"I love what Emily P. Freeman wrote in Simply Tuesday (pg. 83) about a camp she attended, “There was no respect for anyone’s individual experience of God, no room to consider perhaps this isn’t how everyone worships.” The problem is that we as Christians have decided what a “good” Christian looks like. But the truth is that God created us all differently, giving us different gifts. (Romans 12:3-8). The Christian community as a whole can easily make individual Christians feel like they are not connected to Christ because they don’t feel the compulsion to raise their hands and close their eyes when they sing worship music. Let me tell you now that I have learned that this is wrong! We must learn to worship the way that God created us to worship, and that may be different than the woman next to you."

“What are you building that will outlive you?”
.
I don’t remember much of the message right after hearing these words. They went deep and have been on repeat, examining my heart, and raising more questions than could fill a page
.
What am I building: people or platforms? Will it continue to not only thrive, but become even more influential after I am gone? What am I giving my very best to?
.
When I look at her, I know the answer. When I see her sister, I know that what I’m doing right now may not seem like much— but it is everything. I can name off many things that bring me pleasure, that are my “gifting”, that I am working hard towards, but at the end of my life— watching them run their races well... will be my magnum opus ❤️

"And I’ll be honest, this way of life isn’t always easy. If you think getting rid of the stuff in your house is challenging, wait until you try to start purging some of the things in your heart and your head. It’s intense. Because you have to completely rethink how you’ve approached life in the past. And then you have to actually follow through with it. Most importantly, you have to stop making decisions based out of guilt and obligation. You can no longer do something just because society tells you that’s what’s done." Because of the way society perceives and promotes sexual desire, lust and attraction, there is a misconception that someone else’s spouse could be the love of your life and is therefore worth pursuing. Not true. Even if they are perfect for you, the fact that they are married means they are off limits. No matter how romantic, desirable or exciting the prospect of being with them may be, marriage is a holy, sacred thing and something to be honoured and respected.

“Do the work.” I’ve heard these words on repeat in different settings and variations for a week now
.
Do the work— even if it’s hard
Do the work— even if it terrifies you
Do the work— even if it causes anxiety (and all that an anxious stomach brings)
Do the work— even if it’s in secret (actually especially that which is done in secret)
Do the work— even when there’s no one giving you the 🙌🏼👊🏼or ❤️
Do the work— even when it’s mundane (you know, the stuff that grows your character more than your portfolio)
Do the work— even if you’ve been doing it all week, month, year or decade
If God has asked you to do it, then the only time to stop is if He tells you to
.
So here I am, Wednesday morning, doing the work. Writing words in obedience. Sharing vulnerable stories. Digging deep into truth. Even though it’s hard. Even though sharing is risky and terrifying at times. Even though it’s character building more than back breaking labor. Even though there isn’t an applause at the end of a chapter. I am doing the work
.
Here’s to Wednesday and doing what it is God’s asked us to do. Who’s with me? 🙋🏼‍♀️

Acts 9:32-36 // Aeneas had been paralyzed for 8 years. Until Peter showed up in his town. With one sentence Aeneas was healed. But it was Peter’s second command that sparked an even greater miracle
.
Rather than just proclaiming, "be healed", Peter told him to “get up and take care of his mat.” It was a call to action. It urged his faith to grow— to see beyond the instant miracle. It was a command to get up from the place and positions he’d been in for 8 years and into something new and glorious. The result? “All who saw him in Lydda and Sharon turned to the Lord
.
They SAW him— the man who had been paralyzed for 8 years, up and moving around. His action activated their faith. His action multiplied the miracle. It was no longer a physical change that impacted one man's life. It was a heart change that affected two towns. ALL who saw him turned to the Lord. Now that's impact! One man’s obedience changing cities
.
Lord, help me to hear when you speak. Help me to be brave to ACT where you've told me to move. May my actions turn others toward you

For the woman with a feed teeming with photos of powersheets and planners all color blocked and beautiful, whose best friends have all charted their goals for the year, set reminders, and already checked off several items (on the 2nd!), for the woman who feels underwhelmed with anticipation for 2018 because she knows it will be more of the same from 2017— the job that's helping to chip away at a massive debt load, caring for the family member who won't admit the addiction, the agony of feeling alone, or another round of wiping noses and butts on repeat
.
For all of you who have yet to write your goal list because you know that what was left in 2017 is not yet finished— rest assured, you're not alone. It may feel pointless to ask God for fresh vision, because what He asked you to do you haven't completed— but don't let that stop you from going to Him anyway. He isn't one to turn away His kids when they come to Him (regardless of their state)
.
Maybe what you set out to accomplish in 2017 didn't materialize as you hoped. Perhaps you lost steam, forgot the plan, or something unfortunate robbed you of an opportunity. Obeying what God's asked you to do sometimes means that we turnabout, temper our expectations, and try again
.
Sometimes it’s the simple, unspoken goals that trip us up the most— dealing with a complaining or comparing heart, lust, greed, choosing joy in the mundane parts of motherhood, being faithful where He’s planted you— or maybe He asked you to risk big, but you were too afraid to try. Whatever He’s asked you to do, choose obedience— in the big and scary, or small and silent things. If that means changing your course, or sticking at something difficult, no matter what the world shouts, let’s be women who lean in to His whisper. Hey, I think I just heard my word... for the third year in a row 😊

I’m not super into the “New Year, New me” sayings. “New me” sounds like the old me wasn’t good enough or was unable somehow.., but I’m all for goals and growth! So this year, the same ol’ me is excited to do some new things next to great people!

Want to know something you can do to make sure 2018 starts awesome!? 1) there are still 2 days left in 2017: What’s one good thing you can do NOW for yourself or -even better- for someone else before the year is over?? 2) Looking back, what’s one thing you can be grateful for in 2017?? How you close one chapter is so significant to how you open the next! So before we dismiss the end of 2017 and jump straight into intentions and goals, let’s decide to end well! With action and in gratitude and start 2018 strong 💪🎉

T o g e t h e r n e s s || With sins heavy mark on this world what a privilege to know and be known by our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh Child, do you feel the depth and magnitude of being Christ’s? Maybe you don’t know Him, or maybe you are fighting desperately to own the truth of being His... - What a privilege to gather around a table and have the multiple choices as to what will go on the table to satisfy our not-wanting stomachs. What a privilege to sit together in purity and unity- when other families are experiencing division and deception in this season. What a privilege to have a warm home and the means to give gifts. What a privilege to be healthy and present with one another... I know some friends and family who would struggle to see the blessings of this season. And I couldn’t blame them. Sins mark is searingly painful at times. Perspective is something we talked about this weekend. My heart comes into Christmas week heavy and humbled; wrestling over the goodness and yet the darkness of this world... Whether feeling afflicted, or blessed beyond measure- or somewhere in between this season... My greatest prayer tonight is that we would look towards the Light of the World first: for He has come bringing a word for the warrior, A balm for the wounded, a sword for the fighter, a shield for the defenseless... Emmanuel. Second, May we look around at those whom God has placed us In relationship and proximity with. Perhaps you have the time, the resources, or the encouraging word someone needs to hear this season- may we not hesitate to be the hands, feet, eyes and ears of Jesus. ❤️ #christmas #christmas2017

Anyone ever battle feeling “little”? How about “not significant”? Yeah, me neither... 😬🤦🏼‍♀️
.
Apparently it’s not a new trend. And those of us who have thought this way are in good company: “you, little Bethlehem, are not insignificant among the clans... for our out of you will emerge the Shepherd-King of my people Israel!” Matthew 2:6
.
Out of the humblest beginnings: from the body of an unwed teenager and into the hands of a simple carpenter came the Shepherd-King. Nestled carefully into a feeding trough for animals, and gazed upon by society’s lowest, was the Messiah
.
I love that Jesus chose the most lowly of ways to enter our earth. It’s almost as if He wanted to position Himself in such a way so that when we feel “little” or “insignificant”, He can smile and say... “just wait and watch”
.
The Christmas Story continues to amaze me, year after year, with new revelations and profound truth. Sitting amazed at the nearness of God— His ability to breathe life into an old text and hope into a deflated heart this morning

Little details signaling a season change. 🎄 A fire in the fire place, twinkle lights, a candle to burn.... (the one season a year it seems I pull out a candle) ahhh the anticipation and joy in celebrating with family and friends our Lord Jesus’ Birth. ❤️ Guys, I’m tired! Physically tired- feeling it in my aches and behind the eyes... a reminder of how futile life is, and how today will be tomorrow in a blink of an eye. It’s reminding me to set my gaze on eternal things which aligns the rest of our priorities. Hustle and bustle is fun and good but it’s not worth missing the fullness of a quiet moment.

In the crazy of the week before Christmas I hope you find the quiet moment to stop and breathe, reflect, and relish in; who you are, where you are, who HE is and has done... May you find refreshment, purpose, hope, and peace. For that is some reasons For which He came. To bring you purpose, give you hope, and flood you with peace 💚🕊 #christmas #christmas2017 #obedienceoverhustle #gracenotperfection #thankful #blessed #quiet #enjoy #bestill #hallal #tradition

Our friend @j.wanders852 is a beautiful woman living out her life from her true identity in Jesus. Here's a little bit of her heart:
•
"Being a Míla-Made Woman, to me, means fearlessly and tirelessly pursuing your God-given dreams, even if it's terrifying! If I'm being honest, I had to ask a close friend to help me come up with an answer to this one! I suppose in going back to work after having my baby, even though this isn't how I imagined life would look like as a new mama, this is one way I'm living my brave story. Life often doesn't look how I think it will, but I strive to live from a position of victory, rather than defeat. I try to help those close to me to take a step back and see God's hand in the hard situations, in what feels like the impossible. I want to be known as one who has loved recklessly, and without reserve. As someone who had eternal perspective."

Whatever you do...let it be done in love. Whatever you're working on today, ask Jesus to help you do it out of His love. What if love truly was the language we spoke universally?
How do you show love to one another...especially in this Christmas season?

When we allow ourselves to dive into Scripture to be
wooed by the Lord, it never fails. We may find ourselves
just like the Israelites in fickle worship for our King,
but we also find His promise that we are His daughters
because Jesus bridged the gap from our sin and covered
it with perfect love.

There's a lot of new faces around here so I thought I'd introduce myself. Hi! I'm Krista Dunbar and I'm the gal behind Míla Mag! To share a bit about me...I'm 29 years old and currently live in Noblesville, IN with my sweet husband of five years and our three-year-old doodle, Moses. (You can meet him over at my personal profile: @krista_dunbar) Our favorite things include spending time with one another, going on hikes or long walks with the pup, and encouraging the socks off our friends through fun hangs.
We love people. My sweet hubs is a peacemaker and a pastor-hearted connector. I'm a super awkward, deep-convo loving, encourager. I love making people feel heard, important, and honestly-love making them laugh.
I started Míla Magazine after a dream birthed in high school to debut the next Vogue-esque magazine. Slowly but surely over the years, God grabbed ahold of my heart and life and showed me what his plan was for me...to speak up for others through the written word. To gather and share stories for the purpose of speaking the words "me too" to hearts around the world.
In each issue, I am blessed to curate writers from all over the country and steward their words into your hearts and homes. Each issue is a group effort filled to the brim with content that is encouraging and not disheartening. We just launched the final issue of 2017 a few weeks ago. I hope you'll go take a look and maybe gift one to a friend!

I'm so thankful that we are on this side of His promise. That we can find freedom and joy and abundance because we've been given LIFE.

"The word “calling” often denotes an action, a doing, or a physical movement in our gifts and talents. Yes, that is our calling because our God is not stagnant yet always moving. But in my time of God-directed rest in my work, a deeper understanding formed in my soul. What if I’m called to LIVE and not just do? Within that season of resting and searching, the Lord invited me into His presence to soak in identity on His terms." Read more about how to live loved in ISSUE 004!

Within that season of resting and searching, the Lord invited me into His presence to soak in identity on His terms." Read more about how to live loved in ISSUE 004!
Tomorrow begins the celebration of Advent, celebration of our Lord— Let’s focus on being intentional as we set our hearts and minds on Jesus above all else. He is coming, and we get to declare simplicity during this season in His name. Let us seek holiness, and glorify His Kingdom.
.

There are so many wonderful Advent studies, and traditions that will begin tomorrow, and I want to encourage you to participate in something— even if it is one small thing, daily that will direct you to the Savior. Let us celebrate His glory, and exemplify His love to everyone around us. .

The very last Busy Barnyard Farm travel toy. There are a few more of the smaller size, but this is the last large size.
.
When I first bought these bolts of fabric, I was so nervous and hopeful. What if no one bought the toys? So few other people make the kind of travel toys that I'm making.... what if there's no market for them? I told myself then that when I sold out of entire bolts of fabric, I'd know that this business can really make it. I'd know that people WANT the kinds of open ended toys that I love to make. And now it's happening. And I am so incredibly grateful and humbled and still hopeful.
.
In a lot of ways, I still feel like that 12 year old girl learning how to use her mother's sewing machine. I'm pinching myself this morning as I box up toy after toy after toy.
.
Last day for made to order toys is December 2nd. After that it'll be ready to ship only until the 15th. After that I'm gonna collapse in a very thankful heap. 😘
.
If you're in business for yourself, what was your milestone that you set as a "when this happens, I'll really know"?

“Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on [a]so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own.” Phil 3:12
.

Paul reminds us here that we are not there yet, and that is His way of the continual work He is doing in us. This back and forth parallels that He continues to make us new and whole again, and our need for Him— and it keeps repeating over and over again. We can be ok where we are at this exact moment because He is at work— having our eyes set on eternity, Him as our gift. He has taken hold of the perfection so that we no longer have to. We are made as His own, that is powerful truth friends. .

Are we seeking Him so that we are deeper rooted in Him? Are we setting our eyes above so that we no longer need to feel the barriers of our enemy? What do we need to shift or consider so that we no longer feel like we have to “be there”, that it is ok that we are not there yet? 📸 @jensane

As promised, we are going to highlight some of the #mílatribe over this next week. Anna has written in a few issues this year, but her most recent article, "Pursuing Freedom in Christ Through Simple, Slow, Minimalist Living" is outstanding...don't worry, we aren't biased or anything. Anna's heartbeat is for sharing how ridding our homes and hearts of clutter and creating space for Christ is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our families. "We’ve all been blessed with this one life, and as cliché as it sounds, it’s incredibly short. So isn’t it time we started creating some space to enjoy it?" You can read her article in Issue 4! Go pick up a copy at milamag.com!

In Matthew 24, Jesus is telling His disciples about the end times...about how persecution will come and about how no one will know when He will return. While so much of this is wrapped in sorrow for the disciples, Jesus means it for hope. Yes, life is hard. Yes, persecution will come. Yes there will be false teachers...but Jesus is saying all of this in love, for our sake so we might run this race with steadfastness and a holy focus on Him.
This verse says lawlessness will multiply in the end days and because of that, the love of many will grow cold. Friends, fight for love! Fight hard to keep your heart soft. Ask our Papa God to soften you at every turn so you can remember that love in His name is the game. ..."But the one who endures to the end will be saved. This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."
That's the hope we are enduring for! So this week, let your heart not grow cold with all of the things on your to-do list, all of the hurt and pain you see on the news, or the hardened opinions of others. Give your heart to Jesus and let him fill it with love!

This year, seeing Míla come to life has been a God-sized dream in action. It's been a lot of hard WORK. But the beauty that has been woven into each issue is evident through some incredible writers from all over the country tackling topics like foster care, adoption, stepping out in faith, identity, and more. The gift @krauterphotography has of capturing beauty is incredible. It's been amazing to see the power of creative collaboration over the last year...in honor of that, we are going to be highlighting some incredible writers over the next week that have collaborated with us in each issue.

We've also marked down all of our digital issues (with the exception of issue 004) to just $5 so you can easily pick up a copy for your #thanksgiving vacation! Link in profile!

How do we respond to the grace we have been given? This keeps coming to the surface as I sit and fill the well with His truths so that my thoughts, actions, and words filter thru only one channel, The channel. When the fears, doubts, and lies can easily sweep in— what will I do with the grace that was already given? Try this for me will you? Sit on this thought the next time you have an encounter with someone, the next time you look at yourself in the mirror, the next time you speak to your spouse or your child— the impact of this grace will speak to you. Let Him be our filter in your life, your home, your ministry, your business, your daily life. That grace will take all the pressure off of you! [ps. Thank you for taking part in all the questions on my stories today! I am so appreciative of you! If you didn’t have a chance to yet, they are still up.] 📸 @brynlinphotography

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.” James 1:5 MSG
.
Are we seeking Him for help in all things? Do we wonder if maybe we have drifter farther than we should have and how it would look like as we are pulled in closer? Are be being BOLD with Him and thru Him? What does it look like when we don’t have to think twice, when we can stand so firm into His truths? Most importantly, are we creating time and space to hide in God? .
I encourage you as you are starting your week to journal some of these answers that come to mind. Something I have spent a lot of time doing these last few years was writing down all kinds of questions, and journaling the answers— having a conversation with Him. I would love to talk thru some of your answers! Happy Monday sweet friends! 📸 @twigyposts

"Just enough, is enough." I keep going back to these words my lovely friend @elise_poeana said as we were catching up and talking about all things life- not the least of which was gratitude and faith and believing to be grateful for enough.

I'm a pretty proud black coffee drinker, but sometimes I have to laugh at myself when I decide to be a little extra and order a "spicy-dirty-chai with an extra shot of espresso and oat milk" 😂#hipster 🙋🏽, but maybe it's time to try something new.. What's your "extra" but perfect coffee order?! (I'm looking at you @jrose217!)

"Overwork is the new normal" and in NYC if you're not overworked, over socially committed, over paying for rent, and flat out overwhelmed... well what are you even doing with your life?!.. but you know what, I don't agree with that. Not only has my creativity improved with rest, my ability to work through the busier times has improved! Deliberate rest, however that looks like for you (for me it looks like being active!), is a part of self care 💛

Inspired by a super talented friend, best life live-er, writer, and illustrator @kyliexann (her Eiffel Tower 😍). Who else is hiding a million talents under their sleeve?? You don't have to be one thing- I'm not just a photographer and you're not just a painter/runner/snowboarder/insert-thing-here. We're multifaceted people that grow, explore, and change! That's a good thing. You'll always be more than your talents, but even your talents can't be contained.

It's Fall Y'all!! Throwing some leaves cuz it's Saturday 🍁🍂!
Its November 1st and one of my favorite times of year! This November is extra special because my birthday is on Thanksgiving and I see Gods hand in this, actually waiving His hand at this for me, for so many reasons— Over the last few years the idea of gratefulness has had an even greater impact on me than years prior. In the midst of time spent in the wilderness, waiting, fear, and sadness— He showed me that He is always with me. A gratitude stemmed from within that is almost hard to put into words many times. My view on these imperfect times opened up my world to see His glory with a deep appreciation for ALL circumstances and situations I have encountered. He throws nothing to waste, and honestly looking back I would go through them over and over again because His gracious spirit reminds me so much that He is present and is the only perfection. So this November I am joining @rachkincaid to purposefully #getaftergrateful for the abundant life we are given thru Him.
.
WHO are we thanking this month, HOW does it move our lives? Will you join me in declaring praise to Him in all the things? Lift up those hands!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
.
I am getting after grateful, I am grateful for the cool crisp morning air, the glorious sunsets in Colorado, and God’s imperfect purpose in my life.

💛 I got up at 4:30 AM this day and questioned if I really wanted to go out, hike, and see the sunrise (I mean, my bed was so comfortable). When I got to the canyon, I ran around like a maniac chasing the most amazing morning light and almost cried it was so beautiful! #getupanddoit #itsworthit

@mrs_a_king5914 has been married to her 3rd grade sweetheart for over 3 years! She's been a nanny for the same family for 7 years (and counting). "I don't take my influence in their lives lightly at all! I strive to live a life grounded in Christ that they can look up to and learn from." •
Being a Woman of Valor means being present and intentional with your tribe. Tribes look different for different people. Some tribes are made up of a momma and her kiddos; some are made up of your life group at church. Others are are made up of just you and your husband and amazing team you make up. While still others are your 6 best friends from college, or even your nanny family! Are you only allowed to have just one tribe? No? Oh, good! Because I have about 4 and they all look a little different. They all make my heart explode and give more joy than I can even put into words. They teach me about God's goodness and Grace on a daily basis. •
Come to find out, there's a whole lot about being an adult that requires bravery. Thankfully, the Creator of the Universe is on our side; He's rooting us on and gives us far more strength than we could even imagine. God has been teaching me a lot about choosing things in my life that require true Faith–not just the easy things I think I can do on my own. And I'm finding that takes a lot of bravery to intentionally choose to strengthen my dependency on Christ–even when it's something really hard. •
As women, we wear so many different hats; so many things in life are pulling us in every direction. The more we tether ourselves to Christ, the more we can venture out and pour into the lives around us knowing we can always come back to be filled up again. The closer our relationship with Christ, the more confident we can be that He will always catch us at the end of the day when we've given all we can give... and He will fill us back up with the strength and love and encouragement we need for tomorrow.

It must have been lonely on the ark.
.
No one else in the entire world. Anywhere.
.
Last night I felt that way and posted a semi desperate plea for understanding and solidarity. And oh my goodness, the response and encouragement has been amazing. (A humbled thank you to the dear friends who reached out).
.
But I still feel adrift. Like that ark floating in an expanse of never ending ocean.... when will the rain stop? When will I find dry land? And there's a good reason for that tossed by the waves feeling. Instead of taking a step back and asking God for comfort and direction, I was looking for it here. And in Facebook groups. And in coaching courses. Confession time: I've been trusting in the wisdom of other people, looking for answers to their success hoping it will give me direction for my own. (Ouch. Confessions hurt).
.
But God tells us that only when we stop trying to live out everyone else's purpose will we find our own. Like parts of the body.
.
"Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows." -Ephesians 4:14-16
.
I've been trying to grow on my own, then wondering why it doesn't feel right. The truth is there's no amount of personal development and positive thinking that will take away the role of Christ in my life. No guru that can give me a more clear direction than the narrow path God has set before me. No blogger that will give me more insight than the Word of God.
.
Funny thing, it all comes down to doubting my own enoughness. Am I good enough, smart enough, resourceful enough, creative enough, mindful enough? And the answer to all of those is this: I was MADE more than enough. It has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the One who made me.
.
Does that ease the burden for you as much as it does for me? We don't have to go it alone, dear friends.
.

(Ouch. Confessions hurt). . I struggled with this TERRIBLY but being sick has forced me to take the backseat in many things that I used to define myself with.
Thankfully being sick has also made me realize that my success is measured by my obedience to God.
Still struggling with this some days, in some areas but I’ve realized the power of obedience and how critical it is in my self-esteem, so I think that the battle is partly won.

I absolutely love this quote from Heather Holleman’s recent bible study, Included in Christ. She’s reacting to Ephesians 1:11-12 which says, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.”
•
With these words she’s trying to help us understand what it means to “…be to the praise of his glory.”
•
Her words have been echoing in my heart and mind since I first read them. And they are fueling me for the first ever Devoted Dreamers Retreat coming up in just a few weeks.
•
+ May we retreat for the praise of His glory. + May we rest for the praise of His glory. + May we love one another for the praise of His glory. + May we learn for the praise of His glory. + May God change our hearts to be more like His for the praise of His glory. + May we fight back fear for the praise of His glory.
+ May we pursue the dreams He’s put on our hearts…all for the praise of His glory.
•
Sweet Devoted Dreamer, whether or not you will be with us in a few weeks, this is my prayer for you. That everything you do would bear witness to His greatness (and that YOU, of all people, would see Him working) for your good and for the praise of His glory.

Monday morning question to consider: where is God asking you to obey?
Not to obey partially. Excitedly beginning something He’s pressed on your heart only to finish it your own way, or on your schedule. Not obedience that is hesitant, reluctant, or the result of an ultimatum. But obedience as act of the heart. Of will. An act of surrender. Humility. Worship
.
Obeying His voice with the same level of commitment to the one enormous responsibility, as to the five smaller tasks that may seem mundane or trite. No matter what He’s asked
.
Without excuses about how our ideas are certainly better than His. Without questions and complaints about why the path He has us on can’t look like someone else’s. No whining. Not trying to go-around-Him. Just total obedience
.
What would that look like for you?

This is what we're talking about at our events this month, and we'd love you to be part of the conversation. What does your relationship with social media look like?

Is it a good one that leaves you feeling uplifted?
Is it a two way relationship with give and take?
Or does it seem to be all one sided, leaving you feeling a little empty?

Or something completely different?
We'd love to hear your thoughts? . . .

God desires each of us to be in the game. He yearns to have personal encounters with each of us. Surround yourself with people whom you can learn from and be discipled by, but may we never let the game end without even breaking a sweat. Now is the time for you to rise up. The whistle has blown, and it’s time for you to get in the game. Use what you have learned from others to begin your own faith journey and enjoy the excitement of experiencing God first hand. Never forget to share your experience with those around you, for in due time, your passion may be what leads someone else to their own encounter with the Creator.

It feels a little bit like the world is falling apart. So many hard and hurtful things happening and I find myself with white knuckles trying to hold it all together. . . .
But I can’t. I can’t do it. I can’t make hurricanes, earthquakes, or violence stop. I can’t stop our dog from dying or even stop the dang dishwasher from breaking down. . . .
Here’s what I can do: Serve my kids dinner, kiss my husband, laugh with my friends. Apologize when I’m wrong. Serve a warm beverage to a hurting heart. . . .
If you’re like me and your heart is hurting for all the things you can’t hold together, hold people. Hold friends, loved ones, and strangers. . . .
This is how we change the world. We love God and we love our neighbors.

🍁 It started last year, probably around this time actually. I don't know why it seems the fall brings with it challenges (good, stretching ones) for me- and our family. But the past couple seasons it has. It's wonderful! I wrote about what kind of heart works been happening as well as what else has been happening; a start to a series called Maximizing the Minimalist. Read and follow along because My hope is we can help each other embrace our lives in a more meaningful and purposeful way; a way that goes beyond just the stuff in our lives but changes and challenges us in other ways too ❤️ [ Blog post link in Profile ] #beritaurorajean #finleyjoybabe maximizingtheminimalist #minimalist #notostuff #reorganize #organize #gracenotperfection #obedienceoverhustle #presenceoverperfect #create #inspire #share #newthings

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." The Lord is near!

This moment right here... oh man, walking my little love to kindergarten has quickly become one of my most favorite times of the day. It feels special because it is a moment with just her and I and that seems like a rarity these days. I hold her little hand in mine the whole way there and she holds mine just as firmly. As we get closer to her classroom I give her hand little squeezes that say "I love you" and sure enough I feel them in return. Before I leave her I kiss her sweet cheek and whisper in her ear "I love you so much and will be praying for you today! Have fun my love!" She smiles at me and says "I love you too." and off she goes.
.
I think this is similar to how it is when we have our one on one time with God. He is our proud Father holding our hand and guiding us in our time with Him. He gives us little hand squeezes that say "I love you" and it is so blatantly felt that we can't help but squeeze His hand back. We get filled up by with His love, His peace and feel inspired with His wisdom. As we close our one on one time together He kisses our cheek and says "I have loved our time together. I treasure you my daughter and I never want you to forget how much I love you! Don't worry, I will always be with you every second of every day!" .

His Love is so amazing and makes us feel so uplifted and gives us wings to fly! May we continue to have those sweet and special one on one moments with God! They are everything!

I find it too easy to hold back. To hold back in ministry, in friendship, in heart and in life... simply because I don’t feel full enough. I think, “When I’m stronger/better/happier/more faith filled/more loving/more servant-like I’ll do x, y and z. I hold back and hold off and hide away because I don’t feel enough to do what I’m called to. I tell Jesus, “Not today. I’m not ready.” And you know what He says? “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and if the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.” 1 Timothy 4:6
It says that AS you do the work, you will be nourished. Not before.
So here is to jumping in feet first and doing the things God’s called us to do, no matter how inadequate we feel. Because after all, He equips the called, He doesn’t call the equipped.

Those lips, them eyes... that hair and those blushed baby cheeks! 💕 Quickly my babe is Turning into a little lady. She challenges me in so many ways - my selfishness and sinfulness is all the more exposed. Today I was reminded how important self control is. (Proverbs 25:28) all last week I allowed my emotions to play out when I should have used more *self control. As I've been reflecting on last week and this verse helped bring to light self control is spirit lead not emotionally led. *sighs. Boy do I have a long way to go ☺️ So thankful for the truth of the word. The refining process. Painful, beautiful. Oh that I pray my little babes find their Savior. Responding in guilt means I isolate myself and hide in shame. The other option is grace. Grace reminds me that God is up to something I can’t quite see. It’s the overflowing well that drowns out the lies of defeat. I can have confidence because of what has been given to me through Jesus. When I choose to live in grace instead of guilt, I remember that there’s more to life than performing perfectly.

Highlighting this beautiful woman again this week because she turned 30! 💓
•
Britney Dunbar is a woman of beauty, kindness, passion, and love. She loves so fiercely and has beauty and wit pouring out of her like a waterfall. We're so glad to share her heart with you:
•
Being a woman of valor means you are bold and courageous in times of trouble or even just the days you walk in this life. I believe it is knowing I have God behind me so that I may speak up for those who can not speak for themselves and sometimes speak out for myself as well. •
I don’t know if I am living a brave story everyday, but I sure am trying. For me, living a brave story means not giving up on this hopeless world and loving others so deeply it hurts. I think it’s hard for people to love deeply–especially these days. I think the best thing we can do for others-love our neighbors, someone we don’t agree with. The best support you can show someone is to be there for them regardless of how they live. We were called to love like Jesus loved. •
I encourage others to live a brave story by simply professing how love can create peace rather than spreading hate. You can not get anywhere in this life if you are full of hate, you will simply close people off to who you are and who God is. If you carry love in your heart you can be free. A wise man once said, “Hate is too great of a burden to bare.”-MLK
Life is too short to live it being angry or always disagreeing with someone for how they think differently than you. Hear people, hear their stories and you will find their soul. #sheisvalor

I used to let comparison rob me of my joy— even in the midst of personal success. It used to define whether my efforts were worthy. It caused an anxious mentality of striving, and I neglected the tasks that God had called me to do, out of a desire to do #allthethings, and of course, do them well. I forgot that He had uniquely created me with specific giftings, coupled with a purpose that was unlike anyone else, and to compare what He had placed in my hands, with what others had was to tell Him that He had messed up
.
But no more. We all have a place at the table, a job to do, a race to run, and we are far more effective (and joyful) when we stop letting comparison steal, kill, and destroy what we’ve put our hand to and what He created us for

I forgot that He had uniquely created me with specific giftings, coupled with a purpose that was unlike anyone else, and to compare what He had placed in my hands, with what others had was to tell Him that He had messed up . But no more. We all have a place at the table, a job to do, a race to run, and we are far more effective (and joyful) when we stop letting comparison steal, kill, and destroy what we’ve put our hand to and what He created us for #obedienceoverhustle  📷 @jenessawait
What if we spent less time building our kingdoms here on earth and more time investing in His Kingdom. I often hear Christians justify their pursuit of money with “when we have more then we can give more.” We hustle and strive taking on extra jobs or working longer hours… and in the midst of the striving I can’t help but think of all of the opportunities that are missed to abide, trust, and be obedient with what we already have in front of us. I’m tempted with the shiny allure of abundance on the daily. The notion that if we just had a little more, we could give more freely. But, if we look deeper at these words we see an issue with the heart and honestly a wrong view of God. He doesn’t call us to give out of abundance. No, He calls us to faithfully steward what we have already been given. Whether He’s given us just “enough”, or more than enough. The God of the universe doesn’t need our abundance… He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He simply wants our obedience. He desires to be our hearts affection. Not more money in our savings, or that next vacation, or whatever it might be that we (I) am constantly distracted by. Oh how saddened His heart must be when we put our time and affections in all the wrong places.

With all my heart, I want to protect my daughter from rejection of all types. We've all experienced the sting of that feeling- whether it's a friend or stranger. I've struggled with the fear of rejection for as long as I've been around people that could reject me. I've seen potential situations and imagined terrible scenarios. And when someone says something sharply or doesn't use the right emoji(God forbid we don't use emojis) then I feel rejected. Never mind that person might be having a terrible day that has nothing to do with me. Or maybe they just don't use emojis 😱. God is pulling me out of this shell and showing me that He has never rejected me, and that is all I need. I lose myself in fear and in what other people think of me, but all I really need is to know Him and His love for me. After all, the scripture is "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?" That is me. I don't want to gain the world. I could have absolutely no one left, as long as I have Jesus. He is enough. He is always welcoming, no matter my filth or sin. He always forgives and always has grace. And I am no longer living in fear of what others think of me, because His opinion is the only one that matters. As long as I'm seeking His righteousness, His will and His glory, I don't have to worry. .

I can remember the morning we met over coffee @themusecoffeeco and we talked about how collaboration was what this world needed. We are seeing a time where so many are hurting, have lost their homes from natural disasters and are more concerned with their own needs! • 👉🏼Fast forward two months and it's been a joy to share life, share memories, create ideas, create events and to show the world what supporting one another looks like! 💕
👉🏼Did you know that this weekend you can come support @letstalkfashionva and enjoy a fabulous Haute Couture Runway event held @craddockterryhotel on Saturday 8PM and see the talented fashion designers showcase this season's bests! I get to be the host of this show so please come see me! 💕 📸@GregoryBernard_

"Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him?...I'm not referring to works which could be considered divine and miraculous, but Ordinary, Simple, Human things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him. -Oswald Chambers (Emphasis mine.😁)

"God, teach me to take delight in the little things. Help me to see the small and insignificant as divinely created-- with a purpose. May I choose the pause, the interruption, the mess, over being productive, responsible, or successful."
.
Prayers I whisper. Inspired by the lives of my children. Hitting re-set on this Wednesday morning. Feel free to do the same if you need to 😉

I have always found this verse to be so comforting. When I truly believe that He goes before me...what do I have to fear? •
Praying anything can be intimidating and full of unknowns and fear...but God knows what lies ahead of us...and He's already there!

"When you’ve done everything expected of you... say, ‘The work is done. What we were told to do, we did.’” - Luke‬ ‭17:10‬ ‭MSG‬‬
.
I read this great quote several months ago by Christa Hutchins via @gritandvirtue : "If you don’t have time to do the things God has called you to do, you are doing things he didn’t intend for you to do. It’s time to examine our schedule and decide what doesn’t belong there.” I couldn't agree more! So many of us are exhausting ourselves in an effort to do what everyone else is doing (but better, faster and bigger), instead of digging in to the unique and specific things that God has asked us to do
.
So... What is it that have you been told to do? Love your spouse? Start a business? Pay off your debt? Serve the homeless? Give away some money? Quit your day job? Adopt a child? Care for your children or aging parents? Start a non-profit? Stay at your job? Go back to school? Support your leaders well? Stop complaining about your local church and actually get involved? Get to know your neighbor?
.
When it is all over friends, will we be able to say, "what we were told to do, we did"? That's my goal, and I hope it's yours also 👊🏼

Fear is a funny thing. Once you acknowledge it, you can begin to take the steps to conquering it. Especially when we give it to Christ. Last night, my husband asked me..."If you could do anything knowing that you wouldn't fail...what would you do?" •
I would love to hear YOUR answers to this question. If fear is holding you back, acknowledge it and move forward knowing that you are MORE than a conquerer through Christ.

"My freedom came because of Jesus. He truly fought my battle. It was in His strength and in His power, and not my own. I began looking to the Word and filling my mind with His Truth–which truly sets you free. He overcame every fear and slowly erased the lies that I had believed over the years. He began to build me back up again upon His Truths, slowly reminding me who I was in Him. "
•
I think one of the best compliments you could receive is one that highlights more of Jesus in you. "You are strong." "You are resilient." These compliments are so sweet because we all know how messy we are, how weak we can be. But through the Spirit, through faith in God, and the grace that Jesus died to give us, we can walk boldly and confidently...no matter our circumstances. Being strong doesn't mean you don't struggle or have grief. It means you keep going despite those things. •
What areas are you being set free in? In what areas do you see Jesus working?

Remember my post a few squares back about #obedienceoverhustle ? How I was trying so hard to do it myself and pay off our school loans by my own power? My husband just texted me and said we received an anonymous donation of over 2000 dollars specifically for our loans. We have a matching scholarship through our denomination that I had been striving so hard to meet, and this year God met it all. Now we are less than 1000 away from meeting the matching cap. YOU GUYS! I stepped back into my rightful place and God has blown my mind. I hustled for a year and stressed and worried and wore our family thin, but this year taking that step of faith which has been more like a stop of faith has revealed more fruit that I could ever do on my own.
All of this excitingly ( is that a word?) typed out to share a testimony to obedience. Obedience in some manners (like finances) is not a cut and dry issue, the across the board answer is always listen to his voice, and trust him. He's got you. He really does. .
.

{also, in case anyone missed it, we need to pay off our school debt before we are released to be international workers, so there is the importance of that}

Meet Jaime:
I am a mama to four school-aged children and involved with a couple of local not-for-profits. I love camping and if my husband asked, I'd sell my house and travel in our camper.
•
{On Being A Woman of VALOR}- It means being a woman who is not afraid of the future. Someone that stands up for what she believes in, but in a way that shows love to all of those around her.
•
{On Living Brave}-Parenting is scary. Everyday it is a choice to trust that the Lord is in control. That He knows better than I do. And that I am His daughter.
•
{On Encouraging Others To Do The Same}-Before my kids leave for school, I tell them to "love Jesus...be the kindest and the bravest." And I pray that for them as well. Last week, just minutes after telling my daughter this, she had the chance to be brave...to stand up to a boy on the bus that was threatening her and the other children with a weapon. And she did. She was brave. And also, she was still kind and forgiving. We have so much to learn from these young, brave souls that are growing up in this world.
