Dirt clod drawing in the driveway
The different sizes, shapes and textures of dirt clods are awesome for fine motor and strengthening those muscles needed for a good pencil grip. Drawing pictures, patterns, letters, whatever!
FULL DISCLOSURE - I did nothing to set this up, by the way. I didn't even deliberately take the kids outside - they followed me when I went to put stuff in the bin. 😆
Today Occupational therapist Michelle van Rooyen is at the clinic again. We are so pleased that Michelle joined us to help with movement issues and developmental difficulties. She is also a handwriting tutor. So many children need postural support at school and she came so highly recommended people wrote to me and asked me to meet her. She was an instant fit at our clinic! The support she gives families at home and in school is invaluable. To find out more about Michelle call our friendly reception team on 01483-527945. #occupationaltherapy , #handwriting , #handwritingtutor , #hypermobility , #hypermobilechildren , #surrey , #godalming , #milford , #delayeddevelopment
Off to the cold ❄️🛫 And in a nutshell... why I love traveling.
Flight in recap: (bear with me till the end 😂) On Southwest, you pick any seat so my goofy self jokes, "This seat taken?" by an older gentleman and he kinda just looks at me... okay soo I guess we can't be friends lol
10 minutes later... "You speak Spanish?"
Turns out the guy didn't really speak a lick of English!
1 hr of talking broken Spanglish (thank you for 6 years of class, Señora barrett), gestures (bc somehow that helps me speak Spanish 😂) , and a half broken translation AP later... Find out he just moved to Tampa from Puerto Rico where his sons still live, thankfully unharmed from the hurricane. But turns out when I explained that I'm a pediatric occupational therapist, he goes on to explain that his son has autism &had OT growing up. Now 17 yrs old is a beautiful artist about to graduate 😭😍 Don't let everyday life stop ya from making connections... not even language barriers ❤️🌎
Here we worked on counting by 5 and counting to 30 - hand muscle strengthening by pushing the coin in the piggy bank, working on the muscle of the hands is great pre writing skills, often time I see Annabella switching back and forth from mature grip to whole hand when she holds a pen- it’s because her muscle fatigue and she goes for whatever is easier, instead of me telling her 100 times to hold the pen properly I prefer to strength the muscle in her hand and have her own her own stick to the mature grip since she knows how to do it. This was really fun, it was hard at times to push the coin in, but they did it and cheered each other on.
It’s been an INCREDIBLE SERIES with these inspiring OTs this week! All the replays are available on FB to view. Tell me what your favorite moment was from the broadcasts. ( mine was the tech snafoos! Because it heightens our resilience when we are faced with discomfort and uncertainty and just embrace it). I also loved how connected we all are; we just have to continue to reach out and tap into that
To complete this task, the client needs to use thumb and index finger to pinch the fish, and observe the gap. In this video, the client fails to manipulate the fish and observe the gap because of poor pinch skill: pinch the fish firmly, poor manipulation: adjust the fish to the gap immediately, poor spatial relations: acknowledge relationship between either fingers and the fish or the fish and the gap, poor visual-perception: discriminate the gap from the mats, and poor cognition: use strategy to solve problems. #occupationaltherapy#finemotor#cognition#pediactrics#visualperception#spatialrelation#pinch#manipulation#earlylearning#職能治療#精細動作#空間概念#視知覺#抓握#手指操弄#早療

Things in this time lapse I had to relearn in the past 365 days: How to stand. • Walking. • Putting my hair in a ponytail. • Doing a right handed 👍🏼. • Lunging. • Picking anything up right handed. • Planks. • Smiling. • Work ethic. #physicaltherapy#occupationaltherapy#alwaysimproving
