I shot this one of San Jose del Pacifico before we got on a 4 hour van ride to #oaxacacity . I don’t know if I am being hormonal or just blunt, but besides the views there is nothing appealing in this place. Wait up, I’m about to get all Yelp critique up in dis bitch. After all we all loooove haters. No, lol, im going to explain myself right now. We decided to make a pit stop here coming from the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. From Pochutla, right in between Huatulco and Puerto Escondido is where route 175 goes up and down straight to Oaxaca city. In one go, it’s a 7 hour ride for 195 pesos Mexicanos. To make it lighter and get to see sum extra, we decided to stop here which seemed and it’s officially called a ‘Magic village’. Unfortunately the only magical thing there is the extremely touristically catered hallucinogenic Mushrooms. Prior to arrival we found an article online dated of 2016 from another tripper (pun intended) saying that there is a sort of hostel like house of a lady called Catalina, where they accommodate wherever (on a bed, couch, floor, bathroom if necessary) for only u$s 3 a night. The picture I took alike to the pictures you can find on google to illustrate San Jose. It seemed cute, cheap and convenient so we went at it. Upon arrival, on the Main Street of the village that is coincidentally also route 175 we asked directions to arrive at Casa Catalina (the 3 dollar hit spot). After walking 400 m in the dark we found it and also his owner, informing us that the place is no longer open to people. 😪👌🏽 HOT TIP TO Y’ALL: don’t rely on data from 2016. Fortunately across the street and 200 m further there were 2 other hostels . We asked at the closest one for prices as a relative of the owner or employee stood up from a nap in the room that we were being shown as available. Even though it was cheap, desperation was in the air. If I notice someone is very keen on something, they either try to take advantage of us or they are like REALLY desperate to make their business work because probably that’s all they got. Generally I don’t mind the latter one but the place seemed deserted and in a village where there is already nothing going on (continues ⬇️)
It is amazing how much fun you can have on a mountain bike you rent for $4 that has balding tires, loose brakes, and a shifty drivetrain. Also, I have not ridden a flat-barred bike in ages... I want one now! Nice to ride around in a bit more laid back manner. Drop bars make me feel racey. #nplusone#bikesidbeinto
