Hate to break it to you - but NO! It isn’t. MSG is a chemical, yes, but so is water, sugar, oxygen, etc. MSG is the ionic salt form of the ion sodium and the amino acid glutamate or glutamic acid. Glutamate is a non-essential amino acid found in protein - yes, it is in your “protein” shakes that you all rave about. -

MSG had a bad rap for a number of years from a few flawed studies, but over the past 30 years scientists have banded together agreeing that MSG is not the cause of many of the vague associated symptoms. -

Yes you can look up studies about MSG induced Obesity - but those studies are not from feeding mice MSG but rather injecting it intravenously. Receiving constant high concentrations of any amino acids systemically will induce insulin resistance and obesity. MSG in your food is not the same thing.

Let’s talk about bread. More specifically, different types of bread! Here are some examples of packaged bread loafs that I came across at the grocery store: White bread. Brown Bread. Whole Wheat Bread. Whole Grain Bread. Whole Grain Wheat Bread. Whole Grain White Bread.  Multi-Grain Bread…..Is there no end to this bread novel? 📚🤔

With so many new food products coming out from every direction, labelled with words that many are not yet familiar with, it’s very easy for the average consumer to be confused by all of these terms and be driven into make certain assumptions…which often time can be wrong! ❌❌

🤔So…What’s the difference? ☝Let’s start with defining both terms ☝

“WHOLE GRAIN” refers to a food in which the entire wheat grain is used.
.
“MULTI-GRAIN” refers to a food that contains more than one type of grain (e.g. oats, buckwheat, cracked wheat, flax and millet). These foods are often very hearty, packed with nutrients, and providing a dense texture and rich flavour to the grain products. However, though many types of grains are used, it does not necessarily mean that the food contains whole grain ingredients – unless specifically stated. Therefore, the ingredients could either contain whole grain or refined grains.

So….
QUESTION❓: Which one is healthier❓
ANSWER☑: Both are fine, just be sure to check the ingredients!
. ✅Whole grain foods are always a healthy choice because they contain important sources of nutrients including fibre, trace minerals, and certain vitamins.

❗On the other hand multi-grain foods must be more closely examined. As mentioned previously, multi-grain products could either contain whole grains or refined grains. When a grain is refined, most of the bran and some of the germ is removed, resulting in a loss of fibre, B vitamins, vitamin E, trace minerals and unsaturated fat.

CONCLUSION: When opting for a multi-grain bread, it is important to look closely at the label and make sure that the grains all include the word ‘WHOLE’. This ensures that the grains in this food are all whole grain! •

👉The main point of this post is to highlight that just become something is organic (or gluten free, low fat blah blah blah) doesn't mean it's 'better' for you in terms of calories and how it affects our body composition, especially if fat loss is your main goal

🍩As you can see a 37g (roughly 2 tablespoons) serving of Nutella is basically no different when compared to an organic chocolate hazelnut spread. And guess what one is more expensive? Hmm, I wonder 🤔😂

Let me explain: Some foods have inhibitors that block absorption of nutrients -combining certain foods decreases those inhibitors and increase absorption of the nutrients. Tried something new yesterday .... cow tongue! I guess you could say I'm an adventurous eater🍽. Trying to add organ meat into my diet. First I cooked it in the instant pot then removed the outer skin, sliced and fried it in ghee. Personally I liked it better than liver. I was too creeped out to touch it at first my roomie had to give me a pep talk 🤣 that tongue was huge !!!

Protein helps prevent muscle loss and metabolic slowdown. Weight loss doesn't always equal fat loss. When you lose weight, muscle mass tends to be reduced as well. ... Let me start off by saying adequate protein intake is ESSENTIAL for weight loss. Depending on your physical activity level, this is somewhere around 0.6-0.8g/lb of body weight. *

With that being said, if your goal is weight loss, a plant based protein isn’t ideal because there is no guarantee it has a complete amino acid profile (all 9 essential amino acids). That’s not to say it’s impossible to find a vegan protein powder with all the essential amino acids, but it will take more effort on your part and may not be necessary.

If you don’t have issues with lactose intolerance or consuming animal products, a #wheyconcentrate is the most cost effective and efficient way to go. *
A #wheyisolate is ideal for someone with #lactoseintolerance as a lot of the lactose is removed during the microfiltration process.  However, there is also a thought that this process denatures some of the protein. So, if you don’t have a lactose intolerance, the whey isolate probably isn’t worth the extra $15.

Being off on tracking fat and protein can drastically alter your overall tracked consumed calories (remember fat has 9cal/gram and protein has only 4cal/gram)
