I’ll admit - I spent a good 15 minutes comparing nutrition labels on various brands of canned soup, and holy moly is the salt content high in so many of them! This was the lowest I could find, and it actually was exactly the type of soup I was craving too. This lentil veggie soup only has 340mg of sodium per 1/2 can, compared to the typical 550-750 per 1/2 can I was seeing on most other soups (daily sodium needs are only 1500mg!!)

🍲Canned soup can be a great “pull from the cabinet & heat” 5 minute dinner to have on hand, but I’d definitely look for low sodium versions when you can, & try to add some veggies on the side, whether it’s leftover cooked veggies, a side salad, or even some sliced fresh veggies like cucumbers or bell peppers!
